The Doubt

The Doubt

The noun  رَيۡبَ  (rai-ba) means disbelief, distrust, doubt, dubious, grey area, hesitation, qualm, reservation, suspicion or uncertainty. It has been used for Revelations (002:024). It has also been used in the phrase لَا رَيۡبَ فِيۡه (laa rai-ba fee hay = No doubt in it) for the Holy Qor-aan (002:003) and the Day of Judgment (003:010, 003:026, 004:088, 006:013)

Some authors interpreted  رَيۡبَ  as absence of faith in the Holy Qor-aan. Most of them used British English to express their doubts, hesitations or various shades of its meanings.

Even Muslim authors have construed some contents of the Holy Qor-aan as inadequate (lacking info that had to be supplemented later by consensus of opinions), incomplete (alleging that its 10 Surah were not revealed to the Holy Prophet Mohammad, s.a.w) or overly extensive   (so that it had to be cut down or minimized by theories like Nasikh-Mansookh or Abrogation)

Recently I heard an Indian non-Moslem broadcaster criticize Islam saying as follows.

  1. Brailvees (Sunni sect of Islam) call Devbandees (another Sunni sec) the Infidels.
  2. Devbandees (Sunni sect of Islam) call Brailvees (another Sunni sect) the Infidels.
  3. Both Sunni Brailvees and Devbandees call Shiites (another sect of Islam) the infidels.
  4. All three Brailvees, Devbandees and Shiites call Ahmadis (Moslems) the infidels.

Telling lies is bad. Criminal codes of civilizations criminalized it. But Ameer Jamaat Islami Molana Modudi wrote in his 4-volume book that lying was permissible. Shiites rule of Taqiyyah sprinkles holy water on this evil. See commentary Islam 105 – Difference of Opinion.

Ahmadiyyah philosophy decries telling lies. Yet the Ameer of Lahore Asadullah Khan during a Friday sermon on a loudspeaker stated that lying was alright if praising God because man can never fully praise Him. Chaudhry Hameed settled in New York told Dr Safiullah of New Jersy and later affirmed to me in Willingboro how the higher-ups of Ahmadis lied prior to the Anti-Ahmadiyyah riots of 1974 in Pakistan. Later Justice Samdani in a Govt Inquiry by High Court called two righteous Ahmadi District and Session Judges (my father Ch Azam Ali and Ch Aziz Ahmad Bajwa) to prevail upon at least the Ahmadi witnesses to tell the truth.

A hadeeth of the Holy Prophet Mohammad, s.a.w., is reported to have said that in 14th Century after him there would be 72 groups who all would call themselves Moslems and yet a 73rd sect only would be on the right course. Today almost every Moslem calls his sect the 73rd going to the Paradise while labelling the adherents of all remaining 72 sects as hell-bound.

One example of  رَيۡبَ  (rai-ba) is the noun  رَافِعُ  (raa-fay-o) coming after the word   مُتَوَفِّيۡ (mo-ta-wauf-fee) and pronoun  كَ  (ka) in verse 003:056. These words plainly mean that God will bring death to Jesus (see Commentary Death And Adoration Of Jesus) raising his ranks, elevating his status or exalting his position. Doubt has been sown in this otherwise clear concept. Millions of Muslims believe that God physically lifted Jesus into Paradise alive.

Some Arabic words have 20 English equivalents. 2 such words in one verse can create 20×20 = 400 versions of the command in the verse. 3 such words can produce 800+ verbiages. Miscreants have insinuated ambiguity by using this linguistic richness as a source of Doubt.
