The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                 007:072

 

قَالَ قَدۡ وَقَعَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ رِجۡسٌ وَّغَضَبٌ‌ؕ اَتُجَادِلُوۡنَنِىۡ فِىۡۤ اَسۡمَآءٍ سَمَّيۡتُمُوۡهَاۤ اَنۡـتُمۡ وَاٰبَآؤُكُمۡ مَّا نَزَّلَ اللّٰهُ بِهَا مِنۡ سُلۡطٰنٍ‌ؕ فَانْتَظِرُوۡۤا اِنِّىۡ مَعَكُمۡ مِّنَ الۡمُنۡتَظِرِيۡنَ‏

 

Qaa-la  qaud  wa-qa-aa  aa-lai  koom
Min  raub-bay  koom  rij-soon  wa  gha-za-boon

Aa  to-jaa-day-loo-na  nee  fee  aus-sa-maa-in
Saum-mai-to-moo  haa  aun-toom  wa  aa-baa-o  koom
Maa  nauz-za-la  ul-laa-ho  bay  haa  min  sool-taa-nin

Fa  aun-ta-zay-roo  in-nee  ma-aa  koom
May-na  ul-moon-ta-zay-ree-n

 

He said, “Surely fell upon you
From your God is impiety and anger.

Do you argue with regarding names
Only you and your forefathers have named
With it Allah has not revealed any authority.

So you wait. Certainly I am with you
Among those who wait for the outcome.

 

  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; specified; told. See 002:031. A/t/a, ‘Hud said,’ ‘He replied’ and ‘He answered’)
  • قَدۡ — Qaud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis like very definitely; surely. See Note 004:049 and our Commentary titled the ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect.’ A/t/a, ‘have already,’ ‘indeed,’ ‘indeed there have already’ and ‘already’)
  • وَقَعَ — Wa-qa-aa — Fell (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Became a reality. Happened. Landed. Materialized. Occurred. Precipitated. Struck. Was found. A/t/a, ‘come,’ ‘befallen,’ ‘lighted up,’ ‘fallen,’ ‘have fallen,’ ‘has fallen’ and ‘visited’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai –Upon (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; you; upon)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. This way the Holy Qor-aan has addressed both men and women jointly)
  • مِّنۡ — Min … (ir) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • رَّبِّ — Raub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we  and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You men. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • رِجۡسٌ –Rij-soon –Impiety (= n., Bad. Dirty. Immoral. Impure. Irreligious. Irreverent. Sinful. Unclean. Ungodly. See Note 005:091. A/t/a, ‘punishment,’ ‘uncleanliness,’ ‘terror,’ ‘torment’ and ‘anger’)
  • وَّ‌ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • غَضَبٌ — Gha-za-boon — Anger (= n., Extremely unbearable situation. Fury. Wrath.  A/t/a, ‘displeasure’)
  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did, have; had, shell, should, will, would, what)
  • تُجَادِلُوۡنَ — To-jaa-day-loo-na — You argue (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Contend. Contest. Fight. Vain talk. Wangling. A/t/a, ‘dispute thee with,’ ‘dispute you with,’ ‘dispute with,’  ‘you contend with’ and ‘wrangle’)
  • نِىۡ — Nee — Me (= pro., s., m & f., 1st person. Me)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — Regarding (= Among. Inside a person or place. Concerning. In the matter of. Regarding. Relative to. See Note 002:028. A/t/a, ‘over’ and ‘about’)
  • اَسۡمَآءٍ — Aus-maa-in — Names (= n., pl., Means to address, call or name a person or  things. Appellation. Labels. Styles. Tags. Terms. Names of God’s attributes; designations, terms and ways to beseech, call, pray or supplicate to Him. A/t/a, ‘mere names (of your false gods)’
  • سَمَّيۡتُمُوۡ  — Saum-mai-to-moo — You named (= v., past., pl., 2nd person. Set up. Styled. Tagged.  Titled. A/t/a, ‘you … named,’ ‘ye have named,’ ‘ye have devised,’ ‘you … devised,’ you have coined’ and ‘have invented’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid group of names. A/t/a, ‘which’)
  • اَنۡـتُمۡ — Aun-toom — Only you (= pro., pl., 2nd person. This is a combination of  اَنۡ  (aun)  that means absolutely, clearly, really, surely, truly or verily and  تُمۡ  (toom) that is for the pronoun you. A/t/a, ‘ye’ and ‘you’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  • اٰبَآؤُ — Aa-baa-o — Forefathers (= n., pl., Elders; fathers; grandfathers h.h.s. The word also means parents and grandparents. A/t/a, ‘fathers’ )
  • كُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You men. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • مَّا — Maa — Not (= Absolutely none; never; no; not at all. A/t/a, ‘without’)
  • نَزَّلَ — Nauz-za-la … (ul) — Revealed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Awarded. Delivered. Dropped. Dispatched. Entrusted. Given. Granted. Handed. Inspired. Laid down. Landed. Lowered. Provided. Released. Revealed. Sent down or shown. Supplied. See Note 002:005a. A/t/a, ‘sent down,’ ‘sent’ and ‘from.’ But the passive voice as in ‘hath been revealed’ and ‘has been revealed’ has not translated the active voice the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘for’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid group of names.  A/t/a, ‘which’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
  • سُلۡطٰنٍ‌ — Sool-taa-nin — Authority (= n., Allowance; authorization; decree; justification, plan, permission; power; proof; reason that is convincing; sanction; warrant. In an appropriate context the word can also mean a king, monarch or a mighty, irrefutable     and powerful argument or support. A/t/a, ‘authority,’ ‘warrant,’ ‘sanction’ and  ‘approval’)
  • فَ — Fa … (aun) — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘(If so) then’)
  • انْتَظِرُوۡۤا — Aun-ta-zay-roo — You wait (= v., pres., pl.,2nd person. Anticipate. Await. Expect. A/t/a, ‘wait,’ ‘wait for Allah’s judgment,’ ‘watch and wait,’ ‘wait (for the consequences),’ ‘await (the consequence)’ and ‘wait, if you will’)
  • اِنِّىۡ — In-nee — Certainly I (= Combination of two words. The 1st word اِنۡ (in) means  absolutely, clearly, decidedly, doubtlessly, positively, indeed, really, surely, truly or verily. The 2nd word ىۡ is the pronoun for one in 1st person. A/t/s, ‘I too … am,’  ‘I too am,’ ‘I am,’ ‘lo! I (also) am’ and ‘for I shall be’)
  • مَعَ — Ma-aa — With (= Also; as well; along with; besides; following; furthermore; in addition; in the company of; likewise; moreover)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You. See كُمۡ above)
  • مِّنَ — May-na … (ul) — Among (= From among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘amongst’ and ‘of’)
  • الۡمُنۡتَظِرِيۡنَ — Moon-ta-zay-ree-n — Those who wait for (= n., pl., Anticipators. Expectants. A/t/a, ‘those who wait.’ But the verb as in ‘waiting’ and ‘awaiting’ is no translation of the noun used in the text of the Holy Qor-aan)
