The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                025: 075

 

وَالَّذِيۡنَ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَـنَا مِنۡ اَزۡوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ اَعۡيُنٍ وَّاجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ اِمَامًا

 

Wa  ul-la-ze-na  ya-qoo-loo-na  raub-ba  naa
Haub  la   naa  min  auz-waa-jay  naa
Wa  zoor-re-aa-tay  naa  qoor-a-ta  au-yo-nin
Wa  uj-aul-naa  lay  il-moot-ta-qee-na  aiy-maa-maa

 

And those who say, “Lord of us all!
Grant us from our spouses and
Our children an ecstasy in seeing
And make us leaders for the pious.”

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘those who,’ ‘they who’ and ‘who’
  • يَقُولُونَ — Ya-qoo-loona — They say (= v., pres., pl., m., 3rd person. Beseech. Pray. Request. Supplicate. Also, declare; expound; insist; present; profess. A/t/a, ‘say,’ ‘pray,’ ‘implore’ and ‘(in their prayers) say’)
  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures.  Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002. A/t/a, ‘Lord)
  • نَآ — Naa — All of us (= pro., pl., 1st person. We / Us. ‘A/t/a, ‘Our’)
  • هَبۡ — Haub — Grant (= v., pres., 2nd person. Award; bestow; bless; gift; give.   A/t/a, ‘grant,’ ‘vouchsafe,’ give’ and ‘bestow’)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; and relative to. See 002:003a. A/t/a, ‘unto,’ ‘of’ and ’that’)
  • نَآ  — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. We. Us. ‘our’)
  • مِنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • اَزۡوَاجِ — Auz-waa-jay — Spouses (= n., pl., The counterpart of married couples.. Spouses.  Husbands. Wives)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. We / Us)
  • وَ —  Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. Seeوَ   above)
  • ذُرِّيَّتِ — Zor-re-yaa-tay — Progeny (= n., pl., Children; descendants; family; generations; kids; future race; offspring; progeny. A/t/a, ‘offspring’ and Children)
  • نَآ  — Naa —  Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. We / Us)
  • قُرَّةَ — Qor-ra-ta — Ecstasy (= n., Extreme thrill, bliss, delight, elation; enthusiasm; euphoria; excitement, happiness, joy, phrenzy, pleasure or rapture. A/t/a, ‘who will be the comfort,’ ‘who will be a comfort,’ ‘comfort,’ ‘be (a source of) comfort,’ ‘the delight’ and ‘joy’)
  • اَعۡيُنٍ — Au-yo-nin — Seeing (= n., pl. Eyes, the part of human body used for seeing. Vision. A/t/a, ‘of our eyes,’ ‘for (our) eyes’ and ‘to our eyes’)
  • وَّ — Wa … (uj) — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ   above)
  • اجۡعَلۡنَا — Auj-aul-naa — Make us (= v., past., s., 1st person. Appoint; assign; bring into being; cause; configure; create; declare; design; form; fashion; turn; make; produce; render; set up; shape; structure. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘make’ and ‘give …  (the grace)’
  • لِ — Lay … (il) — For (= For the benefit of. See  لَ  above. A/t/a, ‘for’ and ‘of’)
  • لۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ‏ — Moot-ta-qee-n — Pious (= n., pl., Clean. Doers of duty owed to God Almighty.  God-Fearing. Noble. Pious. Righteous. Virtuous. Who ‘avoid angering Allah. See our Commentary The Righteous for many more differently worded meanings. A/t/a, ‘the pious,’ the righteous,’ ‘(all) those who ward off (evil),’ ‘who guard against evil’ and ‘those who fear’)
  • اِمَامًا — Aiy-maa-maa — Leader (= n., s., One who stands in front of others to follow him. A/t/a, ‘model.’ But the plural as in ‘leaders,’ ‘patterns’ and ‘examples’ and the verb as in ‘to lead’ have not translated the Holy Qor-aan text with a noun)
