The Holy Qor-aan       007:056

 

اُدۡعُوۡا رَبَّكُمۡ تَضَرُّعًا وَّخُفۡيَةً‌ ؕ اِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الۡمُعۡتَدِيۡنَ‌

 

  Ood-oo  raub-ba  koom  ta-dzar-ro-aun  wa  khoof-ya-taun                                                  In-na  hoo  laa  yo-hib-bo  ol-moe-ta-dee-n

 

Pray to your God abjectly and secretly                                                                            He surely does not love the transgressors.

 

  • اُدۡعُوۡا —  Ood-oo — You all pray (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. In re God, you … ask, beg,  beseech, call, invoke, pray, request, seek and worship. In re others, you … call for help, call or upon, claim, demand, get, invite or summon assistance. اِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اللّٰهُ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضَ فِىۡ سِتَّةِ اَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسۡتَوٰى عَلَى الۡعَرۡشِ يُغۡشِى الَّيۡلَ النَّهَارَ يَطۡلُبُهٗ حَثِيۡثًا ۙ وَّالشَّمۡسَ وَالۡقَمَرَ وَالنُّجُوۡمَ مُسَخَّرٰتٍۢ بِاَمۡرِهٖ ؕ اَلَا لَـهُ الۡخَـلۡقُ وَالۡاَمۡرُ‌ ؕ تَبٰرَكَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ

 

In-na  raub-ba  ko-mo  ol-laa-ho  ul-la-ze                                                                                      Kha-la-qa  us-sa-maa-waa-tay  wa  ul-aur-dza                                                                          Fee  sit-ta-tay  auy-yaa-min                                                                                                        Thoom-ma  aus-ta-waa  aa-la  ul-aur-shay

Yoogh-shay  l-lai-la  un-na-haa-ra                                                                                              Yaut-lo-bo  hoo  ha-thee-thaa                                                                                                                Wa  ush-shaum-sa  wa  ul-qa-ma-ra  wa  un-na-joo-ma                                                          Mo-saukh-kha-raa-tin  bay  aum-ray  he

Aa-laa  la  ho  ol-khaul-qo  wa  ul-aum-ro                                                                                        Ta-baa-ra-ka  ul-laa-ho  raub-bo  ol-aa-la-mee-n

 

Certainly your Lord is Allah He Who                                                                              Created the heavens and earth                                                                                                In six days                                                                                                                              Then He settled Himself on the Top.

The night covers by coming after the day                                                                      Seeking it instantaneously                                                                                                         And the Sun and the Moon and the Stars are                                                                    Pressed into service with His Command.                                                     

Does not the Creation and the Command belong to Him?                                      Blessed is Allah, the Lord Provider to the Universes.

The Holy Qor-aan                                               016:099                                     سُوۡرَةُ النّحل                                                

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with a 6-digit number; the first three digits tell of Soorah (Chapter) and the last three tell of verse. Numbering includes بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as verse #1 in every Soorah except Soorah #9. The phonetic transliteration in English is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → pet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, rut. An Arabic word with the vowel Fatah is best shown with a ‘u’ as in cut, rut, hut, but letter ‘a’ is often placed before ‘u’ to make it doubly sure that it is read as in cause, pause and clause and not with the sound of  ‘oo’ as in hoot, root, shoot or put. All Arabic words are translated in American English and are followed by alternates which other   translators have used.

  فَاِذَا قَرَاۡتَ الۡقُرۡاٰنَ فَاسۡتَعِذۡ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيۡطٰنِ الرَّجِيۡمِ

 

Fa  aiy-zaa  qa-rau-ta  ul-qoor-aa-na  fa  us-ta-iz                                                                        Bay  il-laa-hay  may-na  ush-shai-taa-na  ir-ra-jee-m

 

 So when you recite the Qor-aan, then seek refuge                                                 With Allah from the Satan, the discarded.   

