خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَا ‌ۚ  لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ الۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ يُنۡظَرُوۡنَۙ‏

 

Khaa-lay-dee-na  fee  haa                                                                                                                      Laa  yo-khuf-fa-fo  un  ho-mo  ol-aa-zaa-bo                                                                                      Wa  laa  hoom  yoon-za-roo-n

 

They will live in it.                                                                                                            Punishment will not be reduced for them.                                                                          And they will not looked at kindly and mercifully.

 

Verse 002:163 and verse 003:089 have the same text

  • خٰلِدِيۡنَ — Khaa-lay-dee-na — Live (= Abide; dwell; reside; remain.  For significant variations in the meanings of this word, see Note 002:040)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Inside a duration, time, period, thing or place)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid ‘curse’ and ‘state of disapproval’)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; none; not at all; total negation)
  • يُخَفَّفُ — Yo-khuf-fa-fo — Will reduce (= v., pres., pass., s., m., 3rd person. Decrease, diminish, lessen, lighten, minimize or mitigate)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • الۡعَذَابُ — Aa-zaa-bo — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • يُنۡظَرُوۡنَ‏ — Yoon-za-roo-n — Get reprieved  (= v., pres., pass., pl., 3rd person. Here this verb is used relative to the Almighty God Who Alone does that with forgiveness, kindness and mercy — to allow another chance, give another opportunity, show consideration or grant respite . See Note 002:163)

 

Note 002:163. The root   ن ظ  ر  carries the meanings of seeing. Its many derivates have as many shades of meaning such as gazing, looking, observing, seeing, surveying, watching etc.

Relative to the Almighty Allah, the word looking is with forgiveness, kindness and mercy — to allow another chance, give another opportunity, show consideration or grant respite. Examples are 002:163 which has the same text as 003:089,  006:009.

Relative to man, the word looking, gazing, observing, seeing, surveying, watching or waiting for   something is like creating an impression of considering, contemplating, reflecting, realizing, thinking or taking notice. Examples are 002:211,  006:159,  007:054, 036:050

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               003:088

 

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ جَزَآؤُهُمۡ اَنَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ لَعۡنَةَ اللّٰهِ وَالۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ اَجۡمَعِيۡنَۙ‏

 

O-laa-aiy-ka-ja-zaa-o-hoom-un-na                                                                                                Alai-him-lau-na-tal-laa-hay                                                                                                                 Wul-ma-laa-aiy-ka-tay-wun-naa-say-uj-ma-een

 

They all shall have the consequence that                                                                           On them surely is the curse of Allah                                                                                     And the angels and the people altogether.

 

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — All of them (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things. Here the word refers to the disbelievers)
  • جَزَآؤُ — Ja-zaa-o — Punishment (= n., Penalty; punishment; retribution; sentence.  also, consequence, result or follow up since the word expresses disgust, criticism and condemnation for evil acts like those referred to in the verses  002:192004:094 and   078:027. For other meanings see the Note 004:094)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the wrongdoers mentioned in the previous verse)
  • اَ نَّ  — Un-na  — That surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the wrongdoers mentioned in the previous verse)
  • لَعۡنَةَ — Lau-na-ta..(ul) — Curse * (= n., Condemnation; deprivation of God’s mercy; doom; disapproval)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

  • الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ‌ — Ma-laa-aiy-ka-to — The angels (= pl., The immortal beings attendant upon God who execute God’s commands and do no wrong. A kind,  loving and lovable person)

  • النَّاسِ — Un-naa-say — The people (= Factions; folks, mankind, groups, men, nations or tribes. Human beings. All people regardless of color, creed, culture or country of origin)
  • اَجۡمَعِيۡنَ — Uj-ma-een — Altogether  *   (= All; all together; altogether; all of them; combined)

 

* Note 003:088. A broad and more appropriate is the translation as set above: The curse of Allah and the angels and the people altogether, or ‘All together‘ as M Zafrulla Khan and M Muhammad Ali put it, or ‘combined’ as M Pickhall put it.

However, a much narrower meaning appear in saying that ‘the curse of Allah, the angels, and all men; under it they shall abide forever”N J Dawood.

