The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     004:158

 

وَّقَوۡلِهِمۡ اِنَّا قَتَلۡنَا الۡمَسِيۡحَ عِيۡسَى ابۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ رَسُوۡلَ اللّٰهِ‌ ۚ   وَمَا قَتَلُوۡهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡهُ وَلٰـكِنۡ شُبِّهَ لَهُمۡ‌ ؕ  وَاِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اخۡتَلَـفُوۡا فِيۡهِ لَفِىۡ شَكٍّ مِّنۡهُ‌ؕ  ؕ  مَا لَهُمۡ بِهٖ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍ اِلَّا اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ‌ ۚ   وَمَا قَتَلُوۡهُ يَقِيۡنًا  

 

Wa-qao-lay-him-in-naa-qa-tul-nul-ma-se-ha                                                                                  Ee-sub-na-mur-ya-ma-ra-soo-lul-laa-hay

Wa-maa-qa-ta-loo-ho-wa-maa-sa-la-boo-ho                                                                              Wa-laa-kin-na-shoob-bay-ha-la-hoom

Wa-in-nul-la-ze-nukh-ta-la-fee-hay-la-fee-shuk-kin-min-ho                                                Maa-la-hoom-bay-he-min-il-min                                                                                                      Il-lut-tay-baa-uz-zun-nay                                                                                                                Wa-maa-qa-ta-loo-ho-ya-qee-naa

 

And their saying, “Surely we executed the Messiah                                                  Jesus son of Mary, Messenger of Allah.”

And they had not killed him and had not crucified him                                                But it was made to look to them like that.

Surely those who disagreed about him were in doubt about it.                          They have no knowledge about it                                                                                         Except the conjecture as a follow-up.                                                                                    And they did not execute him for sure.

  • الۡمَسِيۡحُ — Ma-see-ho — Messiah (= The expected deliverer and king of the Jews. A/t/a,  ‘Christ’)

وَّبِكُفۡرِهِمۡ وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ عَلٰى مَرۡيَمَ بُهۡتَانًـا عَظِيۡمًا  ۙ ‏

  

Wa-bay-koof-ray-him-wa-qao-lay-him-alaa-mur-ya-ma-boh-taa-nun-azee-maa

 

And with their disbelieving and their alleging against Mary a big fat lie

 

  •  وَّ — Wa — And  (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘because of,’ ‘for’ and (The Lord has done this) because of’)

  • عَظِيۡمًا — Azee-maa — Big fat (= The word magnifies the impact by describing the good with translations like exceedingly, extremely, immensely, incredibly and infinitely. It also accentuates the opposite by describing the bad with translations such as abjectly, awfully, deplorably, disgustingly, dreadfully, frightfully or terribly. فَبِمَا نَقۡضِهِمۡ مِّيۡثَاقَهُمۡ وَكُفۡرِهِمۡ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَقَتۡلِهِمُ الۡاَنۡۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيۡرِ حَقٍّ وَّقَوۡلِهِمۡ قُلُوۡبُنَا غُلۡفٌ ؕ    بَلۡ طَبَعَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهَا بِكُفۡرِهِمۡ فَلَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ اِلَّا قَلِيۡلًا   

 

Fa-bay-maa n                                                                                                                                            Nuq-dzay-him-me-thaa-qa-hoom-wa                                                                                                Koof-ray-him-bay-aa-yaa-til-laa-hay-wa                                                                                        Qut-lay-hay-mil-un-bay-ya-aa-bay-ghai-ray-huq-qin-wa                                                        Qao-lay-him-qo-loo-bo-naa-ghool-foon                                                                                           

Bul-ta-ba-ul-laa-ho-alai-haa-bay-koof-ray-him                                                                            Fa-laa-yoe-may-noo-na-il-laa-qa-le-laa

 

So because of                                                                                                                                  Their breaking their Pledge and                                                                                              Their rejecting the Signs of Allah and                                                                              Their killing the Prophets without justification and                                              Their claiming, “Our hearts are in cover.” 