 

  • فَ  — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet)
  • اِذَا — Aiy-zaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • قَرَاۡتَ — Qa-rau-ta … (ul) —  You read (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Convey the message; internalize; proclaim; recite; share; study; spread the word. See Note 001:007 how this verb in the 3rd person followed by the next word  تَ  turned it to mean in the 2nd person)
  • الۡقُرۡاٰنَ — (U)l-qoor-aa-na — The Qor-aan (= n., The written material that has been, is and will be read again, and again, and again till the Resurrection. The Divine  Word. The Scripture that brought Iss-laam. See some of Commentaries like “The Holy Qor-aan – The Most Read  Book In The World,” “The Holy Qor-aan is no joke” and “The Holy Qor-aan from other Translations” among several others)
  • فَ — Fa … (us) — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore. See فَ above)
  • اسۡتَعِذۡ — Us-ta-iz — Seek refuge (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Defense. Guard. Protection. Safety. Safeguard. Shield. Shelter)

  • ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ — Shai-taa-n … (ir) — The Satan (= n., s., Bad, false or evil companion, deity, friend or leader. Devil. Evil spirited person. Polytheists. Rebellious ringleader. Also, hypocrite; idolater; satanic, the evil personified. English has no plural of Satan like this Arabic word for a single Satan. Satan. A/t/a, hypocrite; idol-worshiper)
  • الرَّجِيۡمِ — Ra-jee-m — The discarded (= adj., Accursed; banished; discarded; driven or thrown away; ousted; outcast; rejected; stone-worthy; thrown away; worth being disowned; worthy of being stoned or stone-worthy. The Satan has been named along with the adjective  رَّجِيۡم  in several verses mentioned above)

Note 016:099. The Command in this verse is to commence reading, reciting, conveying the message, discussing, learning, knowing or teaching the Holy Qor-aan with the prayer to seek God’s protection against Satan.

The attacks on man by Satan (007:017 and several verses that follow) come from many quarters including friends, thoughts (114:001 to 007) and even enemies. Moslems all over the world follow the Command and commence reciting the Holy Qor-aan with the following prayer.

اَعُوًذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيۡطٰنِ الرَّجِيۡم

Aa  oo-zo  bay  il-laa-hay  may-na  ush-shai-taa-nay  irra-jeem

I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the discarded or stone-worthy.

هَلۡ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَ اِلَّا تَاۡوِيۡلَهٗ‌ؕ يَوۡمَ يَاۡتِىۡ تَاۡوِيۡلُهٗ يَقُوۡلُ الَّذِيۡنَ نَسُوۡهُ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِالۡحَـقِّ‌ۚ فَهَلْ لَّـنَا مِنۡ شُفَعَآءَ فَيَشۡفَعُوۡا لَـنَاۤ اَوۡ نُرَدُّ فَنَعۡمَلَ غَيۡرَ الَّذِىۡ كُنَّا نَـعۡمَلُ‌ؕ قَدۡ خَسِرُوۡۤا اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَفۡتَرُوۡنَ

 

Haul  yaun-zo-roo-na  il-laa  tau-vee-la  hoo                                                                            Yao-ma  yau-tee  tau-vee-la  hoo                                                                                                        Ya-qoo-lo  ol-la-ze-na  na-soo  ho  min  qaub-lo

Qaud  aa-aut  ro-so-lo  raub-bay  naa  bay  il-hauq-qay                                                              Fa  haul  la  naa  min  sho-faa-aa-aa                                                                                                Fa  yaush-fa-oo  la  naa                                                                                                                      Auo  no-raud-do  fa  nau-ma-la                                                                                                          Ghai-ra  ul-la-ze  koon-naa  nau-ma-lo

Qaud  kha-say-roo  aun-fo-sa-hoom  wa                                                                                        Dhaul-la  aun  hoom  maa  kaa-no  yauf-ta-roon

 

Are they looking for anything but its explanation?                                                        The day its explanation comes                                                                                             Those who forgot it before that will say,

“Certainly messengers of our God had come with the Truth.                                    So are there for us any of the intercessors                                                                        So that they can intercede for us?                                                                                        Or we return so that we work in ways                                                                            Other than that we have been working.”

Certainly they had caused loos to themselves and                                                      Lost from them was all they had been concocting.

  • يَفۡتَرُونَ — Yauf-ta-roon They concocting (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Padding up lies to appear true. This word shows people pursuing for a bad result and not for any good outcome. See 003:025. A/t/a, ‘fabricate,’ ‘fabricate (invoking and worshipping others besides Allah)’and ‘forge’. But the past tense in ‘they invented,’ ‘they forged’ and ‘they devised’ is no translation of the Holy Qor-aan text in the present tense)

 

** Note 007:054: A typical example of how some authors have mistranslated the text of the Holy Qor-aan is the following extract. NJD verbalized his view to publish his work as if it were a translation of the Holy Qor-aan. His writing on its own is quite reasonable but it is not a translation of the verse 007:054 of the Holy Qor-aan.

