The Holy Qor-aan 006:007
اَلَمۡ يَرَوۡا كَمۡ اَهۡلَـكۡنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِمۡ مِّنۡ قَرۡنٍ مَّكَّنّٰهُمۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ مَا لَمۡ نُمَكِّنۡ لَّـكُمۡ وَاَرۡسَلۡنَا السَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ مِّدۡرَارًا وَّجَعَلۡنَا الۡاَنۡهٰرَ تَجۡرِىۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِهِمۡ فَاَهۡلَكۡنٰهُمۡ بِذُنُوۡبِهِمۡ وَاَنۡشَاۡنَا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا اٰخَرِيۡنَ
Aa laum ya-rao kaum auh-lauk-naa min qaub-lay him
Min qaur-nin mauk-kaun-naa hoom fee il-aur-dzay
Maa laum no-mauk-kin la koom
Wa aur-saul-na us-sa-maa-aa aa-lai him mid-raa-raun
Wa ja-aul-naa ul-aun-haa-ra tauj-re min tauh-tay him
Fa auh-luk-naa hoom bay zo-noo-bay him
Wa aun-shau-naa min bau-day him qaur-naun aa-kha-ree-n
Did they not see how many we destroyed before them From among nations We had firmly established them in the world
Like We have not established you And We sent upon them the rain in sheets And We made the rivers flow underneath them.
Then we destroyed them busy with their sins And We raised other nations from those after them.
- اَ — Aa — Did (= Question mark like Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will? A/t/a, ‘See they,’ ‘Have these people’ and ‘Have they’)
- لَمۡ — Laum — Not (= Absolutely never; no; not)
- يَرَوۡا — Ya-rao — See (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Come across; face; observe; are shown; take notice; watch. A/t/a, ‘See they,’ ‘Know they’ and ‘Can they see.’ But having stated ‘considered,’ ‘seen’ and ‘have they … seen’ in the past tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan stated in the present tense)
- كَمۡ — Kaum — How many (= The number of events, occasions, people or times)
- اَهۡلَـكۡنَا — Auh-lauk-naa — We Destroyed (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Annihilated; caused the downfall; killed; ruined; wasted. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘destroyed,’ ‘have destroyed’ and ‘did destroy’)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
- قَبۡلِ — Qaub-lay — Before (= Earlier, former, older, past or prior times. Aforetime. Ahead. Something that happened previously or occurred historically in an earlier period)
- هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- مِّنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class. See مِنۡ above)
- قَرۡنٍ — Qaur-nin … (m) — Nations (= n., pl., Dynasties; empires; generations. groups. A/t/a, ‘men’ and ‘generations.’ See Note below why ‘a generation’ is not an accurate translation)
- مَّكَّنّٰ — Mauk-kaun-naa — We established (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Dug deep; firmed up; given a firm holding; located; punched; set; strengthened. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in the Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘had established … more firmly,’ ‘had made more powerful’ and ’had given them so firm a hold and power’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- فِى — Fee … (il) — In (= About. concerning; reference, regarding, relative to; in the matter of. Also, in a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation. See Note 002:028)
- الۡاَرۡضِ — Il-aur-dzay — Earth (= n., s., Area; country; ground; land; territory. Also, life on earth, nation; people or society)
- مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ‘as’ and ‘such as’)
- لَمۡ — Laum — Not (= Absolutely never; no; not at all)
- نُمَكِّنۡ — No-mauk-kin — We established (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Dug deep, firmed up; set up; see مَّكَّنّٰ above. A/t/a, ‘We had made this generation,’ ‘strength such as We have … given,’ ‘such a firm hold’ and (the next nine words translated together as) ‘men whom We had made more powerful in the land than you’)
- لَ — La — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to)
- كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women jointly this way generally)

- اَرۡسَلۡنَا — Aur-saul-naa — We sent (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Appointed; dispatched; deputed; empowered with the authority; raised; set up. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘shed on,’ ‘sent down,’ ‘had sent,’ ‘poured out’ and ‘sending down’)

- تَجۡرِىۡ — Tauj-ree — Flow (= v., pres., s., f., 3rd person. Irrigating whether quickly with fast actions like gushing, running, sailing, streaming and surging or with slow and steady movements like creeping, dribbling, leaking, oozing, percolating or seeping. A/t/a, ‘Flowing‘ and (with the next three words as) ‘that rolled at their feet’)

** Note 006:007: The plural pronoun هُمۡ (hoom) comes after the word قَرۡنٍ (qaur-nin). That is why it is imperative to translate the noun قَرۡن in the plural as a class, and not in the singular as one – even though the vowel Tunween (double kausra under and double fatah above) normally indicates that the noun is singular.