Superficially the difference between two translations appears very trivial but distinction in meanings is real. The translation of   اَجۡمَعِيۡنَ     (Uj-ma-een = Altogether or combined) covers all those stated in the verse, but its translation of ‘all men’ narrows it tremendously to only people.

Furthermore, the addition of the word ‘forever’ has conveyed a concept which is contrary to Islam as discussed under 002:040.

Such differences in translations are the first step of difference in opinion that many years and centuries — kings and kingdoms — later has almost always resulted in establishing new sects in Islam as shown in Commentaries titled as Sect Formation and Sect Recognition.

** Note 002:218a. Mullah coined the theory that when a Moslem renounced Islam he must be put to death immediately. An instantaneous public lynching of anyone who recanted Islam to enter another Faith even before the State took action is a part of the Moslem history.

Common sense dictates that if a person merits execution for leaving Islam, the adherents of other Faiths have equal right to kill anyone who leaves their religion to enter Islam. That will end the evangelical spread of Islam by conversions which almost every Moslem believes.

A State-enforced death penalty for renouncing Islam is contrary to several provisions of the Holy Qor-aan. Freedom of religion and worship is a part of Islam. There is no compulsion in the matters of religion (002:257). Anyone can pursue any religion he deems fit (109:003 to 007).

God’s will established by verses 002:218, 003:087 to 003:092, and 003:107 categorically contradicts Mullah’s Modifications that entail death penalty for renouncing Islam. Those who abandon Islam suffer other after-effects mentioned in aforesaid verses. But Islam definitely does not mandate or even allow the execution of a convert from Islam to any other religion as a death penalty enforced by the State or public-lynching by the vigilantes.

The irresponsible, irreligious and inhumane Mullah’s Modification of Islam in the form of a death penalty for exiting Islam is one humongous misrepresentation of Islam.

كَيۡفَ يَهۡدِى اللّٰهُ قَوۡمًا كَفَرُوۡا بَعۡدَ اِيۡمَانِهِمۡ وَشَهِدُوۡۤا اَنَّ الرَّسُوۡلَ حَقٌّ وَّجَآءَهُمُ الۡبَيِّنٰتُ‌ؕ  وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَهۡدِى الۡقَوۡمَ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ‏

 

Kai-fa-yuh-dil-laa-ho-qao-mun                                                                                                          Ka-fa-roo-bau-da-ee-maa-nay-him                                                                                                Wa-sha-hay-do-un-nur-ra-soo-la-huq-qoon                                                                                Wa-jaa-aa-ho-mool-buy-yay-naa-to                                                                                            Wul-laa-ho-laa-yuh-dil-qao-muz-zaa-lay-mee-n.

           

How could Allah guide the people who                                                                        Disbelieved after their belief                                                                                                   And had seen the absolutely right Messenger                                                                   And clear signs that came to them?                                                                                        And by God Allah guides not the wrongdoers.

The next seven words are repeated both in 003:087 and 062:006

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj.,  that links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يَهۡدِىۡ — Yuh-de..(il) — Guides (= v., pres., Coddles on correct course; direct accurately  towards the best way; gives the best direction; leads on linier lines; puts on proper path; shows the right road)
  • الۡقَوۡمَ — Qao-ma…(uz) — People (= n., s., Addressees; attendees; fellows; followers; folks;  nation)
  • الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ‏ — Zaa-lay-mee-n — Wrongdoers (= n., pl., Bad. Criminals. Culprits. Doers of harm, hurt or injury. Evil-doers. Polytheists. Transgressors. Those who habitually cause, commit, do, practice, pursue or repeat evil or wrong. Unfair. Unjust. Violators. Wicked. ‘Who cannot discriminate between right and wrong’ – Allamah Nooruddin)

 

* Note. 003:087. The question in this verse is based upon three factual situations which some people have experienced.

  1. They disbelieved after their disbelief.
  2. They saw the absolutely right messenger.
  3. They witnessed clear signs that came to them

The question then asked is — based upon how human beings conduct with each other — how could, should or would Allah put on proper path such persistent wrongdoers?