      “(T)hose … will say: ‘Our Lord’s apostles have surely preached the truth. Will no                   one plead on our behalf? Could we but live our lives again, we would not do as we          have done. They shall forfeit their souls, and that which they devised will fail them.’”

The above extract may qualify as a cryptic statement of the author’s view about what he thought he read. However, it is no accurate translation of the original text. Such so-called translations of the Moslem’s Scripture have often been criticized by hostile writers whose criticism as well as the underlying matter they criticize is not 100% right.

وَلَقَدۡ جِئۡنٰهُمۡ بِكِتٰبٍ فَصَّلۡنٰهُ عَلٰى عِلۡمٍ هُدًى وَّرَحۡمَةً لِّـقَوۡمٍ يُّؤۡمِنُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa  la  qaud  jaiy-naa  hoom  bay  kay-taa-bin                                                                              Faus-sul  naa  ho  alaa  il-min                                                                                                          Ho-daun  wa  rauh-ma-taun  lay  qao-mim  yoe-may-noo-n

 

And certainly We came to them with a Book that                                                          We explained it based upon knowledge                                                                        That is guidance and mercy for people who believe.

** 007:053. The root  ف  ص  ل  carries the meanings of protection. The derivate فصيل  means that strong outer wall that used to protect old fortresses against external invaders. The word فَصَّلۡ means encircled, entrenched, fortified, protected and surrounded. In reference to the Book and in the context of this verse the best translation is enriched, expounded and explained.

Aul-ze-na  ut-ta-kha-zoo  de-na  hoom                                                                                            Lauh-waun  wa  la-aiy-baun  wa                                                                                                        Ghau-raut  ho-mo  ol-ha-yaa-to  od-doon-ya                                                                                Fa  ul-yao-ma  naun-saa  hoom  ka-maa                                                                                          Na-soo  lay-qaa-aa  yao-may  him  haa-zaa                                                                                  Wa  maa  kaa-noo  bay  aa-yaa-tay  naa  yauj-ha-doo-n

 

Those who took their religion                                                                                              As a pastime and sport and                                                                                                    The present life beguiled them,                                                                                        Thus this day We forgot them just like                                                                            They forgot meeting of theirs this day                                                                                  And that they used to fight back with Our Signs.

وَنَادٰٓى اَصۡحٰبُ النَّارِ اَصۡحٰبَ الۡجَـنَّةِ اَنۡ اَفِيۡضُوۡا عَلَيۡنَا مِنَ الۡمَآءِ اَوۡ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ ‌ؕ قَالُـوۡۤا اِنَّ اللّٰهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى الۡـكٰفِرِيۡنَ ۙ ‏

 

Wa  naa-daa  aus-haa-boon  naa-ray  aus-haa-bo  ol-jaun-na-tay                                          Aun  aa-fee-dzoo  aa-lai  naa  may-na  aul-maa-ay                                                                  Auo  mim-maa  ra-za-qa  ko-mo  ol-laa-ho                                                                              Qaa-loo  in-na  ul-laa-ha  haur-ra-ma  ho-maa  aa-la  ul-kaa-fa-ree-n

 

And the inmates of Fire called the people of Paradise                                                That they pour down “On us some of the water                                                              Or with what Allah has provided you.”                                                                            They said, “Allah has prohibited that upon the disbelievers.”

اَهٰٓؤُلَۤاءِ الَّذِيۡنَ اَقۡسَمۡتُمۡ لَا يَنَالُهُمُ اللّٰهُ بِرَحۡمَةٍ ‌ؕ اُدۡخُلُوا الۡجَـنَّةَ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَلَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ تَحۡزَنُوۡنَ 

 

Aa  haa-o-laa-aiy  il-la-ze-na  auq-saum  toom                                                                            Laa  ya-naa-lo  ho-mo  ol-laa-ho  bay  rauh-ma-tin  ood-kho-lo ol-jaun-na-ta                      Laa  khao-foon  aa-lai-koom  wa  laa  aun-toom  tauh-za-noon

 

Are these those that you swore                                                                                              Allah will reach them with His Mercy. Now you enter Paradise.                          No fear upon you. And you do not grieve.

