The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                  005:091

 

    يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِنَّمَا الۡخَمۡرُ وَالۡمَيۡسِرُ وَالۡاَنۡصَابُ وَالۡاَزۡلَامُ رِجۡسٌ مِّنۡ عَمَلِ الشَّيۡطٰنِ فَاجۡتَنِبُوۡهُ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُوۡنَ‏ 

 

Yaa  auy-yo-ha  ul-la-ze-na  aa-ma-noo  in-na  maa
Aul-khaum-ro  wa  ul-mai-say-ro  wa  ul-aun-saa-bo  wa  ul-auz-laa-mo
Rij-soon  min  aa-ma-lay  ish-shai-taa-nay
Fa  uj-ta-nay-boo  ho  la-aul-la  koom  toof-lay-hoo-n

 

Listen, you all who have believed! Surely all that                                                        Drinking, gambling, idolatry and lottery                                                                            Is impiety, an action of Satan.
Therefore, avoid that so you may prosper.

 

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha … (ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam. See Commentaries like Islam – 101Phrase Aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-may-loos … and Believe and Disbelieve that floodlight other aspects how the Holy Qor-aan has used this word. A/t/a, ‘Believers’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Surely (= Absolutely; clearly, decidedly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Most certainly’)
  • مَاۤ — Ma … (ul) — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
  • الۡخَمۡرُ — Aul-khaum-ro — Drinking (= n., Consuming any alcoholic beverage, anatoxin, liquor or wine. A/t/a, ‘strong drink,’ ‘Intoxicants’ and ‘Intoxicnts (all kinds of alcoholic drinks)’                                                           
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • الۡمَيۡسِرُ — Aul-mai-say-ro — Gambling (= n., Playing any game with money or its equivalent for a chance to win big although the organizer called The House is rigged to always win. A/t/a, ‘gambling,’ ‘games of chance’ and ‘game of hazard’)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • الۡاَنۡصَابُ — Aul-aun-saa-bo — Idolatry (= n., Worshipping dolls, idols, statutes or any man-made thing. Sone. A/t/a, ‘(Dedications of) stones,’ ‘(sacrificing to) stones,’ ‘idols,’  ‘alters set up for false deities,’ ‘idol worship’ and ‘Al-Ansab’)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • الۡاَزۡلَامُ — Auz-laa-mo — Arrows (= n., pl., Ref is to the pagan custom of drawing arrows to determine one’s luck; lottery. A/t/a, ‘(divination by) arrows,’ ‘(dividing by) arrows,’ ‘divining arrows,’ ‘Al-Azlam (arrows for luck or decision’ decision)’ and ‘fortune telling’)
  • رِجۡسٌ — Rij-soon … (m) — Impiety (= n., Bad. Dirty. Immoral. Impurity. Irreligious. Irreverent. Sinful. Unclean. Ungodly. See Note 005:091. A/t/a, ‘abomination,’ ‘an abomination,’ abominations,’ ‘uncleanliness’ and ‘infamy’)

  • عَمَلِ — Aa-ma-lay … (ish) — Work (= n., s., Act; action; deed, doing; effort; hard work;  performance, practice, rendition. A/t/a, ‘work,’ ‘handiwork’ and ‘devices.’ But a verb like ‘devised’ has not translated the noun in the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ — Shai-taa-nay — The Satan (= n., s., A bad, evil or false deity, friend, leader or Satanic companion. The devil. The Evil Embodiment. The evil One. The evil spirited person. The evil personified. Polytheist. Rebellious ringleader. Also, a hypocrite; an idol-worshipper, the insanity or satanic imbalance. A/t/a, ‘Satanic’ and ‘Satan’s’)
  • فَ  — Fa … (uj) — Therefore (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • اجۡتَنِبُوۡ  — Auj-ta-nay-boo — Avoid (= v., pres., pl., 2nd  person. Shun; stay away. A/t/a, ‘shun,’ ‘Eschew,’ leave … alone,’ ‘turn wholly away from,’ ‘shun,’ ‘avoid’ and ‘avoid (strictly all)’
  • هُ  — Ho — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd  person. Him. A/t/a, ’it,’  ‘such (abomination),’ ‘each one of them,’ ‘each one (of these abomination)’ and ‘them’)

  • لَعَلَّ  — La-aul-la — May (= Haply; hopefully; perchance; perhaps; possibly; maybe; wanting and wishing the result to be. A/t/a, ‘may,’ ‘that (abominations) in order that you may’ and ‘so that … may’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You men. The Holy Qor-aan has addressed men and women jointly this way)
  • تُفۡلِحُوۡنَ — Toof-lay-hoo-n — Prosper (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Be victorious; grow; succeed; triumph; win. A/t/a, ‘ye … prosper,’ ‘you … prosper,’ ‘you … succeed,’ ‘ye … succeed,’ ‘you … attain your goal’ and ‘be successful’)

 

Note 005:091. The word  رِجۡسٌ  (rij-soon) has many meanings including those given above and the following.