The answer to the question is then presented in the next verse (003:088) and thoroughly explained in verses 003:089 to 003:092 and 002:218. Translations With Different Words

 

The Holy Qor-aan has an unchanged text. To understand it the Words Matter. Its Translation with Different Words makes a huge difference in what those words actually mean and convey.

 

The Almighty God has guaranteed a better comprehension of the Holy Qor-aan to anyone who studies it. It is one sure way to understand His message better, fuller. There is no substitute for it.

 

At places the Holy Qor-aan conveys similar message by using two different words [003:082].

  • The word نَّبِيّٖ — from the root   ن ب ا  which means to inform or introduce a new news — refers to a person who has been set up by the Almighty God to give the Mankind some information or news that the people did not know before.
  • The word رَسُوۡلٌ — from the root ر  س  ل which means to send a message or messenger — refers to a person who has been sent by the Almighty God to give the Mankind some information or news that the people did not know before.
  • Both the words also appear in one verse [003:082].They have been translated variously as Apostle, Messenger; Prophet, Saint and Sage.

 

At places the Holy Qor-aan provides guidance for different situations by using the same word or set of words [002:039, 006:165]. The Note 002:028 shows how the translation of just one word فِىۡ  as ‘in, inside and/or on’ changes the scope and the breadth of the original message.

 

At places the Holy Qor-aan has used phrases and colloquial expressions. The message in such combination of words changes, often grossly twisted, if an individual word is translated literally. Some authors justified their different translations by means of capitalizing or hyphenating the same set of words such as shown in 064:007.

 

Then some translators have used different words to express that they in their own minds thought was stated or intended to be the message in its text. One example is 003:162 where practically no two translators have used the same words to describe the phenomenon Divines Don’t Defraud.

 

Note 002:063 shows examples of how some authors assigned different meanings to the original text by using numerous words of their own choice. Our Commentaries regarding the translations by Making Additions and Making Subtractions amplify this phenomenon further.

 

And another very common practice is the use of he-said-you-said-I-said technique. That way the talkers’ views invariably indoctrinate the hearer. It is so very easy to just sit and hear. The visible recognition by the length of such association provides worldly benefits to both givers and takers. Our Commentary Mullah’s Modifications of Islam tell-tale this aspect

 

Our commentaries like Sect Formation and Sect Recognition highlight how so many different schools of thought have mushroomed in Islam. It all starts and ends with the choice of words.

MULLAH’S Modifications are NOT the True Teachings of Islam

 

If there is one word to describe what has damaged the name and reputation of Islam the most, the answer is Mullah. No wonder the Holy Prophet s.a.w had himself labeled those of the 14th century as the Worst Of The Creatures. It is practically impossible to summarize the humongous damage that Mullah has done to Islam as its Clergy.

 

 

  • The fact that the Holy Prophet a.w became the Best Exemplar although he attended no school enabled Mullah to promote illiteracy among Moslems, steer ignorant adherents to follow him blindly, and install himself as the custodian of Islam. With the theories such as Abrogation he expelled out of Islam the verses of the Holy Qor-aan that he was unable to explain to inquisitive mind, the Commands and Prohibitions he did not like. He labeled some verses as the Nasihk (Canceller) and the others as Munsukh (Cancelled). The issue was judicially examined by the West Pakistan High Court that highlighted it as follows.

“Generally accepted view is that (9:5) abrogated the earlier verses revealed in Mecca which permitted the killing of kuffar only in self defense. As against this the Ahmadis believe that no verse of the Qur’an was abrogated by another verse … that both sets of verses have different scopes and can stand together … that the doctrine of Nasikh and Munsukh is opposed to the belief in the existence of an original scripture” (pp 223-224). http://trueteachingsofislam.com/abrogation-theory/.

