Soo-ruh Aa-lay-Imraan                                    Chapter #003                                      سُوۡرَةُ آل عِمرَان

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, se → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. The Holy Qor-aan                                   003:001                                        ؕ بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

                                                                                    (Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n.(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the incoming waves from the oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         003:002                                                          الٓمّؕ‏

Alif. Laam. Meem

I am Allah.  I am Allah. I know all (I know the best).

  • ا           Alif          *           Abbreviation (one of the Haroof-e-Mo-qut-te-aat) for the word Allah
  • لٓ          Laam-meem    Abbreviation (one of the Haroof-e-Mo-qut-te-aat) for the word Aa-lum that means“I know all”.
  • مّ           Meem               Abbreviation (one of the Haroof-e-Mo-qut-te-aat) for the word Au-lum that means “I Know the best”

* Note 002:002. The translations differ as to the meanings of the three alphabets used as the verses 002:002, 003:002, 029:002, 030:002, 031-002 and 032:002. The allegation that they were the initials of the scribes who wrote them is downright preposterous for insinuating that human hands had contributed to what God Almighty had revealed to the Holy Prophet s.a.w.

The Holy Qor-aan        067-026

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Wa-ya-qoo-loo-na-ma-taa-haa-zul-wau-do-in-koon-toom-saa-de-quee-n

And they say,  “When will this promise be (filled) if you were truthful.”  **

  • وَ          Wa                     And                 (= Additionally; also; although; but; in addition to; while; yet)
  • يَقُولُونَ    Ya-qoo-loo-na Say                  (= 1- Beseech; demand; invoke; object; pray; request; 2- Announce; broadcast; convey; declare; inform; preach; profess; reply; specify; state; tell)
  • مَتَىٰ       Ma-taa              When               (= At what time or situation will become a reality, come to pass, happen, materialize or precipitate)
  • هَـٰذَا        Haa-za…(l)       This                 (= The article, thing or person present before the talker)
  • ٱلۡوَعۡدُ      Wau-do           Promise           (= Announcement; earnest assurance; guarantee; pledge; threat)

Truth

TRUTH

The Holy Qor-aan has used the word Truth at several places, in several contexts, for several situations and with several meanings including the following.

Accuracy.  Actuality.  Appropriate.  Conforming to knowledge.  Facts and factuality.  Faith and faithfulness.  Genuineness.  Honest and honesty.  Integrity.  Justification.  Legitimate. Loyalty.  Perfect. Proper.  Reality and realness. Real state of affairs.  Right and rightful.  Rightfulness.  Sincere.  Suitable.  Truthfulness.  Veracity.

Some interpreters have extended the word to also mean ‘The religion of the Unity Of God’, and the ‘Divine Book, Code or Scripture’ and the Holy Qor-aan.

Some places in the Holy Qor-aan that have used the Arabic word اَلۡحَـقُّ for Truth

TRUTH

002:148

The  Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       002:148

اَلۡحَـقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُوۡنَنَّ مِنَ الۡمُمۡتَرِيۡنَ

               Ul-huq-qo-min-rub-bay-ka-fa-laa-ta-koo-nun-na-may-nul-moom-ta-ree-n.

               The truth is from your God. So be not among the doubters. *

{The importance of the Command changing the Qibla is shown by the reiterated
assurance revealed thrice as stated in verses 002:145, 002:148 and 002:150}

  • اَلۡحَـقُّ — Ul-huq-qo — The Truth (= Appropriate; equitable; exactness; fair; fairness; just; just cause; justification; justice; justified conduct; preciseness; proper; reasonableness; suitable. Right. The word is also used to mean Islam, the Right Faith. See our Commentary titled as ‘Qibla Changed‘)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= From the class, category, count, kind or out of)
  • رَّبِّ — Rub-bay — God — (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident.  The Only One Who provides all that sustains life.  Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka — You — (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • فَ — Fa — Therefore (= As a result; at the end; consequently; hence; so; then; thus)
  • لَا — Laa — Not — (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • تَكُوۡنَنَّ — Ta-koo-nun-na — You be (= Become; join; remain)
  • مِنَ — May-na…(ul) — Among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • الۡمُمۡتَرِيۡنَ — Moom-ta-ree-n — Doubters (= Those who dispute, lack faith, waver or are suspicious)

* Note 002:148:   The wording in verses 002:148 and 003:061 is the same except for one word.   That one word in 002:148 is تَكُوۡنَنَّ.   That one word in 003:061 is تَكُنۡ .   Both those words mean almost the same.   Thus the message in both verses is also the same.

The  Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                              003:061

اَلۡحَـقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُنۡ مِّنَ الۡمُمۡتَرِيۡنَ

 

            Ul-huq-qo-min-rub-bay-ka-fa-laa-ta-koon-may-nul-moom-ta-ree-n.

 

            The truth is from your God.  So be not among the doubters.