  1. The prayer رَبّ آذْهِبِْ  عَنِّى  الرِجْسَ  وَ   طَهِّرْنِئ  تَطْهِئرا  means that God!, Please take away from me the filth and cleanse me a thorough cleansing.
  2. Any contamination of any kind.
  3. Anything contagion, indecent, offensive, pollution or repulsive.
  4. Any matter that is filthy, grimy, messy, mucky, rubbish, refuse, smutty, soiled or waste.

  لَا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللّٰهُ بِاللَّغۡوِ فِىۡۤ اَيۡمَانِكُمۡ وَلٰـكِنۡ يُّؤَاخِذُكُمۡ بِمَا عَقَّدْتُّمُ الۡاَيۡمَانَ‌ ۚ  فَكَفَّارَتُهٗۤ اِطۡعَامُ عَشَرَةِ مَسٰكِيۡنَ مِنۡ اَوۡسَطِ مَا تُطۡعِمُوۡنَ اَهۡلِيۡكُمۡ اَوۡ كِسۡوَتُهُمۡ اَوۡ تَحۡرِيۡرُ رَقَبَةٍ‌ ؕ  فَمَنۡ لَّمۡ يَجِدۡ فَصِيَامُ ثَلٰثَةِ اَيَّامٍ‌ ؕ  ذٰ لِكَ كَفَّارَةُ اَيۡمَانِكُمۡ اِذَا حَلَفۡتُمۡ‌ ؕ  وَاحۡفَظُوۡۤا اَيۡمَانَكُمۡ‌ ؕ  كَذٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللّٰهُ لَـكُمۡ اٰيٰتِهٖ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُوۡنَ‏ 

 

Laa-yo-aa-khay-zo-ko-mool-laa-ho-bil-lugh-way-fee-aiy-maa-nay-koom                             Wa-laa-kin-yo-khay-zo-koom-bay-maa-uq-qud-to-mool-aiy-maa-na

Fa-kuf-faa-ra-to-hoo-it-aa-mo-ush-ra-tin-ma-saa-kee-na                                                        Min-auo-sa-tay-maa-toot-aiy-moo-na-ah-lee-koom                                                                  Auo-kis-wa-to-hoom-auo-tah-re-ro-ra-qa-ba-tin                                                                          Fa-mun-lum-ya-jid-fa-say-yaa-mo-tha-laa-tha-tay-auy-yaa-min

Zaa-lay-ka-kuf-faa-ra-to-aiy-maa-nay-koom-ezaa-ha-luf-toom                                              Wah-fa-zoo-aiy-maa-na-koom                                                                                                        Ka-zaa-lay-ka-yo-buy-yay-nool-laa-ho-la-koom-aa-yaa-tay-he                                                La-ul-la-koom-taush-ko-roo-n

 

Allah does not catch you for the silly talks in your oaths                                            But He will take you to account for what you affirmed with the oaths.

So, its expiation is feeding ten poor people                                                                      From the average what you are feeding your families                                                   Or clothing them, or freeing a neck,                                                                                    And whoever can’t find, then fasting is for three days.

This is the expiation for your oaths when you have sworn.                                          And protect your oaths.                                                                                                          This is how Allah makes clear for you His signs                                                            So that you can be grateful.