But really Allah has put a seal on it with their disbelief                                                So they do not believe except a little

 

  • فَ — Fa — So (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because of (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ  means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of, due to the fact, on account of, for the reason that, etc.’ A/t/a, ‘(They have incurred divine Displeasure) in that’ and ‘for’)
  • نَقۡضِ — Nuq-dzay — Breaking (= n., Breaching; breaking, dishonoring; flouting; terminating; violating.  A/t/a, ‘broke’ but that verb is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; them; they; their)

Actually the central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls the body parts and directs all their functions)

  • غُلۡفٌ‌ — Ghoolf — In cover (= n., In or under a cover, repository, seal or wrap. Also, closed; firmly made up; hardened; sealed (as if under an ill-founded claim that they had acquired all that they needed and so had their hearts sealed in a storehouse of knowledge); wrapped impermeably so that they see, hear or understand nothing. وَرَفَعۡنَا فَوۡقَهُمُ الطُّوۡرَ بِمِيۡثَاقِهِمۡ وَقُلۡنَا لَهُمُ ادۡخُلُوا الۡبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَّقُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ لَا تَعۡدُوۡا فِى السَّبۡتِ وَاَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ مِّيۡثَاقًا غَلِيۡظًا‏

 

Wa-ra-fau-naa-fao-qa-ho-moot-too-ra-bay-me-thaa-qay-him                                              Wa-qool-naa-la-ho-mood-kho-lool-baa-ba-sooj-ja-dun                                                                Wa-qool-naa-la-hoom-laa-tau-do-fis-sub-tay                                                                                Wa-aa-khuz-naa-min-hoom-me-thaa-qun-gha-le-zaa

 

And We raised above them the mountain because of their pledge                            And We said to them, “Enter the gate submissively”                                                 And We said to them, “Do not cross the line regarding the Sabbath.”                  And We took from them a solid pledge

يَسۡــَٔـلُكَ اَهۡلُ الۡـكِتٰبِ اَنۡ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ كِتٰبًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ‌ فَقَدۡ سَاَ لُوۡا مُوۡسٰٓى اَكۡبَرَ مِنۡ ذٰ لِكَ فَقَالُوۡۤا اَرِنَا اللّٰهَ جَهۡرَةً فَاَخَذَتۡهُمُ الصّٰعِقَةُ بِظُلۡمِهِمۡ‌‌ ۚ  ثُمَّ اتَّخَذُوا الۡعِجۡلَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ الۡبَيِّنٰتُ فَعَفَوۡنَا عَنۡ ذٰ لِكَ‌‌‌‌ ۚ   وَاٰتَيۡنَا مُوۡسٰى سُلۡطٰنًا مُّبِيۡنًا‏

 

Yus-aa-lo-ka-ah-lool-kay-taa-bay-un-to-nuz-zil                                                                            Alai-him-kay-taa-bun-may-nus-sa-maa-aiy                                                                                  Fa-qud-sa-aa-loo-moo-saa-uk-ba-ro-min-zaa-lay-ka                                                                  Fa-qaa-loo-aa-ray-nul-laa-ha-juh-ra-ton                                                                                      Fa-aa-kha-zut-ho-moos-saa-aiy-qa-to-bay-zool-may-him

Thoom-mut-ta-kha-zool-ij-la-min-bau-day                                                                                      Jaa-ut-ho-mool-buy-yay-naa-to                                                                                                          Fa-aa-fao-naa-un-zaa-lay-ka                                                                                                            Wa-aa-tai-naa-moo-saa-sool-taa-nun-mo-be-naa

 

The people of Book ask you that you bring down                                                        Upon them a Book from the Heaven                                                                                 But then they surely had asked Moses far greater than that.                                      Then they said, “Show us Allah full-face.”                                                                          But a thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing

Then they took a calf for worship after                                                                          Clear signs had come to them                                                                                                  But We forgave them that too                                                                                          And We gave Moses an obvious authority

  • مُّبِيۡنًا‏ — Mo-bee-na — Obvious (= adj., Apparent; clear; evident; flagrant; glaring; gross;   lucid; manifest; obvious; open; palpable; patent, unambiguous; unmistakable. A situation that is avowed, cleared, declared, marked or sworn to be without any  blemish, hindrance or obstruction which could cloud or fog the view. وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا بِاللّٰهِ وَرُسُلِهٖ وَلَمۡ يُفَرِّقُوۡا بَيۡنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ سَوۡفَ يُؤۡتِيۡهِمۡ اُجُوۡرَهُمۡ ؕ‌ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ غَفُوۡرًا رَّحِيۡمًا ‏