 

  • Mullah started the process of coining, fabricating and minting newer theories very early in Islam. Some were genuine that laid foundation for an honest academic extrapolation like Ijtehaad.   • Mullah’s fabrications were largely created by the likes of Abdullah ibn Saba. Allegedly of Jewish origin he had preceded his conversion to Islam by saying that he would sow such seeds of dissent that Moslems would never again get together as a single body that he thought had destroyed his ancestry in Madina.   • The basic Moslem worships commonly known as 5-Pillars of Islam are (1) professing God’ Unity every moment one lived, (2) praying in congregations five times every day, (3) properly fasting for a month every year, (4) performing pilgrimage once in life time, and (5) purifying earnings by paying a part thereof whenever they were made whether daily, weekly, monthly or seasonally like at harvest time. These are personal acts done by man to please his God. Realizing that few Moslems would totally deny them as worships, Mullah did the next thing he could do. He professed, preached and propagated until he succeeded in twisting these worships into state-enforced obligations.   • A Moslem proposed Abu Bakr, r.u., after the Holy Prophet Mohammed a.w had passed away on June 8, 632 AD as the first Khaleefah. Those present took the oath of allegiance, the baiyah and caliphate (Khelaafut) started. Later the kings of the Omuyyah dynasty and then the Abasite dynasty took on the title Khaleefa. Mullah obliged the kings by clothing their Kheelafut with the Divinity (as if Appointed By God For Life). Then he sprinkled holy water on the Law of Primogeniture to pass the Kheelafut or Kinghood to the oldest of the sons. And he has continued strengthening the Caliphate with other rule-making powers including the setting up of Electoral College and the qualifications of Electors.   • The ISIS in Iraq is hardly practicing Islam. Its ruling junta is trying to secure for itself the former glories of Moslem kings from Spain to the Far East and all that lay in the middle. A scholarly physician recently said that Khaleefah’s election greatly resembled that of a Pope by Christian Cardinals and Archbishops. Indeed “There was no fixed process for papal selection before 1059” … when “popes were often selected with substantial secular involvement” … until “the promulgation of In nomine Domini (1059)” when the suffrage was limited to the College of Cardinals. “Papal elections since 1276” … follow a set of rules and procedures developed in Ubi periculum (1274)” – (Wickipedia).

 

 

  • Mullah’s Modifications entail death penalty for renouncing Islam. History has a record of Mullah-decrees (Futwas) inciting murders of Moslems who changed faith. The victim was often killed by instantaneous public lynching even before the State moved. Common sense is that if a person merits execution for leaving Islam, then adherents of other faiths have equal right to kill one who leaves their Faith to enter Islam. Mullah has contradicted several provisions of the Holy Qor-aan relative to the freedom of worship. Islam imposes no compulsion in the matters of religion (002:257).   • Mullah’s Modifications include substantial differences in the translations of the Holy Qor-aan. One example is the translation of two words مُتَوَفِّيۡ and رَافِعُ (003:056). The issue funneled in such translations channeled into strong opinions. It has split the world of Islam with the issue of Wafaat-e-Massih or the Death of Jesus on the cross. It has caused the murders of untold number of Moslems by Moslems in past several centuries. Some translators also contributed to it inadvertently because they were foreigners to the Arabic and only edited earlier translations in the European languages. وَمَنۡ يَّبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ الۡاِسۡلَامِ دِيۡنًا فَلَنۡ يُّقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ‌ ۚ وَهُوَ فِى الۡاٰخِرَةِ مِنَ الۡخٰسِرِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-mun-yub-tugh-ghai-rul-iss-laa-may-de-nun                                                                        Fa-lun-yooq-ba-la-min-ho                                                                                                               Wa-ho-wa-fil-aa-khay-ra-tay-may-nul-kha-say-ree-n

 

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam                                                               Then it won’t be accepted from him.                                                                                     And he in the Hereafter will be among the losers.

اَفَغَيۡرَ دِيۡنِ اللّٰهِ يَبۡغُوۡنَ وَلَهٗۤ اَسۡلَمَ مَنۡ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ طَوۡعًا وَّكَرۡهًا وَّاِلَيۡهِ يُرۡجَعُوۡنَ

 

Aa-fa-ghai-ra-de-nil-laa-hay-yub-ghoo-na                                                                                    Wa-la-hoo-us-la-ma-mun-fis-sa-maa-waa-tay-wul-ur-dzay                                                     Tao-un-wa-kur-hun-wa-elai-hay-yoor-ja-oon

 

Do they then seek other than the religion of Allah                                                      And submitted to Him is whoever is in heaven or earth                                             Willingly or unwillingly and to Him they will be returned.

