The Holy Qor-aan 003:150
يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِنۡ تُطِيۡعُوا الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا يَرُدُّوۡكُمۡ عَلٰٓى اَعۡقَابِكُمۡ فَتَـنۡقَلِبُوۡا خٰسِرِيۡنَ
Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo In-to-te-ool-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo Yo-rud-do-koom-alaa-aa-qaa-bay-koom Fa-ton-qa-lay-boo-kjaa-say-ree-n
Listen you all who believed, If you follow those who disbelieved They will turn you back on your heels. Thus you become losers.
The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times
- يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
- اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)

See Commentaries like Islam – 101, Phrase Aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-may-loos … and Believe and Disbelieve that floodlight other aspects how the Holy Qor-aan has used this word)
- اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)

- كَفَرُوۡا — Ka-fa-roo — Disbelieved (= v., past, pl., 3rd person. Denied, refused and rejected the Faith and belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islam and become Moslem. See the Note 002:007 for more meanings. The Holy Qor-aan has stated this fact in the past tense; so it is not accurate to translate the word in the present tense as ‘who disbelieve’)
- يَرُدُّ وۡ — Yo-rud-doo — Turn back (= v., pres., pl., Arbitrarily, compulsorily or forcibly made to betray, defect, desert, get out, recant, renounce, return, reverse, revert or turn back. **Note 003:150. Inconsistency is apparent in many translations of the Holy Qor-aan.
The verse 003:150 used the word اٰمَنُوۡا (Aa-ma-noo = have believed) and stated the fact in the past tense. Its translation in the present tense as ‘who believe’ is inaccurate [and, daz, mmk, mmp, mzk tda]
The verse 003:150 also used the word كَفَرُوۡا (Ka-fa-roo = have disbelieved) in the past tense. This time the same translator [mzk] correctly translated it, though inconsistently with his translation of another part of the same verse.
The verse 003:152 also used the word كَفَرُوۡا (Ka-fa-roo = have disbelieved’) in the past tense. Again the same translator correctly translated that.
The verse 003:152 used the word اَشۡرَكُوۡا (Ush-ra-koo = They associated) in past tense. But the same person [mzk] translated it inaccurately in the present tense as ‘they associate.’
His translation of the word كَفَرُوۡا (Ka-fa-roo = have disbelieved’) in the past tense in both verses 003:150 and 003:152 is correct. Do such correct translations mitigate other inaccuracies in his translations of the verses? At the very minimum the inconsistency colors the translations.
Another example is reproduced as follows.
“Note 003:152. Inconsistency in the translation [by mmk, tda] of the verse 003:152 is in total disregard of the text of the Holy Qor-aan.
- Correctly translated is the word سَنُلۡقِىۡ [Sa-nool-qee =We will cast] in the present tense for use in the present participle form.
- Incorrectly translated is the word كَفَرُوا [Ka-fa-ro = They disbelieved] in the present tense as ‘those who disbelieve.’
- Correctly translated is the word اَشۡرَكُوۡا[Ush-ra-koo = They ssociated] as ‘who joined others in the worship.’
- Incorrectly translated is the word يُنَزِّلۡ [Yo-nuz-zil = Is revealed] in the past tense as ‘had sent.’ “
Everyone cannot be fully aware of all intricacies of the entire language used in the Holy Qor-aan. It is easy to use an earlier translation as the base and make some changes here and there. Minimum knowledge of the language and its grammar by the original translator is a prerequisite.
Applying an independent mind can thwart earlier misunderstandings from perpetuating in subsequent works. Yet this site too may have unwittingly failed to filter out some inaccuracies.
In fact this phenomenon hits hard to anyone who sees the on-line criticisms of The Holy Qor-aan and Islam which almost always is based upon an inaccurate translation of the original. Our effort to count such ill-informed criticisms grew so large and so quickly that we finally gave it up. We condensed the said sad fact in a just aforesaid two-worded phrase almost always.

And how often a prophet retaliated And along with him were many devotees. And yet they never slackened for what struck them In the cause of Allah. And they did not show weakness. And they did not make excuses. And by God Allah loves the steadfast.
