The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                    002:024

وَاِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ فِىۡ رَيۡبٍ مِّمَّا نَزَّلۡنَا عَلٰى عَبۡدِنَا فَاۡتُوۡا بِسُوۡرَةٍ مِّنۡ مِّثۡلِهٖ وَادۡعُوۡا شُهَدَآءَكُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ

Wa  in  koon-toom  fee  rai-bin  mim-maa
Nauz-zaul-naa  aa-laa  aub-day  naa
Fa  au-too  bay  soo-ra-tin-min  mith-lay  he
Wa  aud-oo  sho-ha-daa-aa  koom
Min  doo-nay  il-laa-hay
In  koon -toom  saa-day-qee-n

And if you have been in a doubt out of what
We entrusted to Our worshiper
Then come up with a segment like that.
And you all call your witnesses
From other than Allah
In case you have been truthful.

• وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; moreover; though; when; while; whereupon)
• اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; whenever)
• كُنۡتُمۡ — Koon-toom  — You have been (= pro., pl., m., 2^nd person. Combination of two words. The first word is  كُنۡ  which means have or had been since the past. The second word is  تُمۡ  that means you all men. The Holy Qor-aan has addressed men and women jointly. Some authors have interpreted this ‘you’ to mean Arab pagans and those who doubted that the Almighty God had revealed the Holy Qor-aan))
• فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Inside. Within. See Note 002:028)
• رَيۡبٍ — Rai-bin … (m) — Doubt (= n., Disbelief, distrust, doubt, dubious, grey area,  hesitation, qualm, reservation, suspicion or uncertainty. See Commentary ‘The Doubt’)
• مِمَّا — Mim-ma — Out of what (= Combination of two words. The first word   مِنۡ  (min)   means among, from or out of the class, category, kind, count or several persons or things. The second word  مَاۤ  (maa) means all that, what, whatever, any time, when, whenever. Combining both words means, for what, out of what, concerning, regarding, relative to, thereby)
• نَزَّلۡنَا  — Nauz-zaul-naa — We entrusted (= v., past., pl., 1^st person. Dispatched. Delivered. Gave. Gifted. Granted. Handed down. Inspired. Laid down. Landed. Lowered. Provided. Released; Revealed. Sent down. Supplied. The past tense verb for single          3^rd person is also that of plural 1^st person as explained in Note 001:007)
• عَلٰى — Aa-laa — To (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
• عَبۡد — Aub-day –Worshiper ( = n., s., Bondsman. Dedicated. Devotee. Devout. Obedient Servant. Server. Slave. Subservient. Also an adorer, appreciator, grateful, thankful or thanksgiver. And one who beseeches, prays, pays homage, praises, supplicates, worships and believes in the authenticity of the Holy Qor-aan)
• نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
• فَ — Fa … (u) — Then (= Consequently; resultantly; so; therefore. See 002:027)
• اۡتُوۡا — Au-too — Come up (= v., pres., pl., 2^nd person. Bring; deliver; demonstrate;   fetch; give; materialize; produce; show. Also in different context … contribute; distribute; pay. See Note 002:024 below)
• بِ — Bay — With (= The best translation of this word is ‘with’)
• سُوۡرَةٍ — Soo-ra-tin … (m) — A segment (= n., s., Piece. Section. Segment. Slice. Soorah or Surah. Text. One chapter, part or portion of a Holy Book or Scripture)
• مِّنۡ — Min … (m) — From (= Among, from or out of a class. See  مِّنۡ   above)
• مِّثۡلِ — Mith-lay — Like (= n., s., Comparable; identical; kind; quality; similar; type. See 002:018)
• هٖ — He — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Holy Qor-aan)
• وَ — Wa … (ud) — And (= Conjunction that connects words. See وَ  above)
• ادۡعُوۡا — Aud-oo — You all call (= v., pres., pl., 2^nd person. In re God, you …ask, beg, beseech, call, invoke, pray, request, seek and worship. In re others, you … call for help, call or upon, claim, demand, get, invite or summon assistance)
• شُهَدَآءَ — Sho-ha-daa-aa — Witnesses (= n., s., Attester, observer, onlooker, testifier, verifier, watch, watcher or witness. Adducer of proof. Bearer, giver or provider of evidence or testimony. Producer of corroboration. Also, helper, seer or supporter)
• کُمُ — Koom … (m) — Your  (= pro., pl., m., 2^nd person. You all. See  تُمۡ  above)
• مِّنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of a class. See  مِّنۡ  above)
• دُوۡنِ — Doo-nay … (il) — Other than (= Apart from; besides; beyond; except; excluding;  exclusive of; in preference to; other than; over; save; to the exclusion of the rest of)
• اللهِ –Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
• اِنۡ — In — If (= If situation arises; in case; under the circumstances)
• كُنۡتُمۡ — Koon-toom — You have been (= pro., pl., m., 2^nd person. See  كُنۡتُمۡ  above)
• صٰدِقِيۡنَ — Saa-day-qee-n — Truthful (= n., pl., Faithful. Genuine. Honest. Real. Sincere.. Straight. Straightforward. Truthful. Who always tell the truth)

** Note 002:024. Many derivates of root  ا  ت   ى  carry the meanings of coming. If it followed by the word  بِ  (which means ‘with’) the combination meaning ‘come with’ has often been translated as bring which is also not incorrect.

As a prayer to GOD by man it can be translated as follows.                                                            –  Donate. Entrust. Equip. Gift. Give. Grant. Hand down. Reward.                                              –  Bless. Bring. Confer. Deliver. Present. Provide. Show.

As a direction or order by a superior to his underlings it is best translated as follows.           –  Reach. Receive. Settle.                                                                                                                        –  Let it happen. Occur. Produce. Show.                                                                                             – Narrate. Proved State. Substantiate.

One derivate from this root is  اٰتَيۡ  (aa-tai = v., past., s., 3^rd person) and its meanings include the following among others.

1. Awarded; bestowed; blessed; conferred; entrusted; gifted; granted; handed down; handed over; laid out; presented, .
2. Compensated; contributed; offered; paid; presented; reimbursed; remitted’    remunerated.
3. Delivered, distributed, donated or practiced as charity
4. Equipped; revealed. Some authors have translated the word as enabled to embrace   blessing of Islam.
