The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     007:102

 

تِلۡكَ الۡقُرٰى نَقُصُّ عَلَيۡكَ مِنۡ اَنۡۢبَآٮِٕهَا‌ ۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ‌ ۚ فَمَا كَانُوۡا لِيُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِمَا كَذَّبُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ‌ ؕ كَذٰلِكَ يَطۡبَعُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ‏

 

Til-ka  ul-qo-raa  na-qoos-so  aa-lai  ka  min  aun-baa-aiy  haa
Wa  la  qaud  jaa-aut  hoom  ro-so-lo  hoom  bay  il-buy-ya-naa-tay
Fa  maa  kaa-noo  lay  yoe-may-noo  bay-maa  kauz-za-boo  min  qaub-lo
Ka-zaa-lay-ka  yaut-ba-o  ol-laa-ho  aa-laa  qo-loo-bay  il-kaa-fay-ree-n

 

These are the towns We have told you of their happenings.
Their messenger had certainly come to them with clear signs
But they surely could not believe what they had belied before.
This is how Allah put a seal on the hearts of the disbelievers.

        

  • تِلۡكَ — Til-ka — These are (= All the mentioned, stated or told. Those ‘shown, specified or stated right here. A/t/a, ‘Such were’ and ‘those were’)
  • الۡقُرٰى — Qo-raa — The towns (= n., pl of a city, colony, hamlet, habitat, population,   center town, township or anywhere man lives, prospers or resides. A/t/a, ’the towns,’ ‘the township,’ ‘the (people) of townships,’ ‘these towns’ and ‘those people’ )
  • نَقُصُّ — Na-qoos-so — We told (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Described; narrated; related; stated. A/t/a, ‘We have recited,’ ‘We have related’ and ‘We have recounted.’ But the present tense as in ‘We (thus) relate’ and ‘We relate’ is no translation of the past tense in the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; upon. A/t/a, ‘unto’ and ‘to’)
  • كَ  — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You, a single male. Yours. The Initial addressee was the Holy Prophet s.a.w. A/t/a, ‘thee,’ ‘thee (Muhammad)’ and ‘you (O  Muhammad, s.a.w’)
  • مِنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘some of’ and ‘some’)
  • اَنۡۢـبَآءِ — Aun-baa-aiy — Happenings (= n., pl., Account; chronicle; events; info; narration; news; spiritual; stories; tidings. A/t/a, ‘story,’ ‘stories,’ ‘news,’ ‘annals,’ ‘tidings’ and ’the history’)
  • هَا — Haa — Their (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid towns. A/t/a, ‘of them’ and ‘whose’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; but; moreover; though; when; whereupon; while; yet)
  • لَـقَدۡ — La-qaud — Certainly (= Two words  لَ  (la) and قَدۡ  (qaud) both mean absolutely,      certainly, definitely, indeed; obviously, positively, surely; truly, verily. See Commentary ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect‘. A/t/a, ‘Certainly,’ ‘verily’ and ‘indeed’)
  • جَآءَتۡ — Jaa-aut — Had come (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Arrived; came; had come;   reached; returned. In a different context the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled; succeeded. A/t/a, ‘there came,’ ‘came,’ ‘did come,’ ‘came unto’               and ‘came to’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom –Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • رُسُلُ — Ro-so-lo — Messengers (= pl., Apostles; God’s messengers; prophets; sages; saints)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِ  — Bay … (il) — With (= Literally the word means with)
  • الۡبَيِّنٰتِ‌ ۚ– Buy-yay-naa-tin — Clear Signs (= pl., Clear, convincing, irrefutable, manifest, veritable and sure arguments, corroborations, evidences, proofs, portents, signs and testimonies of Truth and Allah. A/t/a, ‘clear Signs,’ ‘clear arguments,’ ‘clear proofs,’ ‘clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty)and ‘veritable proofs’)
  • فَ — Fa — But (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘but’ and ‘yet’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never. A/t/a, ‘not’ and ‘not such’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person. Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘would,’ ‘could,’ ‘they were’  and ‘they persisted’)
  • لِ — Lay — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; certainly; clearly; definitely;    earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; verily)
  • يُّؤۡمِنُوۡا — Yoe-may-noo — They believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. The combination of the prior word  لَمۡ  followed by this word  يُؤۡمِنُوۡا  is also translated in the past tense as explained in Note 007:088. A/t/a, ‘in their unbelief’ and ‘to believe’)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — With what (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ       means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ See 002:092. A/t/a, ‘what,’ ‘that which’  and ‘because’)
  • كَذَّ بُوۡا –Kauz-za-boo — They belied (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Belied; contradicted; denied; derided, denounced, disowned, disproved; falsified; opposed, misrepresented, negated; rejected; treated as liars. A/t/a, ‘had rejected,’ ‘had …denied,’ ‘had disbelieved,’ ‘had cried lies (to them)’ and ‘had once denied’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See مِنۡ  above)
  • قَبۡلُ — Qaub-lo — Before (= Earlier, former, older, past or prior times. Aforetime. Ahead. Something that happened or occurred in prior periods antecedently, historically and previously. A/t/a, ‘before,’ ‘initially’ and ‘in the beginning’)
  • كَذٰلِكِ — Ka-zaa-lay-ka — Like this (= Combines two words. كَ means example, like, identical resembling, similar.  ذٰلِكَ means ‘this right in here’ and refers to an aforesaid event, fact, person or statement.  The combination means ‘like this,’ ‘so it will be,’ ‘such   is the way,’ ‘the same way,’ ‘that is how’ or ‘this way’. A/t/a, ‘thus’ and ‘In this manner’)
  • يَطۡبَعُ — Yaut-ba-o — He puts seal (= v.., pres., pl., 3rd person. Close, condemn; cover; doom. A/t/a, ‘doth … seal,’ ‘does … seal,’ ‘does …. seal up,’ ‘doth … print,’ ‘seals’ and ‘seals up’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho –Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • عَلٰى — Aa-laa — On (= Over; upon. See  عَلَيۡ  above. A/t/a, ‘up’ and ‘upon’)
  • قُلُوۡبِ — Qo-loo-bay … (il) — Hearts (= n., pl., Refers to the ability to think, choose, decide and act in an appropriate manner physically and spiritually. Mind. Inner soul. Understanding. Physically the central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls the body parts and directs all their functions. A/t/a, ‘the hearts … (from every kind of religious guidance’)
  • الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-ree-n — The ungrateful (= n., pl. Those who denied, disbelieved, disclaimed; failed to acknowledge, lacked Faith, rejected Iss-laam and God Almighty or were thankless and ungrateful. See our Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a,  ‘those who reject Faith,’ ‘the disbelievers,’ ‘unbelievers’ and ‘of disbelievers (that they hear not)’