 

  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like  Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will?)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= As a result; consequently; hence; so; then; thereafter; therefore. A/t/a After all this; at the end; in the final analysis; in conclusion)
  • غَيۡرَ — Ghai-ra — Other than (= Besides; else; excluding; not; out of; without)
  • دِيۡنِ — Dee-nay…(il) — Religion (= The best way to live obeying God’s divine rules. Life  style. The true Faith. The right religion. Also, The end; The Judgment Day. The last day of conclusion, recompense or requital. The day after the Faith is established
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • يَبۡغُوۡنَ — Yub-ghoo-na — They seek (= Aspire; attempt; desire; pursue; try; want; wish)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon.  A/t/a, while all others have)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the attention, benefit, convenience, determination, object, general convenience or purpose; to; towards. Also, concerning, regarding; relative to; intended for)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • اَسۡلَمَ — Us-la-ma — Submitted (= v., past., Became docile; became completely and totally obedient and subservient; bowed to the will of God; come to peace; engaged in carrying out and doing as told; entered subservience; surrendered)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; who; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • فِى — F…(iss) — In (= Amidst or contained inside a duration, event, time, period, place, thing or situation. Also, concerning; in reference; for the sake of; regarding; relative to)
  • السَّمٰوٰتِ — Sa-maa-waa-tay — The heavens (= pl., Firmament; heavens. All above ground or earth and in the space above. Knowledge of the astronomical objects and geographical heights; A/t/a clouds, rains or universe)
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ul-ur-dzay — The earth (=1. Area; country; earth; ground; land; soil; territory.  2.  Life on earth. 3. Nation; people or society in general)
  • طَوۡعًا — Tao-un — Willingly (= Happily; of their own accord; of their own sweet will)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • كَرۡهًا — Kur-hun — Unwillingly (= By force; under coercion or compulsion; unhappily)

  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                      003:083

 

فَمَنۡ تَوَلّٰى بَعۡدَ ذٰ لِكَ فَاُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡفٰسِقُوۡنَ

 

Fa-mun-ta-wul-laa-bau-da-zaa-lay-ka-wa-olaa-aiy-kay-ho-mool-faa-say-qoon

 

So whoever turned away after this, then they all are the Miscreants

 

  • فَ — Fa –So (= As a result; consequently; hence; so; then; thereafter; therefore; yet. A/t/a After all this; at the end; in the final analysis; in conclusion)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; who; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • تَوَلّٰى — Ta-wul-laa — Turned away (= past., s., Broke agreement, compact, covenant or pact. Changed or went in a different or opposite direction. Departed or deviated from the right path. Paid or gave no heed. Rebelled. Reversed. Slid back. Took wrong road. Turn his back. Also, acted adversely; ignored or compromised the truth; transgressed)
  • بَعۡدَ — Bau-da — After (= Afterwards; subsequent to; succeeding generations)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it was because; right here; such is this; that is how it is
  • فَ  — Fa — Then (= As a result; consequently; hence; so; then; thereafter; therefore;  yet. A/t/a After all this; at the end; in the final analysis; in conclusion)
  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — They all (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol)  — They (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the aforesaid persons)
  • الۡفٰسِقُوۡنَ‏ — Faa-say-qoo-n — Miscreants (= n., pl., Who have misbelief or false religious faith. Who practice bad, abomination and contemptible   ways that are loathed by and frowned upon. See Note 003:083 below)

 

** Note 03:083. The words  الۡفٰسِقُوۡنَ‏  and   الۡفٰسِقِيۡنَ   include the meanings of those who are also villains, disobedient, evildoers, lowlifes, malefactors, mischief-mongers, miscreants, rebels, reprobate, wayward, transgressors, troublemakers, wrongdoers as well as criminals, dishonest, impious, malicious offenders and scoundrels who forsake the right road to God.

