The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                    007:074

 

وَاِلٰى ثَمُوۡدَ اَخَاهُمۡ صٰلِحًا‌ ۘ قَالَ يٰقَوۡمِ اعۡبُدُوۡا اللّٰهَ مَا لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡ اِلٰهٍ غَيۡرُهٗ‌ ؕ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡكُمۡ  بَيِّنَةٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ‌ ؕ هٰذِهٖ نَاقَةُ اللّٰهِ لَـكُمۡ اٰيَةً‌ فَذَرُوۡهَا تَاۡكُلۡ فِىۡۤ اَرۡضِ اللّٰهِ‌ وَلَا تَمَسُّوۡهَا بِسُوۡٓءٍ فَيَاۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ اَ لِيۡمٌ‏

 

Wa  aiy-laa  tha-moo-da  aa-khaa  hoom  saa-leh
Qaa-la  yaa  qao-may  aiy-bo-doo l-laa-ha
Maa  la  koom  min  aiy-laa-hin  ghai-ro  ho
Qaud  jaa-aut  koom  buy-yay-na-toon  min  raub-bay  koom


Haa-zay  he  naa-qa-ta  ul-laa-hay  la  koom  aa-ya-toon
Fa  za-roo  haa  tau-ko-lo  fee  aur-dzay  il-laa-hay
Wa  laa  ta-maus-soo  haa  bay  soo-in
Fa  yau-kho-za  koom  aa-zaa-boon  aa-lee-m

  

And We sent to Thamud their brother Saaleh.
He said, “Listen my people! Worship Allah.
No god to worship is for you other than Him.
You have a clear guidance come from your God.


Here in the form of a camel is a sign of Allah for you.
So leave it that it eats from the land of Allah
And do not touch her with anything bad
For then a painful punishment will catch you.”

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • اِلَى — Aiy-laa — To (= For; in the direction of; till; to; towards; until. A/t/a, ‘To … (We sent),’ ‘We sent,’ ‘to Thamud (people, We sent)’ and ‘to … (GOD  sent)’
  • ثَمُوۡدَ — Tha-moo-da — Thamood (= n. The name of a tribe that lived long ago. A/t/a, ‘the  Thamud people,’ ‘(the tribe of) Thamud’ and ‘Thamud’)
  • اَخَا — Aa-khaa — Brother (= n., Male son to the same parents. Also, Tribesman. Member of the same tribe or group of people. A/t/a, ‘compatriot’ and ‘of their brethren’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • صٰلِحًا‌ ۘ — Saa-lay-haun — Saa-leh (= n., The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a, ‘Salih’)

Next twelve (12) words are repeated in verses 007:060, 007:066, 007:074 and 007:086

  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; informed; explained; specified; told. Also commanded; directed; instructed; mandated; ordered. See 002:031. A/t/a, ‘he exhorted them’)
  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; A/t/a, ‘O’)
  • قَوۡمِ — Qao-may … (aiy) — People (= n., s., Addressees; attendees; fellows. A/t/a, ‘My people’)
  • اعۡبُدُوا — Aiy-bo-do … (ol) — You worship (= v. pres., pl, 2nd person. Beseech; live in the given lifestyle; pray; praise; sincerely. A/t/a, ‘serve’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ  — Maa  — No (= Absolutely none)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the person, concerning; relative to.  See  لَ  above. A/t/a, ‘have’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You. A/t/a, ‘ye’)
  • مِّنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • اِلٰهٍ — Aiy-laa-hin — God (= n., A deity, object, person or value worthy of worship. A/t/a, ‘god,’ ‘deity’ and  ‘Ilah (God)’)
  • غَيۡرُ — Ghai-ro — Other than (= Besides; else; excluding; not; other than; out of; prohibiting; without. A/t/a, ‘other … but,’ ‘other but,’ ‘save’ and ‘but’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God. A/t/a, ‘He’)

