The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   002:221

 

  فِى الدُّنۡيَا وَالۡاٰخِرَةِؕ وَيَسۡـــَٔلُوۡنَكَ عَنِ الۡيَتٰمٰىؕ قُلۡ اِصۡلَاحٌ لَّهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ ؕ وَاِنۡ تُخَالِطُوۡهُمۡ فَاِخۡوَانُكُمۡ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يَعۡلَمُ الۡمُفۡسِدَ مِنَ الۡمُصۡلِحِ‌ؕ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ لَاَعۡنَتَكُمۡؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَزِيۡزٌ حَكِيۡمٌ‏


Fee  id-doon-yaa  wa  ul-aa-khay-ra-taay
Wa  yaus-aa-loo-na  ka  aa-nay  il-ya-taa-maa
Qool  iss-laa-hoon  la  hoom  khai-roon
Wa  in  to-khaa-lay-to  hoom  fa  ikh-waa-no  koom
Wa  ul-laa-ho  yau-la-mo  ol-moof-say-da  may-na  ul-moos-lay-hay
Wa  lao  shaa  ul-laa-ho  la  au-na-ta  koom
In-na  ul-laa-ha  aa-zee-zoon  ha-kee-m   

 

In the life Here and the Hereafter.                                                                                    And they ask you about the orphans.                                                                                You say, “Correction is best for them.
And if you fraternize with them, then remember they are your brethren.”
And Allah knows distinguishing the Corrupt from the Corrector.
And if Allah chose He definitely would have afflicted you.                                          Most certainly Allah is the Mightiest, the Wisest.

 

Continuing from the previous verse “Like this Allah makes clear to you … 

  • فِىۡ — Fee … (id) — In (= Among. Inside a person or place. See Note 002:028)
  • ٱلدُّنۡيا — Doon-yaa — Present life (= n., Close at hand. Hither, the opposite of the Hereafter. Life here on earth. Life in the near world, of short term. The near one. The present life. The World at hand, of worldly benefits, happiness and pleasures)
  • وَ —  Wa … ( ul) — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally)
  • ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ — Aa-khay-ra-tay — The Hereafter (= n., Life in the Hereafter. Next life coming ahead, in the future, after physical death here in this world. Joined with the word اَلۡيَوۡمَ the meanings are narrowed down to only the Judgment Day or Resurrection. Otherwise the word means anything yet to come such as a later event, succeeding hour, subsequent occurrence, etc.)
  • وَ — Wa  — And (= Conj., It links words, Additionally. See وَ  above)
  • يَسۡـَٔلُونَ — Yaus-aa-loo-na — The ask (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Ask; beg; demand; inquire; interrogate; question; request; seek info –  )
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person.   You single male.   The addressee  of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being.  See the Note under 002:005)
  • عَنِ — Aa-nay … (il) — About (= Concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • ٱلۡيَتَـٰمَى  — Ya-ta-maa — The orphans (= n., pl., Kids with no parent; Children without one or both parents. Generally refers to the helpless children who are destitute)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — You say (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Announce; answer; broadcast; convey; declare; explain; inform expound; inform; reply; specify; state; tell. See Commentary ‘You Say’…. means)
  • إِصۡلَاحٌ۬ — Iss-laa-hoon — Correction (= n., Correction. Doing the best, good and right. Help in growing. Improvement. Making better, equitable and fair. Reformation. In the instant context relative to the orphans, correctly, diligently, equitably, fairly, justly, honestly, properly and rightly promoting, protecting, safeguarding and setting right all their affairs, assets, interests, property and welfare)
  •  لَّ — La — For (= For the benefit, object, purpose or reason; with intent to)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= Pronoun referring to ‘all those men, masculine gender)
  • خَيۡرٌ  — Khai-roon — Best (= adj., Apex. Best. Excellent. Good. Meritorious. Noble. Peak. Superior. Tops. Virtuous. Also of comparatively better, greater, higher, more or preferable value)
  • وَ — Wa — But (= Conj., It links words, Additionally. See وَ  above)
  • اِنۡ — In — If — (= If the situation arises; in case; under the circumstances)
  • تُخَالِطُو — To-kha-lay-to —  You fraternize (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Associate; consort; develop relations; hobnob; interact; intermix; socialize. Also, mingle affairs, assets and property of the orphans with yours by living together)
  • ھُمۡ‌ —  Hoom — Them  (= Refers to orphans’ affairs)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; resultantly; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • إِخۡوَٲنُ — Ikh-waa-no — Brethren (= n., pl., Those in the extended family of a community who are like brothers and sisters)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • يَعۡلَمُ — Yau-la-mo … ( ol) — Knows (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Has the information; is aware of)
  • ٱلۡمُفۡسِدَ — Moof-say-da — The Corrupt    (= n., s., Bad, corrupt or evil creator, developer or spreader of disorder or evil. Disrupter; Dissidents. Evil or doer of evil. Law breaker. Mischief-monger. Mischievous. Miscreant. Violator of law and order. Spoiler. Unfair. Unjust. Wicked. One adding to, causing, committing, creating or multiplying corruption, disorder and evil. . A/t/a, who deteriorate dwindles, diminishes and dissipates orphans’ assets fast)
  • مِنَ — May-na … (ul) — From (= Apart or distinguished from; from among the class, category or count of; out of)
  • ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِ‌ — Moos-la-hay — Corrector (= n., s., A good person. One who is fair, honest, just and truthful. One who means to do and does the good. One who improves pre-existing conditions. Peace-maker. Reformer. Right-doer, the antonym for a wrongdoer.  A/t/a, one who preserves orphans’ assets) A/t/a, one who preserves orphans’ assets)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, Additionally. See وَ  above)
  • لَوۡ — Lao — If (= If the situation arises; in case; under the circumstances)
  • شَآءَ — Shaa-a … (ul) — He chose (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Allowed; approved; chose;  decided; decreed; designed; determined; dictated; elected; enforced; liked; permitted; planned; pleased; preferred; selected; sanctioned; willed. The meanings ‘desired, wanted or wished’ do not apply relative to the Almighty God Who has all control, power and will to implement instantly what He intends)
  • اللّٰهُ — Al-laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • لَ — La — Definitely (= Absolutely; certainly; positively; surely; truly; verily
  • أَعۡنَتَ — Au-na-ta — Afflicted (= v., past., s., 1st person. Burdened. Distressed. Exposed to hardship. Harshly treated. Inflicted with extremely insurmountable difficulty. Inconvenienced. Made the matters worse. Put in difficulty. Overburdened. Taxed.  Tormented) 
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You men. See  کُمۡ  above)
  • اِنَّ — In-na … (ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • عَزِيۡزٌ — Azee-zoon — Mightiest (= adj., Superlative form indicates the greatest, the  highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is the Highest, Mightiest and Strongest. the Most Revered. The One Honored infinitely and timelessly. This one word includes the meanings of might with respect. A/t/a, The Eternal Defeater Who can’t be defeated. See Note 001:001)
  • حَکِيۡمٌ‏ — Ha-keem — Wisest (= adj., Superlative form indicates the greatest, the  highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Wise. The Judge of Judges. One Who is always correct in His decisions. A/t/a, All-Wise. Always Right  Extremely shrewd. Full of wisdom. See Note 001:001)