وَاِذۡ اَخَذَ اللّٰهُ مِيۡثَاقَ النَّبِيّٖنَ لَمَاۤ اٰتَيۡتُكُمۡ مِّنۡ كِتٰبٍ وَّحِكۡمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَـتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهٖ وَلَـتَـنۡصُرُنَّهٗ ‌ؕ  قَالَ ءَاَقۡرَرۡتُمۡ وَاَخَذۡ تُمۡ عَلٰى ذٰ لِكُمۡ اِصۡرِىۡ‌ؕ  قَالُوۡۤا اَقۡرَرۡنَا ‌ؕ  قَالَ فَاشۡهَدُوۡا وَاَنَا مَعَكُمۡ مِّنَ الشّٰهِدِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-iz-aa-kha-zul-laa-ho-me-thaa-qun-na-be-ye-na                                                                     La-maa-aa-tai-to-koom-min-kay-taa-bin-wa-hik-ma-tin                                                         Thoom-ma-jaa-aa-koom-ra-soo-loon                                                                                               Mo-sud-day-qoon-lay-maa-ma-aa-koom                                                                                        La-toe-may-noon-na-bay-he-wa-la-tun-so-roon-na-hoo                                                              Qaa-la-aa-uq-rur-toom                                                                                                                    Wa-aa-khuz-toom-alaa-zaa-lay-koom-iss-re                                                                                   Qaa-la-aa-uq-rur-naa                                                                                                                           Qaa-la-fush-ha-do-wa-aa-na                                                                                                        Ma-aa-koom-may-nush-sha-hay-dee-n

 

And when Allah took the Prophets’ Pledge.                                                                  “Surely when We gave you from the Book and the wisdom                                         Then came to you a Messenger                                                                                                An attester for what was already with you                                                                         You surely would believe him and support him.”                                                      He (Allah) asked, “Do you promise                                                                                        And take My Covenant as binding on you.”                                                                         They (Believers) said, “We promise.”                                                                                 He (Allah) said, “So be a witness and I am                                                                    Along with you among the witnesses.”

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; behold; call to mind; consider; ponder over; recall; reflect, remember; think of the event, occasion, opportunity or time; whenever)
  • اَخَذَ — Aa-kha-za..(ul) — Took (= v., past., s., 3rd person. The meanings of this word also include its following different shades. (1) Absorbed; caught; comprehended; confirmed; drew; firmed up; grasped; obtained; received; took; understood. (2) Caused; destroyed; hit; led; made; overpowered; pounded; punished; smote. (3) Arrested; bound; detained; grabbed; held; overtook; seized; secured)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مِيۡثَاقَ  — Me-thaa-qa..(un) — Pledge (= n.,  (= n., An arrangement, assurance, promise or undertaking made unilaterally (by-one-side) vouching that its maker will always honor it. For an arrangement or agreement between 2-or-more-parties, see Note 003:188. A/t/a, ‘Made a covenant through the prophets’ and ‘Allah took from their people, through the Prophets, a firm covenant’)
  • النَّبِيّٖنَ — Na-be-ye-na — Prophets (= n., pl., GOD’s messengers who receive revelations from Him and tell them to people as a new thing or news. See Commentary titled ‘Translations with Different words‘)
  • لَ — La — Surely (= Certainly; definitely; positively; truly; verily)
  • مَا — Maa  — When (= All that; any time; whatever; whatsoever; whenever)
  • اٰتَيۡ — Aa-tai– Gave (= v. s., Awarded; bestowed; blessed; conferred; gave; delivered; entrusted; equipped; gifted; granted; handed down; presented; revealed. Also, enabled you to embrace the blessing of Islam; vouchsafed)
  • تُ  —  To — We (= pro., s., m., 1st person. I or We)
  • كُمۡ  — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . The Holy Qor-aan states that way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • مِنۡ — Min  — From (= Among the class, category, count, kind or several articles or things)
  • كِتٰبٍ — Kay-taa-bin — The Book (= 1. The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions, Rules and Regulations. Holy Scripture. Perfect Book. Testament that holds good and is operative eternally. Decreed part of a religion. Spiritual Code codifying the rules of universal application. 2. The Collection of mandated, ordered, prescribed, preserved, recorded, written Do’s and Don’ts.  3.   • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever; which; whichever)

* Note 003:082. Commentary titled ‘Translations with Different words’ shows how some authors have used different words to translate the text of the Holy Qor-aan. Also, it shows how the Holy Qor-aan has given a similar message with the different words in the following example

The word نَّبِيّٖ — from the rootن ب ا   which means to inform or give a new news — refers to a person who has been set up by the Almighty God to give mankind the news or information they did not know before.