 

  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘will not’)
  • يُؤَاخِذُ — Yo-aa-khay-zo — Catch (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Grasp; seize; take to account. A/t/a, ‘call … to account,’ ‘take … to task,’ ‘charge’  and ‘punish’)
  • كُمُ — Ko-mo … (ol) — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan   has addressed men and women jointly this way. A/t/a, ‘ye’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بِ — B … (il) — With (= Literally the word بِ means with. A/t/a, ‘such as are’)
  • للَّغۡوِ — Lugh-way — Silly talks (= n., s. Dirty, evil, false, foolish, foul, idle and vain talk.  Meaningless, useless and unproductive conversation,  discourse or discussion on a frivolous topic. Oath taken as a brush-off, deceptively, insincerely, not intending to fulfill it. A/t/a, ‘vain,’ ‘that which is in vain,’ ‘what is Futile,’ ‘unintentional,’       ‘meaningless’ and ‘inadvertent’)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Amidst. Among. Contained or inside a duration, event, place, period, person, phenomenon, situation, thing or time. Also, about; concerning; in reference, regarding, relative to. See Note 002:028. May also be belonging to a kind or category, rank or person, thing or situation. A/t/a, ‘for such … as are’)
  • اَيۡمَانِ — Aiy-maa-nay — Oaths (= n., Affirmation; behest of Faith; belief; oath; solemn  declaration; total confidence; trust. A/t/a, pledge; promise; vow. Also, a swear when NOT used as a word of a bad language, blaspheme, curse or cuss. A/t/a, ‘oaths’ and      ‘oaths … swear’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  كُمُ  above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet)
  • يُؤَاخِذُ  — Yo-aa-khay-zo — Take to account (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Catch; grasp; seize. See يُؤَاخِذُ  above. A/t/a, ‘will call … to account,’ ‘take … to task,’ ‘will take … to task for breaking,’ ‘will charge’ and ‘will punish’)

  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because (= Combination of two words. بِ  means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ  means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with / in all that. A/t/a, ‘for’ and ‘which’)
  • عَقَّدْتُّ — Uq-qud-t … (oom) — Affirmed (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Agreed; bound; firmed up; pledged. declared; promised; solemnly undertook; tied. A/t/a, ‘have taken in earnest.’  But ‘the making of deliberate,’ ‘ye swear in earnest,’ ‘you take in earnest,’ ‘for breaking … by which you bind yourself,’ ‘for breaking) … which you take in earnest (for doing a thing or not doing it’ and ‘solemnly swear’ which are verbs in the present tense – and ‘deliberate’ which is a noun — are no translations of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in a verb in the past tense

  • كَفَّارَتُ — Kuf-faa-ra-to — Expiation (= n., Compensation; penance; recompence;   reparation. Also, atonement; exchange; forgiveness. A/t/a, ‘penalty’)

  • اِطۡعَامُ — It-aa-mo — Feeding (= n., Serving food or meal. But ‘To feed’ or ‘feed’ as a verb is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • عَشَرَةِ — Ush-ra-tay — Ten (= The number ‘10’)
  • مَسٰكِيۡنَ — Ma-saa-kee-na — Poor people (= Homeless; indigent; needy; paupers. A/t/a, ‘indigent persons,’ ‘poor men,’ ‘poor persons,’ ‘needy persons,’ ‘needy men’ and                ‘Masakin (poor person)’

  • اَهۡلِيۡ — Ah-lee — Families (= n., pl.,  Family members consisting of wife and children. A/t/a, ‘families,’ ‘own folk,’ ‘yourselves’ and ‘own people’)

  • رَقَبَةٍ‌ — Ra-qa-ba-tin — A neck (= n., Captive. Bondage like a debt, disease or disability. Halter around a human’s neck indicating he was owned as slave by another person.   • صِيَامُ ‌– Say-yaa-mo — Fasting (= n., Voluntary abstaining from eating and drinking. A/t/a, ‘fast,’ ‘should fast,’ ‘shall fast’ as a verb does not translate what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • ثَلٰثَةِ — Tha-laa-tha-tay — Three (= n., The numerical number ‘3’)
  • اَيَّامٍ — Auy-yaa-min — Days (= n., pl., A period of twenty-four hours)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘This is,’ ‘That is’ and ‘In this way’)
  • كَفَّارَةُ — Kuf-faa-ra-to — Expiation (= n., Compensation; recompence. See  كَفَّارَتُ  above. A/t/a, ‘how you expiate,’ ‘you shall expiate’ and ‘expiation’)
  • اَيۡمَانِ — Aiy-maa-nay — Oaths (= n., Solemn affirmation. See  اَيۡمَانِ  above. A/y/a, ‘broken oaths’)

  • حَلَفۡ — Ha-luf — Have sworn (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Openly taken oath. A/t/a, ‘have  sworn,’ ‘have sworn them solemnly (and then break them)’ and ‘broken oaths.’ But a translation in the present tense such as ‘you swear’ is not of what the Holy Qor-aan in the past tense)

