The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                           007:063

 

اُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسٰلٰتِ رَبِّىۡ وَاَنۡصَحُ لَـكُمۡ وَاَعۡلَمُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

‏

O-baul-lay  koom  ray-saa-laa-tay  raub-bee
Wa  aun-sau-ho  la  koom  wa  au-la-moo  may-na
Al-laa-hay  maa  laa  tau-la-moon

 

I deliver to you my God’s messages
And I advise to you and I know from
Allah what you do not know.

قَالَ يٰقَوۡمِ لَـيۡسَ بِىۡ ضَلٰلَةٌ وَّلٰـكِنِّىۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ‏

 

Qaa-la  yaa  qao-may  lai-sa  bee  dza-laa-la-toon
Wa  laa-kin  nee  ra-soo-loon  min  raub-bay  il-aa-la-mee-n

 

He said, “My people! There is no error with me;
 But I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Universe.”

 

Except for one word  ضَلٰلَةٌ  in verse 007:062 and  سَفَاهَةٌ  in verse 007:068, the verses are identical

  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; informed; elaborated; explained; specified; told. See 002:031. A/t/a, ‘Noah remonstrated,’ ‘[Nuh (Noah)]’ and ‘He replied’)

  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa — No, not (= Never; not at all; absolute and total negation. A/t/a, ‘no … is there,’ ‘involved in no,’ ‘There is no,’ ‘no’ and ‘not’)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • ىۡ — Ee — Me (= pro., s., 1st person., I; me; my. A/t/a, ‘me,’ ‘I am’ and ‘my (mind)’
  • ضَلٰلَةٌ — Dza-laa-la-toon — Error (= n., Blunder; boo-boo; fault; inaccuracy; miscalculation; misguidance; mistake; straying; wrong road. A/t/a, ‘error, (nor I am lost)’

It means the Universe, all His creations, all that exists in whole Universe, all that has life, and Mankind. See Note 001:002. قَالَ الۡمَلَاُ مِنۡ قَوۡمِهٖۤ اِنَّا لَـنَرٰٮكَ فِىۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيـۡنٍ‏

  

Qaa-la  ul-ma-la-o  min  qao-may  he
In-naa  la  na-raa  ka  fee  dza-laa-lin  mo-bee-n

 

 The leaders from among his people said,
 “We surely see you in a very plain error.”

 

  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la … (ul) — Said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast;    called; conveyed; declared; informed; elaborated; explained; specified; told. See  002:031)
  • الۡمَلَاُ — Ma-la-o — The Leaders (= n., pl., Bosses; chiefs; family-heads; gurus; heroes;  generals; people in the forefront. A/t/a, ‘leading men,’ ‘chiefs,’ ‘chieftains’ and ‘elders’)

لَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوۡحًا اِلٰى قَوۡمِهٖ فَقَالَ يٰقَوۡمِ اعۡبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡ اِلٰهٍ غَيۡرُهٗ ؕ اِنِّىۡۤ اَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيۡمٍ‏

 

La  qaud  aur-aul-naa  noo-haun  aiy-laa  qao-may  he
 Fa  qaa-la  yaa  qao-may  aiy-bo-doo l-laa-ha
Maa  la  koom  min  aiy-laa-hin  ghai-ro  ho
In-nee  aa-khaa-fo  aa-lai  koom  aa-zaa-ba  yao-min  aa-zee-m

 

We surely sent Noah as Messenger to his people
 So he said, “Listen my people! Worship Allah.
 No god to worship is for you other than Him.
Surely I am afraid for you about the punishment of the Great Day.”

