قُلۡ اِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ الۡـفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَ الۡاِثۡمَ وَالۡبَـغۡىَ بِغَيۡرِ الۡحَـقِّ وَاَنۡ تُشۡرِكُوۡا بِاللّٰهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهٖ سُلۡطٰنًا وَّاَنۡ تَقُوۡلُوۡا عَلَى اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

Qool  inna-maa  hur-ra-ma  rub-bee  il-fa-waa-hay-sha                                                            Maa  za-ha-ra  min  haa  wa  maa  ba-ta-na                                                                              Wa  ul-ith-ma  wa  ul-baugh-yay  bay-ghai-ray  il-huq-qay                                                        Wa  aun  toosh-ray-koo  bay  il-laa-hay                                                                                          Maa  laum  yo-nuz-zil  bay  hee  sool-taa-naun                                                                              Wa  aun  ta-qoo-loo  aa-laa  ul-laa-hay  maa  laa  tau-la-moo-n

 

Say, “My god has surely prohibited the lewdness                                                          Of that which is done openly or kept secret                                                                      And sinning or rebelling without just cause                                                                 And that you set up a partner with Allah                                                                        For which no authority has been provided                                                                 And that you say about Allah what you do not know.”

 

  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Ask; question. See Commentary ‘You say means…  A/t/a, ‘‘Tell them’ and ‘Say (O Muhammad s.a.w)’
  • اِنَّمَا — In-na-maa Most certainly (= Combination of two words. The first word  اِنَّ (inna)  means absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily. The second word  مَاۤ  (maa) means all that, what; whatever. whatsoever. Thus  اِنَّمَا  (inna-maa) lays great emphasis on the statement that follows it as absolutely, positively and most certainly accurate’. A/t/a, ‘only,’ ‘verily,’ ‘indeed’ and ‘The things … had indeed’)
  • حَرَّمَ — Hur-ra-ma — He Prohibited (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Banned; barred; disallowed; disapproved; excluded; forbidden; interdicted; made illegal; outlawed; not permitted; proscribed; stopped. Unauthorized. A/t/a, ‘forbids’ in the present tense has not translated the past tense text in the Holy Qor-aan has used)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002)
  • ىۡ — Ee … (il) — My (= pro., s., 1st person., I; me; my)
  • الۡـفَوَاحِشَ — Fa-waa-hay-sha — Lewdness (= n., pl., Abomination. Illegality. Immorality. Indecency. Inherently bad, evil, foul, immoral, improper, lewd, obscene, repulsive, shameful, sinful or unseemly act, conduct, deed, practice or thing. Open foul infraction. Sexual perversion. Violation. Wickedness by doing in public view any of the outrages. A/t/a, ‘foul deeds,’ ‘all (acts of) indecency,’ ‘indecencies,’ ‘shameful deeds,’ ‘indecent acts’ and Al-fawahish (great evil sins and every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever;  whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘whether,’ ‘whether committed’ and ‘such’)
  • ظَهَرَ — Za-ha-ra — Exposed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Done openly. Opened. Shown.  A/t/a, ‘open’ and ‘overt.’ But ‘are apparent’ in the present tense is an inaccurate translation of the past tense text of the Holy Qor-aan oly Qor-aan has used)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • هَا  — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid group. A/t/a, ‘them’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘and every (kind of)’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever.  See  مَاۤ  above. A/t/a, ‘such’)
