The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   007:020

 

وَيٰۤاٰدَمُ اسۡكُنۡ اَنۡتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ الۡجَـنَّةَ فَـكُلَا مِنۡ حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا وَلَا تَقۡرَبَا هٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُوۡنَا مِنَ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ

         Verse 002:036 has the words  قُلۡنَا  and رَغدًا additionally, and  وَ  before كُلَا  instead of  فَ as in verse 007:020; otherwise the text in both these verses is identical.

 

Wa  yaa  aa-da-mo                                                                                                                                Os-koon  un-ta  wa  zao-jo  ka  ul-jun-na-ta                                                                                      Fa  ko-laa  min haa hai-tho  shay-to-maa                                                                                    Wa  laa  tauq-ra-baa  haa-zay-he  ish-sha-ja-ra-ta                                                                      Fa  ta-koo-naa  may-na  uz-zaa-lay-mee-n

 

And “Listen Adam!                                                                                                                      You and your wife live in Paradise.                                                                                  Then you both eat from there wherever you both like.                                                  And you both do not come close to this tree                                                                  For then you both would become among the wrongdoers.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but;                               additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon. A/t/a, ‘And (We said)’
  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; pay attention; O!. A/t/a, ‘O,’ ‘Allah said to’ and ‘unto man’)
  • ادَمُ — Aa-da-mo … (os) Adam (= Adam; the name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a, ‘to Adam He said’)
  • اسۡكُنۡ — Os-koon — You live (= Abide; become citizen of; dwell; reside; stay. A/t/a, ‘dwell’)
  • اَنۡتَ — Un-ta — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. Ref is to Adam. Combined the      words  اَنۡ  and  تَ   are best translated as ‘Surely you.’ See Note 002:128. A/t/a, ‘Thou’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words. See وَ  above. A/t//a, ‘with’)
  • زَوۡجُ — Zao-jo — Wife (= n., s., Mate; life-companion; spouse)
  • كَ — Ka … (ul) –You (= pro., s., m., addressee in 2nd person is Adam)
  • الۡجَـنَّةَ — Jun-naa-ta — The Paradise   (= n., pl., Big groves; gardens; orchards. A/t/a, ‘the Garden,’ ‘this garden’ ‘and Paradise’)
  • فَ  — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet)
  • كُلَا — Ko-laa  — You both eat (= You two consume, feast upon or partake. A/t/a, ‘eat and drink,’ ‘eat,’ ‘you may eat,’ ‘eat of any fruit’ and ‘enjoy its good things)’
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of a class, category, count, kind, or several persons or things)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Reference is to the Paradise. A/t/a, (for this and the prior word) ‘thereof’ and ‘therefrom’)
  • حَيۡثُ — Hai-tho — Wherever (= Anywhere. A/t/a. ‘wherever’ and ’whence’)
  • شِئۡتُمَا — Shae-to-maa — You both like (= v., pres., 2pl., 2nd person. You two choose, please, prefer, select, will, wish or feel pleasure and delight. A/t/a, ‘you desire,’ ‘you will,’ ye will,’ ‘you wish,’ ‘as ye wish,’ ‘as you both wish,’ ‘when and where you like’ and ‘you please’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words. See وَ  above. A/t//a, ‘but’)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • تَقۡرَبَا — Tauq-ra-baa — Come close to (= v., pres., 2pl., 2nd person. You two approach, come in proximity, get near or get in the vicinity of. A/t/a, ‘go …  near,’ ‘approach,’ ’(even) approach’ and ‘come … nigh’)
  • هٰذِهِ — Ha-zay-he … (ish) —  This (= This particularly pointed out; present right here; what is in front of you)
  • الشَّجَرَةَ — Sha-ja-ra-ta — Tree (= n., Vegetation with roots below and trunk above ground. Growth. A particular group of folks, nation, people, tribe or situation. In Adam/Eve story, the tree of evil)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; resultantly; so; thereafter; therefore; yet. A/t/a. ’lest,’  ‘or’ and ‘otherwise’)
  • تَكُوۡنَا — Ta-koo-naa — You both would become (= v., pres., 2pl., 2nd person. You two would become; you will turn into; it happens or occurs to you both. A/t/a, ’you become,’ ‘you be,’ ‘you both will become,’ ‘you will be,’ ‘you run into’ ‘you shall both become’)
  • مِنَ — May-na …. (uz) –Among (= Among, from. See مِنۡ above. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ‏ — Zaa-lay-mee-n — Wrongdoers (= n., pl., Doers of spiritual harm, hurt an injury; criminals; culprits; evil doers; transgressors; unjust; violators; wicked. A/t/a, ‘wrongdoers,’ ’wrong-doers,’ ‘the unjust,’ ‘evildoers,’ ‘transgressors’ and ‘ Zalimun (unjust and wrongdoers).’ But ‘harm and transgression’ is no translation of what the text of the Holy Qor-aan has stated)