 

  • لَ — La — Surely  (= Absolutely. Assuredly. Certainly. Definitely)

The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘sent,’ ‘ ’sent forth’ and ‘did send’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us)
  • نُوۡحًا — Noo-haun — Noah (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a,  ‘Nuh (Noah)’  and ‘Noah (of old) ‘people’)
  • اِلَى — Aiy-laa — To (= In the direction of; to [most]; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’)

وَالۡبَلَدُ الطَّيِّبُ يَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهٗ بِاِذۡنِ رَبِّهٖ ‌ۚ وَالَّذِىۡ خَبُثَ لَا يَخۡرُجُ اِلَّا نَكِدًا ‌ؕ كَذٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ الۡاٰيٰتِ لِقَوۡمٍ يَّشۡكُرُوۡنَ

 

Wa  ul-ba-la-do  t-toy-ya-bo  yaukh-ro-jo 
Na-baa-to  hoo  bay  iz-nay  raub-bay  he         
Wa  ul-la-ze  kha-bo-tha  laa  yaukh-ro-jo  il-laa  na-kay-da

Ka-zaa-lay-ka  no-saur-ray-fo  ol-aa-yaa-tay
Lay  qao-min  yaush-ko-roo-n

 

And a good land produces its vegetation 
With the master plan of its God.                                                                                             
And that which turned bad does not produce except thorns.

This is how by rotation We display the Signs                                                               
For the people who appreciate.

  • كَذٰلِكِ — Ka-zaa-lay-ka — Like this (= Combines two words. كَ means example, like, identical resembling, similar. ذٰلِكَ means ‘this right in here’ and refers to an aforesaid event, fact, person or statement. The combination means ‘like this,’ ‘so it will be,’ ‘such   is the way,’ ‘the same way,’ ‘that is how’ or ‘this way.’A/t/a, ‘In the like manner,’ ‘Thus’ and ‘That is how’)
  • نُصَرِّفُ — No-saur-ray-fo … (l) — We display (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Bring up one thing after another by rotation so others may see them. Cause to be seen. Show. وَهُوَ الَّذِىۡ يُرۡسِلُ الرِّيٰحَ بُشۡرًۢا بَيۡنَ يَدَىۡ رَحۡمَتِهٖ ‌ؕ حَتّٰۤى اِذَاۤ اَقَلَّتۡ سَحَابًا ثِقَالًا سُقۡنٰهُ لِبَلَدٍ مَّيِّتٍ فَاَنۡزَلۡنَا بِهِ الۡمَآءَ فَاَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهٖ مِنۡ كُلِّ الثَّمَرٰتِ‌ؕ كَذٰلِكَ نُخۡرِجُ الۡمَوۡتٰى لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُوۡنَ

 

Wa  ho-wa  ul-la-ze  yoor-say-lo  re-yaa-ha                                                                             Boosh-raun  bai-na  ya-dai  rah-ma-tay  he

Hau-taa  aiy-zaa  aa-qaul-laut  sa-haa-baun  thay-qaa-laun                                                  Sooq-naa  ho  lay  ba-la-din  mauy-yay-tin                                                                                      Fa  aun-zaul  naa  bay  he  il-maa-aa                                                                                            Fa  aukh-rauj  naa  bay  he  min  kool-lay  ith-tha-maa-raa-t

Ka-zaa-lay-ka  nookh-ray-jo  ol-mao-taa                                                                                          La-aul-la  koom  ta-zauk-ka-roo-n

 

And it is He who sends the Winds                                                                                          As the good news before His Mercy

Until when it became heavy as a cloud                                                                              We made a drink of it by a dead land.                                                                                  So with that cloud We send down water.                                                                            Then therewith We produced fruits of all kinds.

This is how We produce life in the dead                                                                              That they may remember who their Creator is.

