The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                  007:127

 

وَمَا تَـنۡقِمُ مِنَّاۤ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ اٰمَنَّا بِاٰيٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَآءَتۡنَا‌ ؕ رَبَّنَاۤ اَفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡنَا صَبۡرًا وَّتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِيۡنَ

 

Wa  maa  taun-qay-mo  min-naa  il-laa
Aun  aa-maun-naa  bay  aa-yaa-tay
Rau-bay  naa  laum-maa  jaa-aut  naa
Raub-ba  naa  auf-righ  aa-lai  naa  saub-raun
Wa  ta-wauf-fa  naa  moos-lay-mee-n

 

And what! You take revenge from us for no reason except
That we believed in the signs of
Our God when they reached us?
We pray, “God of us all! Please spray on us persistence plenteously
And ordain our death in us being submissive.”

  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind of several articles, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘on,’ ‘with’ and ‘in’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; besides; except; excluding; nothing but; save;  unless. A/t/a, ‘only because,’ ‘simply because,’ ‘but because,’ ‘but that,’ ‘because’ and ‘forasmuch as’)
  • اَنۡ — Aun — That (= So that. The fact is that)
  • اٰمَنَّا — Aa-maun-na — We believed (= v., past., pl. 1st person. We have believed in the Holy. Qor-aan and accepted Iss-laam. Turned Moslem. A/t/a, ‘we believed’ and ‘we have believed’)
  • بِ — Bay — In (= The best translation of the word بِ is ‘with’ but some contexts may warrant its translation as ‘in’)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — Signs (= n., pl of an argument, command, code, corroboration, direction, evidence, indication, instruction, law, lesson, message, narrative, order, pointer, portent, proof, sign  suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘Signs,’ ‘tokens of,’ ‘messages of’ and ‘Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.)’
  • رَبِّ — Raub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002. A/t/a, ‘Lord’ and ‘His’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • لَمَّا — Laum-maa — When (= This combines two words. First word  لَ  (=la) means absolutely, certainly, positively, surely, truly or verily. The second word  ما (= maa) means any time, at such time, when and whenever)
  • جَآءَتۡ — Jaa-aut — Reached (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Arrived; came; had come; reached; returned. In different context the word means achieved, brought, delivered, settled or succeeded. A/t/a, they came to,’ ‘they reached,’ ‘they came unto,’ ‘they came to … (and we pray to Him)’ and ‘they were shown to’)
  • نَآ —  Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • رَبَّ — Raub-ba — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah. See  رَبِّ  above. A/t/a, ‘Lord’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • اَفۡرِغۡ — Auf-righ — Spray a lot (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Assign, award, bestow, give, grant, pour, provide, shower or spray like rain a lot, abundantly, generously and plenteously. Fill our hearts with A/t/a, ‘pour out,’ pour forth,’ ‘We pray to … Send down,’ ‘give us’ and ‘Vouchsafe’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Aa-lai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘on,’ upon’ and ‘unto’)
  • نَآ  — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • صَبۡرًا — Saub-raun … (wa) — Perseverance (= n., Ability to put up with and withstand the pressure. Consistency. Constancy. Determination. Diligence. Endurance. Importunity. Patience.  Persistence. Perseverance. Purposeful pursuits. Pursuance.  Steadfastness. Tirelessness. A/t/a, ‘steadfastness,’ ‘patience,’ ‘patience and constancy’ and ‘patience and perseverance’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • تَوَفَّ — Ta-wauf-faa — Ordain death (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Breathe our last. Bring, cause or ordain death. Depart. Send in transition. A/t/a, ‘take … souls to thee,’ ‘cause … to die,’ ‘make … die,’ ‘grant that … die’ and ‘let us die’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • مُسۡلِمِيۡن — Moos-lay-mee-n — Submissive (= n., pl., The believers. The worshippers surrendered to the will of God in dedication and devotion and so at peace. See Note 003:053 and Commentary Abraham was not an Idolater.
