ثُمَّ لَاَتِيَنَّهُمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَيۡنِ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ وَعَنۡ اَيۡمَانِهِمۡ وَعَنۡ شَمَآٮِٕلِهِمۡ‌ؕ وَلَاٰ تَجِدُ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ شٰكِرِيۡنَ

Thoom-ma  la  aa-tay-yun-na  hoom                                                                                          Min  bai-nay  aiy-dee  him  wa  min  khaul-fay  him                                                                      Wa  un  aiy-maa-nay  him  wa  un  sha-maa-aiy-lay  him                                                            Wa  laa  ta-jay-do  uk-tha-ra  hoom  shaa-kay-reee-n

 

Then I surely will come upon them                                                                                  From their front and from their behind,                                                                            And from their right and from their left.                                                                            And You won’t find most of them grateful.

  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • مِّنۡۢ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt. A/t/a, ‘from’)
  • اَيۡدِيۡ — Aiy-dee — Both hands (= n., 2pl., The part of human arm below the wrist and can consist of a thumb, fingers and a palm that can hold and manipulate certain motions. The word means assistance help, promotion, solidarity; strength or support. A/t/a, ‘afore,’ ‘before,’ ‘front’ and ‘in front of’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See   مِنۡ  above)
  • خَلۡفِ — Khaul-fay — Behind (= n., After; back; posterior; rear-end. A/t/a, ‘behind,’ ‘aft,’ ‘backs’ and ‘the rear’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • اَيۡمَان — Aiy-maa-nay — Right (= n., pl., The word refers to all that is on the right-hand  side, including what one owns, controls and possesses. A/t/a, ‘right hands’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)

  • تَجِدُ  — Ta-jay-do — You find (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Come upon; confront; discover;  experience; face; find; get; look at; observe; see. A/t/a, ‘wilt thou find,’ ‘Thou wilt … find,’ ‘Thou will … find,’ ‘You will … find’ and ‘You shall find’)
  • اَكۡثَرَ —  Uk-tha-ra — Most of (= n., Greater or large number; majority; many; mostly. A/t/a, ‘greater part of’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • شٰكِرِيۡنَ — Shaa-kay-ree-n — Grateful (= n., pl., Appreciative; glad; gratifying; thankful. A/t/a, ‘grateful,’ ‘thankful,’ ‘grateful (to you),’ ‘as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be   dutiful to You)’ and ‘beholden (unto Thee).’ But ‘not ungrateful’ and ‘Gratitude (for Thy mercies)’ are not accurate translations)