  • الرِّيٰحَ — Re-yaa-ha — The winds (= n., pl., Flows, gusts and streams of air. Storms. Winds. Whirlwinds. Windstorms)
  • بُشۡرًۢا — Boosh-raun — Good news (= n., Glad tiding; happy news; message of good cheer,   hope or victory. A happy, joyful, joyous or pleasant event, news, person, thing or tiding. A/t/a, ‘bearing good news,’ ‘as glad tidings,’ ‘as tidings heralding,’ ’as good tidings heralding,’ ‘like heralds of,’ ‘like heralds of glad tiding,’ ‘as heralds of glad tiding’ and ‘as harbinger of’)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt
  • يَدَيۡ — Ya-dai — Hands (= The word بَيۡنَ means ‘Between or betwixt’ and  يَدَيۡ  means hands. Thus the whole phrase  بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡ  means ahead its hands, facing or in front of it. A/t/a, ‘before,’ ‘in advance of,’ ‘of’ and ‘going before’)
  • رَحۡمَتِ — Rah-ma-tay — Mercy (= n., Beneficence. Blessing. Clemency. Compassion. Condoning. Forgiveness. Intercession. Intervention. Kindness. Leniency. Omitting, relenting or waiving punishment. A/t/a, ‘Mercy (rain)’
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • حَتّٰى — Haut-ta — Until (= By the end of the period or term; till the time. A/t/a, ‘till’)
  • اِذَا —  Aiy-zaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also,  behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • اَقَلَّتۡ — Aa-qaul-laut — Became heavy (= v., past., pass., f/g., 3rd person. Became or turned  bushy, compact, condensed, copious, impenetrable, short, thick. A/t/a, ‘they bear,’ ‘they have carried,’ ‘they (those winds) bear’ and ‘they have gathered’)
  • سَحَابًا — Sa-aa-baun — As a cloud (= adv., The product resulting from the process wherein hot air rises, and carries steam from warm water up into the atmosphere and colder temperature condenses that into vapors and drops of water and falls as rain on earth and forms streams, lakes, rivers and oceans. A/t/a, ‘clouds, find them light’)
  • ثِقَالًا — Thay-qa-laun — Very heavy (= adv., Weighing heavy. A/t/a, ‘heavy,’ ‘heavy (with rain),’ ‘heavy laden,’ ‘heavy-laden,’ ‘a laden’ and ‘a heavy’)
  • سُقۡنٰ — Sooq-naa — We made a drink (= v., past., pl., 1st person. We made it drunk; gave the  drink; irrigated. The verb in past tense for 3rd person is converted into that of 1st person as explained in the Note 001:007. A/t/a, Translations like ‘We drive,’ ‘We lead,’ ‘We drive (the clouds)’ and ‘He drives’ show failure to distinguish the text in the past tense from that in the present tense or act of a 1st person from that of a 3rd person)

  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘to’)

  • مَّيِّت — Muy-yay-tin — Dead (= adj., Deceased; decedent; lifeless; with no life. A/t/a, ‘some dead’)

  • اَنۡزَلۡنَا — Aun-zaul-naa — We sent down (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Regarding rain … Brought it down; landed, lowered or sent down; delivered, gave, dispatched; provided, showered. The past tense verb for 3rd person is converted into that of 1st person as  explained in the Note 001:007.   • نُخۡرِجُ –Nookh-ray-joo … (ol) — We produce (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Bring out; grow; produce; restore. The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                 007:057

 

وَلَا تُفۡسِدُوۡا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ اِصۡلَاحِهَا وَادۡعُوۡهُ خَوۡفًا وَّطَمَعًا‌ ؕ اِنَّ رَحۡمَتَ اللّٰهِ قَرِيۡبٌ مِّنَ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ

‏

Wa  laa  toof-say-do  fee  il-aur-dzay  bau-da  iss-laa-hay  haa                                                  Wa  ud-oo  ho  khao-faun  wa  ta-ma-aa                                                                                          In-na  rah-ma-ta  ul-laa-hay  qa-re-boon  may-na  ul-moh-say-nee-n

 

And do not corrupt in earth after its reformation                                                      And pray to Him in fear of non-acceptance and hope for acceptance.                Certainly the mercy of Allah is very near among the do-gooders.