 

  • اَ — Aa — Are (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did, have; had, shell, should, will, would, what, etc. A/t/a, ‘Behold! Are,’ ‘Are’ and ‘Pointing to the inmates of heaven they will ask, Are’)

  • اَقۡسَمۡتُمۡ — Auq-saum-toom —  You swore (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. You declared a solemn affirmation. You stated on oath. See 001:007 how the main operative part of this verb is converted from that for a 3rd person to that for a 2nd person. A/t/a, ‘ye swore’)

  • يَنَالُ — Ya-naa-lo — Reaches (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Applies; arrives; covers; embraces; extends to; fills; includes. A/t/a, ‘will … extend,’ ‘would … bless,’ ‘would … bestow,’ ‘would … extend,’ ‘show,’ ‘would … show’ and ‘would … earn’)

  • ادۡخُلُوۡا — Ood-kho-loo — Enter (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Come in; go in; move or walk   in; proceed to. A/t/a, ‘Enter ye,’ ‘Enter,’m‘To them it has been said, “Enter,’ ‘Allah will say to the people of heaven, Enter,’ ‘To them God will say,’ ‘(Allah has ordered them) Enter,’ ‘(Behold! It has been said to them) Enter,’ ‘They have been admitted and it has been said to them,’ ‘(Unto them it has been said): Enter’ and ’Again turning to the blessed they shall say, dwell’)
  • الۡجَـنَّةَ — Jaun-na-tay — The Paradise (= n., s., Big grove; Coppice. Thicket. Garden of  ultimate and everlasting beauty and greenery. See Phrase O-laa-aiy-ka  aus-haa-bo  ol-jaun-nah …)

                See Phrase Laa-khao-foon aa-lai-him …  meaning No Fear Upon Them …                which states in 3rd person the same following words in the 2nd person.

  • اَنۡـتُمۡ — Aun-toom — Surely you (= pro., pl., 2nd person. This is a combination of  اِنۡ  (Un)   that means absolutely, clearly, really, surely, truly or verily and  تُمۡ  (toom) that is for the pronoun you. A/t/a, ‘ye,’ ‘you’ and ‘shall you’)
  • تَحۡزَنُوۡنَ — Tauh-za-noo-n — You grieve (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Experience or put to grief or regret. Feel sorrow, worry or what evokes regret, remorse or remorseful situation. A/t/a, ‘to regret.’ But the future tense as in ‘who will grieve’ has not translated the Text of the Holy Qor-aan in the present tense)

وَنَادٰٓى اَصۡحٰبُ الۡاَعۡرَافِ رِجَالًا يَّعۡرِفُوۡنَهُمۡ بِسِيۡمٰٮهُمۡ قَالُوۡا مَاۤ اَغۡنٰى عَنۡكُمۡ جَمۡعُكُمۡ وَمَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَسۡتَكۡبِرُوۡنَ

 

Wa  naa-daa  aus-haa-bo  ol-au-raa-fay  ray-jaa-laun                                                            Yau-ray -foo-na  hoom  bay  see-maa  hoom                                                                                  Qaa-loo  maa  augh-naa  aun  koom  jaum-o  koom                                                                    Wa  maa  koon-toom  taus-tauk-bay-roo-n

 

And the people on the higher grounds called                                                              People whom they recognize with their markings.                                                    They said, “Did not avail you your accumulation                                                             Or what you used to pride in”

  • تَسۡتَكۡبِرُوۡنَ — Taus-tauk-bay-roo-n — You pride (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Acting arrogant, cocky and proud. Boasting. Bragging. Priding; Pluming. Swaggering. A/t/a, ‘your Arrogant ways,’ ‘arrogance,’ ‘your haughty claims,’ ‘your arrogance (against Faith)’ and ‘your scornful pride’ which are nouns, and ‘you took pride’ and ‘in which ye took your pride’ in the past tense have not translated the the Text of the Holy Qor-aan in the present tense)

وَاِذَا صُرِفَتۡ اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تِلۡقَآءَ اَصۡحٰبِ النَّارِۙ قَالُوۡا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا مَعَ الۡقَوۡمِ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ

 

Wa  aiy-zaa  so-ray-faut  aub-saa-ro  hoom                                                                               Til-qaa-aa  aus-haa-bo  on-naa-ray                                                                                                    Qaa-loo  raub-ba  naa  laa  tauj-aul  naa                                                                                      Ma-aa  ul-qao-may  iz-zaa-lay-mee-n

 

And when their eyes are rotated around                                                                    Meeting with the Inmates of Fire,                                                                                      They said, “Our Lord, make us not                                                                              Among the wrongdoing people.”