The word رَسُوۡلٌ — from the root  ر    س   ل  which means to depute, dispatch or send — refers to a person who has been sent by the Almighty God to give mankind the news or information they did not know before.

Both these words have been used in this one verse. Both these words have been translated as the Messenger an Apostle, Messenger; Prophet, Saint and Sage.

وَلَا يَاۡمُرَكُمۡ اَنۡ تَتَّخِذُوا الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةَ وَالنَّبِيّٖنَ اَرۡبَابًا‌ ؕ اَيَاۡمُرُكُمۡ بِالۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ اِذۡ اَنۡـتُمۡ مُّسۡلِمُوۡنَ‏   

 

Wa-laa-yau-mo-ro-koom-un-tut-ta-khay-zool                                                                             Ma-laa-aiy-ka-ta-wun-na-be-yee-na-ur-baa-bun                                                                         Aa- yau-mo-ro-koom-bil-koof-ray                                                                                                     Bau-da-iz-un-toom-mos-lay-moo-n.

 

And He does not entice you to take                                                                                        The angels and the Prophets as Gods.                                                                                 Would He incite you to Disbelief                                                                                            After when you are submissive?

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  •  لَا — Laa — Does not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • يَاۡ مُرُ — Yau-mo-ro — He entices (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Here this word describes God Almighty’s actions towards man. God can and does administer, admonish, bid, command, compel, dictate, direct, enforce, enjoin, exhort, force, impose, instruct, lay down as law, lead down the path, order, move, motivate, spur, prompt, teach and urge. We the men can’t praise God enough and can describe His acts by any superlative we can find. But it is improper in any translation to clothe man’s actions with a superlative like those which are an exclusive prerogative of the Almighty God in His doing them authoritatively, forcefully, and mightily though always judicially. For translations of this word when used to describe man’s actions or Satan’s actions towards man, see our  commentary titled as the ‘Commandments and Prohibitions‘)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . The Holy Qor-aan states that way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that; that)
  • تَتَّخِذُوۡٓا — Tut-ta-kha-zoo — You take (= v., pl., Adopt; bring in; catch; consider; construe;  enforce; involve; make; put in; seize; treat)
  • الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةَ — Ma-laa-aiy-ka-ta — Angels (= pl., The immortal beings attendant upon God who execute God’s commands and do no wrong. A kind, loving and lovable person)
  • وَ — Wa…(un) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • النَّبِيّٖنَ — Na-be-yee-na — Prophets (= n., pl., GOD’s messengers who receive revelations from Him and tell them to people as a new thing or news)
  • اَرۡبَابًا‌ — Ur-baa-bun — Gods (= n., pl of  ر بۡ (Rub) which means God)
  • اَ — Aa — Would (= Question mark: Are, Can, Do, Have, Shell, What, Will)

  • الۡكُفۡرِKoof-ray — The disbelief (= n., The act of doing the above. Denial, failure or refusal to appreciate or be grateful. Faithlessness. Ingratitude. Thanklessness. Unbelief. Ungratefulness)
  • بَعۡدَ — Bau-da — After (= Subsequent to; succeeding generations)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; whenever)
  • اَنۡ — Un — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily
  • تُمۡ  — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ — Moos-lay-moo-n —  Submissive (= n., pl.,  The believers. The worshippers surrendered to the will of God in dedication and devotion and so at peace. See Note 003:053. Some authors translated the word as those who ‘submitted to the will of God,’ ‘to Him we submit ourselves,’ ‘we will remain obedient,’ ‘bowed your will to God in Islam,’ ‘you had submitted to Allah’ and ‘surrendered yourself to Allah’)