اُدۡعُوۡا رَبَّكُمۡ تَضَرُّعًا وَّخُفۡيَةً‌ ؕ اِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الۡمُعۡتَدِيۡنَ‌

 

  Ood-oo  raub-ba  koom  ta-dzar-ro-aun  wa  khoof-ya-taun                                                  In-na  hoo  laa  yo-hib-bo  ol-moe-ta-dee-n

 

Pray to your God abjectly and secretly                                                                            He surely does not love the transgressors.

اِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اللّٰهُ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضَ فِىۡ سِتَّةِ اَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسۡتَوٰى عَلَى الۡعَرۡشِ يُغۡشِى الَّيۡلَ النَّهَارَ يَطۡلُبُهٗ حَثِيۡثًا ۙ وَّالشَّمۡسَ وَالۡقَمَرَ وَالنُّجُوۡمَ مُسَخَّرٰتٍۢ بِاَمۡرِهٖ ؕ اَلَا لَـهُ الۡخَـلۡقُ وَالۡاَمۡرُ‌ ؕ تَبٰرَكَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ

 

In-na  raub-ba  ko-mo  ol-laa-ho  ul-la-ze                                                                                      Kha-la-qa  us-sa-maa-waa-tay  wa  ul-aur-dza                                                                          Fee  sit-ta-tay  auy-yaa-min                                                                                                        Thoom-ma  aus-ta-waa  aa-la  ul-aur-shay

Yoogh-shay  l-lai-la  un-na-haa-ra                                                                                              Yaut-lo-bo  hoo  ha-thee-thaa                                                                                                                Wa  ush-shaum-sa  wa  ul-qa-ma-ra  wa  un-na-joo-ma                                                          Mo-saukh-kha-raa-tin  bay  aum-ray  he

Aa-laa  la  ho  ol-khaul-qo  wa  ul-aum-ro                                                                                        Ta-baa-ra-ka  ul-laa-ho  raub-bo  ol-aa-la-mee-n

 

Certainly your Lord is Allah He Who                                                                              Created the heavens and earth                                                                                                In six days                                                                                                                              Then He settled Himself on the Top.

The night covers by coming after the day                                                                      Seeking it instantaneously                                                                                                         And the Sun and the Moon and the Stars are                                                                    Pressed into service with His Command.                                                     

Does not the Creation and the Command belong to Him?                                      Blessed is Allah, the Lord Provider to the Universes.

  • النُّجُوۡمَ — Na-joo-ma — The Stars (= pl., The source of faint lights. The gaseous masses in space that generate energy by thermonuclear reactions, e.g., sun. Innumerable astronomical objects which are visible as tiny bright but flickering points of light in sky  and collectively provide a dim glow on clear nights)
  • مُسَخَّرٰتٍۢ — Mo-saukh-kha-raa-tin — Pressed into service (= n., pl., Bound down. Connected. Harnessed. Hitched. Subordinated. Yoked in. A/t/a, ‘all made subservient,’ ‘all subservient (to mankind),’ ‘all subservient to His command,’ ‘(All) governed by laws,’ ‘hath made … subservient,’ ‘made subservient,’ ‘subjected to’ and ‘forced them into His service’)

  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty Allah)
  • اَلَا — Aa-laa — Isn’t it (= This word combines two words. The first  اَ  (aa) is used to ask a question as with are, can, could, do, did, have,  had, is, shell, should, was, will, would, what, etc. The  second لَا (laa) is a word of denial that means no, not, none, neither, never, naught, etc. Together as one word it means is it not or isn’t it, was it not or wasn’t it, absolutely, positively, surely or verily, etc., or to warn such as with beware, listen, pay attention or remember. A/t/a, ‘Is it not,’ ‘Verily,’ ‘Herken’ and ‘Surely’)
  • لَ — La — For (= Belonging to. In the control of. For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘is’ and ‘to’)
  • هٗ  — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty Allah. A/t/a, ‘His,’ ‘His is’ and ‘His is all’)

  • الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ‏  — Aa-la-meen — The Universe   (= n., pl., As an attribute of God Almighty the word implies no limits. The Holy Qor-aan                                               016:099                                     سُوۡرَةُ النّحل                                                

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with a 6-digit number; the first three digits tell of Soorah (Chapter) and the last three tell of verse. Numbering includes بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as verse #1 in every Soorah except Soorah #9. The phonetic transliteration in English is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → pet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, rut. An Arabic word with the vowel Fatah is best shown with a ‘u’ as in cut, rut, hut, but letter ‘a’ is often placed before ‘u’ to make it doubly sure that it is read as in cause, pause and clause and not with the sound of  ‘oo’ as in hoot, root, shoot or put. All Arabic words are translated in American English and are followed by alternates which other   translators have used.

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                      016:099

 

  فَاِذَا قَرَاۡتَ الۡقُرۡاٰنَ فَاسۡتَعِذۡ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيۡطٰنِ الرَّجِيۡمِ

 

Fa  aiy-zaa  qa-rau-ta  ul-qoor-aa-na  fa  us-ta-iz                                                                        Bay  il-laa-hay  may-na  ush-shai-taa-na  ir-ra-jee-m

 

 So when you recite the Qor-aan, then seek refuge                                                 With Allah from the Satan, the discarded.   

 

  • فَ  — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet)
  • اِذَا — Aiy-zaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • قَرَاۡتَ — Qa-rau-ta … (ul) —  You read (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Convey the message; internalize; proclaim; recite; share; study; spread the word. See Note 001:007 how this verb in the 3rd person followed by the next word  تَ  turned it to mean in the 2nd person)
  • الۡقُرۡاٰنَ — (U)l-qoor-aa-na — The Qor-aan (= n., The written material that has been, is and will be read again, and again, and again till the Resurrection. The Divine  Word. The Scripture that brought Iss-laam. See some of Commentaries like “The Holy Qor-aan – The Most Read  Book In The World,” “The Holy Qor-aan is no joke” and “The Holy Qor-aan from other Translations” among several others)
  • فَ — Fa … (us) — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore. See فَ above)
  • اسۡتَعِذۡ — Us-ta-iz — Seek refuge (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Defense. Guard. Protection. Safety. Safeguard. Shield. Shelter)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with but the context here warrants that one may substitute it with an ‘in’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

Text in the next three words is repeated in verses 003:037, 016:099 and 081:026, etc.

  • مِنَ — May-na … (ush) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ — Shai-taa-n … (ir) — The Satan (= n., s., Bad, false or evil companion, deity, friend or leader. Devil. Evil spirited person. Polytheists. Rebellious ringleader. Also, hypocrite; idolater; satanic, the evil personified. English has no plural of Satan like this Arabic word for a single Satan. Satan. A/t/a, hypocrite; idol-worshiper)
  • الرَّجِيۡمِ — Ra-jee-m — The discarded (= adj., Accursed; banished; discarded; driven or thrown away; ousted; outcast; rejected; stone-worthy; thrown away; worth being disowned; worthy of being stoned or stone-worthy. The Satan has been named along with the adjective  رَّجِيۡم  in several verses mentioned above)

Note 016:099. The Command in this verse is to commence reading, reciting, conveying the message, discussing, learning, knowing or teaching the Holy Qor-aan with the prayer to seek God’s protection against Satan.

The attacks on man by Satan (007:017 and several verses that follow) come from many quarters including friends, thoughts (114:001 to 007) and even enemies. Moslems all over the world follow the Command and commence reciting the Holy Qor-aan with the following prayer.

اَعُوًذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيۡطٰنِ الرَّجِيۡم

Aa  oo-zo  bay  il-laa-hay  may-na  ush-shai-taa-nay  irra-jeem

I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the discarded or stone-worthy.