  • يُبَيِّنُ — Yo-buy-yay-no(l) — Explains (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Clarifies; clearly states; elaborates; espouses; expounds; informs; makes things crystal clear, obvious, plain and known well; sets limits for permissible activity. A/t/a, ‘doth … make clear,’ ‘does … make clear,’ ‘makes clear,’ ‘does … explain,’ ‘makes plain, ‘expoundeth’ and  does expound’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty Allah)
  • لَعَلَّ — La-ul-la — So that (= Haply; hopefully; perchance; perhaps; possibly; hope and wish; maybe; wanting and wishing the result to be. A/t/a, ‘may,’ ‘in order that … may,’ ‘that … may,’ ‘so that… may’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  كُمُ above)
  • تَشۡكُرُوۡنَ‏ — Taush-ko-roo-n — You be grateful (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Acknowledge with asserted, repeated, insistent and tremendous feelings of being grateful. Appreciate. Express gratitude. Render thanks. Give recognition. The word tells to keep in mind the two important factors that invoke deep appreciation, a) the physical facility or concessions that are given and b) the spiritual benefits that are continually bestowed. Both these factors are so intertwined that nobody really can hold one of them above the other. A/t/a, ‘give thanks,’ ‘give (Him) thanks’ and ‘be grateful’)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                             005:089

 

 وَكُلُوۡا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ حَلٰلًا طَيِّبًا وَّ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ الَّذِىۡۤ اَنۡـتُمۡ بِهٖ مُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ ‌

 

Wa-ko-loo-mim-maa-ra-za-qa-ko-mool-laa-ho-ha-laa-lun-toy-yay-bun                                Wut-ta-qool-laa-hul-la-zee-un-toom-bay-he-moe-may-noo-n

 

And you eat out of what Allah has provided for you, lawfully, cleanly.                  And you should love Allah in Whom you surely are the believers.

  • طَيِّبًا — Toy-yay-bun — Cleanly (= adv., In the form of a thing being طَيِّب which is singular  for the plural  طَيِّبٰتِ as explained in verse 002:058. A/t/a, ‘wholesome things,’ ‘good and pure’ and ‘good’)

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Wut-ta-qool-laa-ha … in many contexts

  • وَ — Wa … (ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ   above)
  • اتَّقُوا — Ta-qoo … (la) — You love (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Act piously and avoid angering Allah by being deeply in love with Him; be afraid, pious or righteous. يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تُحَرِّمُوۡا طَيِّبٰتِ مَاۤ اَحَلَّ اللّٰهُ لَـكُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡتَدُوۡا‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الۡمُعۡتَدِيۡنَ‏

 

Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo                                                                                                Laa-to-hur-ray-moo-toy-yay-baa-tay                                                                                          Maa-aa-hul-lul-laa-ho-la-koom-wa-laa-tau-ta-doo                                                                      In-nul-laa-ha-laa-yo-hib-bool-moe-ta-dee-n

 

Listen, you all who have believed!                                                                                          Do not prohibit the clean portions of good things                                                          Which Allah has made lawful for you and do not cross the line.                            Surely Allah does not love those who cross the line.

 

 The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)

  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam. See Commentaries Phrase Aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-may-loos … and Believe and Disbelieve that floodlight other aspects how the Holy Qor-aan has used this word. Any translation in the present tense such as ‘believe’ or as a noun such as ‘Believers’ is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in the past tense)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation)

 وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا وَكَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَاۤ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡجَحِيۡمِ‏

 

Wul-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo-wa-kuz-za-boo-bay-aa-yaa-tay-naa                                                  Olaa-aiy-ka-us-haa-bool-ja-hee-m

 

And those who disbelieved and belied our signs                                                              All are inmates of the Hell.

 فَاَثَابَهُمُ اللّٰهُ بِمَا قَالُوۡا جَنّٰتٍ تَجۡرِىۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِهَا الۡاَنۡهٰرُ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَا‌ ؕ وَذٰ لِكَ جَزَآءُ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ

 

Fa-aa-thaa-ba-ho-mool-laa-ho-bay-maa-qaa-loo                                                                          Jun-naa-tin-tuj-ree-min-tah-tay-hul-un-haa-ro-khaa-lay-de-na-fee-haa                                Wa-zaa-lay-ka-ja-zaa-ool-moh-say-nee-n

 

So Allah reached them for what they said with                                                  Gardens beneath which rivers flow, dwellers there forever.                                      And that is the reward for the Do-gooders.

