The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                     111:001 to 006

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with a 6-digit number; the first three digits tell of Soorah (Chapter) and the last three digits tell of verse. Numbering includes بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏    as verse #1 in every Soorah except Soorah #9. The phonetic transliteration in English is based upon words commonly pronounced as bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, rut. An Arabic letter with the vowel Fatah is best shown with a‘u’ as in cut, hut, rut, but letter ‘a’ is often placed before ‘u’ to make it doubly sure that it is read as in cause, pause, clause and not with a sound of ‘oo’ as in hoot, root, shoot or put. All Arabic words are translated in American English and are followed by alternates which other translators have used.

Holy Qor-aan                                                 111:002                                            تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍ۬ وَتَبَّ

  • يَدَآ — Ya-daa — Both hands (= n., 2pl for two things (unique in Arabic). Two hands. Hand is the terminal part of a body where an arm ends. Refers to one’s front and back covered by powerful allies whom he can reach for help and succor. Both flanks strengthened by big mighty supporters)
  • أَبِى — Aa-bee — Father (= Master; owner; person with power over)
  • لَهَبٍ — La-ha-bin … (w) — Flames (= n., Blazes. Points to anger. Refers to the fiery temper and haughty enemies)

  • تَبَّ — Taub — Ruined (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Annihilated. Destroyed. Doomed. Perished. Totally failed)

** Note 111:002a. This verse is an historical account of an individual.  He had amassed a lot of wealth, muscle power and gathered supporters to covering his flanks.  He was an uncle of Holy Prophet s.a.w and his staunchest opponent and named Abee-Lahb.  Name Abee-Lahb is also a phrase which is comprised of two different, quite distinct words.  The first is أَبِى  which means the father, master, owner or person with power and control.  The second is لَهَبٍ  which literally means the flames and refers to the hot-tempered person.  The combination of these 2 words reflects a person who has a fiery temper and a short fuse.  Such men usually attract more of their kind around them and form gangs to reflect leaders.  His name portrayed his character.

** Note 111:002b. This verse provides an historical account about an individual who had a lot of muscle power and gathered many supporters covered his flanks. They all perished when they opposed the Messenger of God. A similar, total and utter ruin awaits those who oppose the work of God being pursued by those engaged in that. This is a rule of universal application.

Holy Qor-aan                                         111:003                                     مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُ ۥ وَمَا ڪَسَبَ

Did not avail him all that he owned and not (= nor) what he had earned

  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never; no; nor; not; not all; total negation. See Note 004:067)
  • أَغۡنَىٰ — Augh-naa — Did … avail (= v., past., s. 3rd person. Advantaged. Availed. Benefited. Enriched. Filled in all needs. Freed from all wants. Gifted with the greatest. Granted plenteously. Made independent. Turned self-sufficient)

** Note 111:003. The word  مَاۤ  has more than one meaning, including no, not all, never as well as all that, what, whatsoever as shown in Note 004:067. Much wider meanings spring up by seeing this word as a combination of two words. Firstly, مَاۤ (maa) meaning all that; whatever or whatsoever. Secondly,  لَ  (la) meaning belongs to, is owned by, is for the benefit, purpose or reason. But the word  مَالُ  (maa-lo) is different and means all that is owned, assets, belongings, benefits, connections, concessions, gains, money, property, richness, savings, wealth, etc.)

** Note 111:003a. There is a clear distinction between مَا لُهُ ۥ and  مَا ڪَسَب. The former means the assets, property, wealth and fortune a person may have inherited. The latter includes all that he may have himself earned and added to aforesaid inheritance. The moral is that whoso abuses his resources will see them wasted if not put to good use. This forecast for the future is a matter of universal application for the entire mankind.  Anything abused or misused will destroy the very abuser and misuser.