  • بَطَنَ — Ba-ta-na — Was Hidden (= The same one word is for (1) v., past., s., 3rd person that means he kept secret by concealing in stomach, or was hidden (2) v., past., pass., s., 3rd person that means something was kept secret by concealing in stomach. Both words imply secrecy as if kept in belly or stomach. A/t/a, hidden’ and ‘disguised.’ But noun in ‘secret,’ or adv. in ‘secretly’ and verbs in the present tense in ‘are concealed’ and ‘are within’ are no translations of the text in the past tense used in the Holy Qor-aan)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  •  الۡاِثۡمَ — Aul-ith-ma — Sin (= n., Crime; guilt; infraction; illegality; iniquity; injustice; offence; sin; transgression; unjust conduct; wrong. Intentional / premeditated commission of a Prohibition. Blame, accountability or responsibility for an unlawful or unjustifiable conduct for any of the above acts. A/t/a, ‘all manners of sin’ and ‘sins (of all kinds)‘
  •  وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ   above)
  •  الۡبَـغۡىَ — Baugh-ya — Transgression (= n., Law and order situations. Disturbing an established order or authority. A/t/a, ‘aggression,’ ‘rebellion,’ ‘oppression,’ ‘trespasses’  and insolence’)
  •  بِغَيۡرِ — Bay-ghai-ray … (il) — Without  (= Separately the word  بِ  means with and غَيۡرِ means other or else. The combination means without. A/t/a, ‘against’)
  •  الۡحَـقِّ — Il-Hauq-qay — Justification (= n., Appropriateness; being right; fairness; good reason; just cause; reasonableness; suitability; truthfulness. A/t/a, ‘unjust,’ ‘wrongful,’ ‘truth and reason,’ ‘unrighteous’ and ‘which is never justifiable’)
  •  وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases. See  وَ   above. A/t/a, ‘and that’ and ‘and (He forbids you also)’
  •  اَنۡ — Aun — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily)
  •  تُشۡرِكُوۡا — Toosh-ray-koo  — Set up equals (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. You practice idolatry. Allege,  assert, associate or attribute partners to Almighty God. See Note 003:187 and Note 004:037. A/t/a, ‘assigning of partners,’ ‘joining partners (in worship),’ ‘associate,’  ‘ye associate,’ ‘to associate’ and ‘to worship’)
  • بِ — Bay … (il) — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘with’ )
  • اللّٰهِ‌ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever. See مَاۤ above. A/t/a, ‘such’ A/t/a, ‘that,’ ‘that which’ and ‘for which’)
  • لَمۡ — Laum — Not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
  • يُنَزِّلۡ — Yo-nauz-zil — Send down (= v. pres., pass., s., 3rd person. Descend; land; lower. A/t/a, ‘has been revealed.’ But ‘He has sent down,’ ‘sent down,’ ‘He has sent,’ ‘He has given,’ ‘hath given,’ and  ‘sanctioned’ in the active voice have not translated the text of the Holy Qor-aan in passive voice)
  •  بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  •  هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person. A/t/a, (for this and the prior word jointly) ‘for which’)
  • سُلۡطٰنًا — Sool-ta-naun — Authority (= n., Allowance; authorization; decree; justification, plan; permission; power; proof; reason that is convincing; sanction; warrant. In an appropriate context the word can also mean a king, monarch or a mighty, irrefutable and powerful argument or support. A/t/a, ‘warrant’)
  •  وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  •  اَنۡ — Aun — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily. A/t/a, ‘that’)
  •  تَقُوۡلُوۡا — Ta-qoo-loo — You say (= v., pres., pl, 2nd person. Allege; announce, call; convey; declare; insist; maintain, persist; propagate; state; tell. See  قُلۡ  above. A/t/a, ‘to say,’  ‘saying,’ ‘attribute,’ ‘ye tell’ and ‘you tell’)
  •  عَلٰى– Alaa — About (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘of,’ ‘concerning’ and ‘about’)
  •  اللّٰهِ‌ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  •  مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; See  مَاۤ  above. A/t/a, ‘of which,’ ‘that which’  and ‘what’)
  •  لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  •  تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ — Tau-la-moo-n — You know (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Aware. Coach. Help to know. Instruct. Teach; Train. Tutor. Benefitting from process of  عَلَّمَ. A/t/a, ‘you have …  knowledge,’ ‘ye know,’ ‘you do … know (that it is in fact said by Him),’ ‘you do … know’  and ‘ye have … knowledge’)

 

Note 007:034. One set of meanings of the word  مَاۤ  (maa) are All that, what, whatever, whatsoever, at such time or when. But in this verse the same authors have translated it differently as follows. .