Benevolent. Philanthropic. Righteous. Self-sacrificing. Unselfish. Some authors narrowed the word to mean a Moslem. وَمَا لَـنَا لَا نُؤۡمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَمَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ الۡحَـقِّۙ وَنَطۡمَعُ اَنۡ يُّدۡخِلَـنَا رَبُّنَا مَعَ الۡقَوۡمِ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-maa-la-naa-laa-noe-may-no-bil-laa-hay-wa-maa-jaa-aa-nul-huq-quay                        Wa-nut-ma-o-un-yood-khay-la-naa-rub-bo-naa-ma-ul-qao-mis-sua-lay-hee-n

 

And why won’t we believe Allah when the Truth has reached us                            And we are eager that our God enters us with the righteous people.

وَاِذَا سَمِعُوۡا مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَى الرَّسُوۡلِ تَرٰٓى اَعۡيُنَهُمۡ تَفِيۡضُ مِنَ الدَّمۡعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوۡا مِنَ الۡحَـقِّ‌ۚ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَاۤ اٰمَنَّا فَاكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ الشّٰهِدِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-ezaa-sa-may-oo-maa-oon-zay-la-elur-ra-soo-lay                                                               Ta-raa-au-yo-na-hoom-ta-fee-dzo-may-nud-dum-aiy                                                                Mim-maa-aa-ra-foo-may-nul-huq-quay                                                                                          Ya-qoo-loo-na-rub-ba-naa-aa-mun-naa                                                                                          Fuk-toob-naa-ma-ush-shaa-hay-dee-n

 

And when they heard what was entrusted to the Messenger                                      You saw their eyes shedding tears                                                                                        Because they recognized it as among the Truth.                                                          They say, “God of us all! We have believed.                                                                    So please record us along with the witnesses.

لَـتَجِدَنَّ اَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَدَاوَةً لِّـلَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوا الۡيَهُوۡدَ وَالَّذِيۡنَ اَشۡرَكُوۡا‌ ۚ وَلَـتَجِدَنَّ اَ قۡرَبَهُمۡ مَّوَدَّةً لِّـلَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوا الَّذِيۡنَ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا نَصٰرٰى‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ بِاَنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قِسِّيۡسِيۡنَ وَرُهۡبَانًا وَّاَنَّهُمۡ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُوۡنَ‏

 

La-ta-jay-dun-na-aa-shud-dun-naa-say-aa-daa-wa-ton                                                            Lil-la-zee-na-aa-ma-nool-ya-hoo-da-wul-la-zee-na-ush-ra-koo

Wa-la-ta-jay-dun-na-uq-ra-ba-hoom-ma-wud-da-ton                                                             Lil-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-qaa-loo-in-naa-na-saa-raa

Zaa-lay-ka-bay-un-na-min-hoom-quis-se-see-na-wa-roh-baa-nun                                          Wa-un-na-hoom-laa-yus-tuk-bay-roo-n

 

You certainly will find the stronger in enmity                                                                  For those who believed are the Jews and those who set up equals to God.

And you surely will find the nearest in love                                                                 For those who believed are those who said, “We surely are Christians.”

This is because among them are the savants and Monks                                              And because they do not act arrogantly

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender)

  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘this is’ and ‘That is’)
  • بِاَنَّ — Bay-un-na — Because (= This is a combination of two words. The first is  بِ  which means with. وَلَوۡ كَانُوۡا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالنَّبِىِّ وَمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡهِ مَا اتَّخَذُوۡهُمۡ اَوۡلِيَآءَ وَلٰـكِنَّ كَثِيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡ فٰسِقُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa-lao-kaa-noo-yoe-may-noo-na-bil-laa-hay                                                                              Wun-na-bee-yay-wa-maa-oon-zay-la-alai-hay                                                                              Maut-ta-kha-zoo-hoom-ao-lay-yaa-aa                                                                                             Wa-laa-kin-naa-ka-thee-run-min-hoom-faa-say-qoo-n

 

And if they had been believing in Allah                                                                                And the Prophet and what was entrusted to them                                                          They would not have taken them as the real friends.                                                  But many among them are miscreants.