The next seven (7 ) words are repeated in verses 007:074 and 007:086

  • قَدۡ  — Qaud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis like very definitely; surely. See Note 004:049  and our Commentary titled the ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect.’ A/t/a, ‘now,’ ‘indeed,’ ‘verily,’ ‘Truly’ and ‘already’)
  • جَآءَتۡ — Jaa-aut — Has come (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Arrived; came; had come; reached; returned. In a different context the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled or succeeded. A/t/a, ‘has come unto,’ ‘hath come unto,’ ‘has … come,’ ‘There has come to,’ ‘there has now come’ and ‘has come’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . See  كُمۡ  above)
  • بَيِّنَةٌ — Buy-yay-na-toon … (om) — Clear guidance (= n., f/g. Appropriate, clear, proper, right or well-defined course, direction, guidance, line, path, road or way. A/t/a, ‘clear,’ and ‘veritable’)
  • مِّنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • رَّبِّ — Raub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . See  كُمۡ  above)
  • هٰذِهِ — Ha-zay-he — This (= This particularly pointed out. Present right here. What  is in front of you. A//t/a. ‘This is,’ This is … dedicated to the service of,’ ‘(let loose for the  cause of Allah)’ and ‘Here is’)
  • نَاقَةُ — Naa-qa-to … (ol) — Camel (= n., A female camel; she-camel)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • لَ — La –For (= For the person, concerning; relative to. A/t/a,  ‘unto’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You)
  • اٰيَةً‌ — Aa-ya-toon — Sign (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication,  insinuation, pointer, portent, prof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘proof,’ ‘evidence,’ ‘token’ and ‘sign (the miracle of the coming out of a huge she-camel from the midst of a rock)’
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘so’)
  • ذَرُوۡا — Za-roo — You Leave (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Abandon; avoid; discard;            disown; pass; quit; reject. A/t/a, ‘let her’ and ‘let her alone’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid she-camel)
  • تَاۡكُلۡ –Tau-ko-lo — She eats (= v., pres., s., f., 3rd person. Animals like camels graze and feed  themselves on grass. Humans eat, chomp, consume, have; munch, partake or swallow. See 006:120. A/t/a, ‘to graze,’ ‘to graze at will,’ ‘that she may feed,’ ‘to pasture’ and ‘feed’)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Among. Inside a person or place. See Note 002:028. A/t/a, ‘in’ and ‘on’)
  • اَرۡضِ — Aur-dzay … (il) — Land (= n., Area; country; earth; ground; land; soil; territory)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases, clauses. See وَ above)
  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • تَمَسُّوۡ  — Ta-maus-soo — You touch (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person., Affect; afflict; inflict; strike; touch. A/t/a, ‘let her to come to,’ ‘do’ and ‘touch’)
  • هَا — Haa — Her (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid she-camel)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ’with’)
  • سُوۡٓءٍ — Soo-in Any — Anything bad (= n., s., Bad, evil; foul, harm; horrible, grievous, severe, terrible, unpleasant, vicious or worse. A/t/a, ‘harm,’ ‘hurt’ and ‘molest’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘lest’ and ‘or’ )
  • يَاۡخُذَ — Yau-kho-za — Catch (= v., pres., s., 3rd person., Carry; catch; draw; grab; hold; move; obtain; pick up; pound; receive; secure; seize; take. Take control, get hold or put a charge. A/t/a, ‘shall overtake,’ ‘overtake,’ ‘afflict,’ ‘seize,’ ‘should seize’ and ‘incur.’ But the passive voice as in ‘ye shall be seized’ is no translation of the Holy Qor-aan text in the active voice)

  • عَذَابٌ — Aa-zaa-boon — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge. A/t/a,  ‘chastisement’ and ‘torment’)
  • اَلِيۡمٌ — Aa-lee-moon — Painful (= adj., Grievous; hard task; severe; stern; terrible; woeful. A/t/, ‘grievous’)
