Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   098:006

 

وَمَاۤ اُمِرُوۡۤا اِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مُخۡلِصِيۡنَ لَـهُ الدِّيۡنَ ۙ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيۡمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَيُؤۡتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ‌ وَذٰلِكَ دِيۡنُ الۡقَيِّمَةِ  ؕ ‏

.

Wa-maa-o-may-roo-il-la-lay-yau-bo-dool-laa-ha                                                                      Mookh-lay-see-na-la-hood-dee-na                                                                                                  Ho-na-faa-aa-wa-yo-qee-moos-sua-laa-ta                                                                                    Wa-yo-tooz-za-kaa-ta                                                                                                                          Wa-zaa-lay-ka-dee-nool-quy-yay-mauh

And they were not commanded except to worship Allah                                      Devoting exclusively to Him the religion                                                                    Being forever inclined. And they establish the prayer                                              And bring about the purification of earnings.                                                              And that is the religion, set up very well.

  • وَ — Wa — And  (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Absolutely not; never; no; not)
  • اُمِرُوۡۤا — O-may-roo — Commanded (= Directed; instructed; mandated; ordained; ordered; told
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; save; unless)
  • لِ — Lay — To / For ( = For the benefit, purpose or reason; on account of; with
    intent to or object of towards)
  • يَـعۡبُدُوۡا — Yau-bo-doo — They worship (= Acknowledge obedience; be grateful; honor; pay homage; pray; serve; thank)
  • للّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • مُخۡلِصِيۡنَ — Mookh-lay-see-na — Devoting (= 1. Sincerely obedient devotees abstaining from holding partners or ascribing associates to God Almighty. 2. Being sincere, bearing faith, offering exclusively, reserving all devotions and keeping the religion purely for God Almighty)
  • لَ — La — For ( = For the benefit, purpose or reason; on account of; with
    intent to or object of towards)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s.., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • الدِّيۡنَ — Ud-deen — The religion (= Faith; Islamic Monotheism; life-style; obedience; way of life; way to live. a/t/a recompense)
  • حُنَفَآءَ — Ho-na-faa-a — Being inclined (= Devoted and inclined to God perpetually; men upright in nature)

The Holy Qor-aan has repeated several times the Command in next six (6) words

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • يُقِيۡمُوا — Yo-qee-m…(oos)– They establish (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Attend to. Be steadfast. Comply fully with all dictates of all prayers. Perform with regularity. Observe properly)
  • الصَّلٰوةَ — Sua-laa-ta — The prayer (= n., This worship consists of daily payers numbering five as mandated and two more optionally. It is praying night and day, all the time in all things done [003:192], with full attention and focused mind, abjectly beseeching and supplicating. This Command to the Israelites [002:044 and 002:084] was later mandated for the Moslems [002:111] as well)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • يُؤۡتُوا — Yoe-too…(z) — Bring about (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Award. Confer. Contribute. Deliver. Distribute. Donate. Give. Grant. Hand over. Lay out. Pay. Practice. Present. Remit )
  • الزَّكٰوةَ — Za-kaa-ta — Purification (= Alms. Alms-tax. Alms that purify. Charity. Donation. Portion of income paid as alms or tithes to purify earnings and soul. Poor due. Poor-rate. Purification. The amount invested in the causes of Allah, to make  earnings grow and to reap greater rewards in the future and Hereafter. See Commentary titled as Islam 104 – 5 Acts of worships)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — That (= This here. The aforesaid fact, person or statement. This
    was because; right in here is; such is; that is how it is)
  • دِينُ — Dee-no…(ol) — Religion (= Faith; Islamic Monotheism; life-style; obedience; right religion; true Faith; recompense; way to live and of life
  • الۡقَيِّمَةِ — Quy-yay-mauh — Set up well (= Accurate, correct and straight direction from Allah.  Eternally applicable set of rules of everlasting value. Firm Commandments of lasting application.  Lasting.  The right books.  The straight laws. Well-established)

* Note 098:006. The concept of establishing the prayer and charitable giving to purify one’s earning has been repeated in the Holy Qr-aan several times including in the verses 002:044, 002:084, 002:111, 073:021 and 098:006 among others.