 

Wul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-bil-laa-hay-wa-ro-so-lay-he                                                              Wa-lum-yo-fur-ray-qoo-bai-na-aa-ha-dim-min-hoom                                                                O-laa-aiy-ka-sao-fa-yoe-te-hoom-o-joo-ra-hoom                                                                    Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-gha-foo-rur-ra-hee-maa

 

And those who believed in Allah and His Messengers                                                  And do not distinguish between any of them                                                                They all are that He will soon award them their rewards                                            And Allah has always been very Forgiving, very Merciful

The prior word  سَوۡفَ has turned the meanings of this word from the present tense into the future tense as He shall or will award, bestow, bless, confer, gift, give, grant, hand down, reward or send. A/t/a, Allah ‘will give,’ ‘will … give’ and ‘He shall … give.’ But inaccurately translated are (a) ‘We shall give’ in the 1st person when the Holy Qor-aan has used a verb for the 3rd person, and (b) ‘they shall be rewarded’ in the passive voice when the Holy Qor-aan has stated the fact in the active voice’)

  • رَّحِيۡمًا‌ — Ra-hee-maa — Very Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like the endlessly and perpetually  incoming waves from the oceans; Merciful Forever. اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡـكٰفِرُوۡنَ حَقًّا‌ ۚ  وَ اَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ عَذَابًا مُّهِيۡنًا‏

 

O-laa-aiy-ka-ho-mool-kaa-fay-roo-na-huq-qun-wa                                                                      Au-tud-naa-lil-kaa-fay-re-na-azaa-bum-mo-he-naa

 

All of them truly are disbelievers and                                                                                We have prepared for the ungrateful a humiliating punishment

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ يَكۡفُرُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَرُسُلِهٖ وَيُرِيۡدُوۡنَ اَنۡ يُّفَرِّقُوۡا بَيۡنَ اللّٰهِ وَرُسُلِهٖ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ نُؤۡمِنُ بِبَعۡضٍ وَّنَكۡفُرُ بِبَعۡضٍ ۙ  وَّيُرِيۡدُوۡنَ اَنۡ يَّتَّخِذُوۡا بَيۡنَ ذٰ لِكَ سَبِيۡلًا  ۙ  

 

In-nul-la-ze-na-yuk-fo-roo-na-bil-laa-hay-wa-ro-so-lay-he                                                        Wa-yo-re-do-na-un-yo-fur-ray-qoo-bai-nul-laa-hay-wa-ro-so-lay-he                                    Wa-ya-qoo-loo-na-noe-may-no-bay-bau-dzin-wa-nuk-fa-ro-bay-bau-zin                              Wa-yo-re-do-na-un-yut-ta-khay-zoo-bai-na-zaa-lay-ka-sa-be-laa

 

Certainly those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers                                  And seek a separation between Allah and His Messengers                                        And they say, “We believe in some and we disbelieve in some.”                            And they seek that they find a midway between all that. 

 

  • اِنَّ — In-na(ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; for sure; indeed; positively; really; seriously; sincerely; surely;  truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo!’)

  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

  • رُسُلِ — Ro-so-lay — Messengers (= pl., Apostles; God’s messengers; prophets; sages; saints)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)

  • يُرِيۡدُوۡنَ — Yo-ree-doo-na — They seek (= v., pres., 3rd person. Men with a distinct possibility to never reach their planned goal, the accurate translation of this word is aim, aspire, choose, conform, covet,   crave, desire, go after, hanker, like, long, plan, pursue, scheme, seek, wish, want or yearn.   • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that; that)
  • يُّفَرِّقُوۡا — Yo-fur-ray-qoo — Separating (= v., pres, pl., 3rd person. Causing, creating, developing or making a clear separation between the given two elements, things like good or bad, or persons like wife and husband. The original text dictates if a translation of teaching or learning to distinguish, differentiate or discriminate is more suitable than inciting, promoting or sponsoring some difference, disagreement, dissent, division, trouble or unhappy discord. اِنۡ تُبۡدُوۡا خَيۡرًا اَوۡ تُخۡفُوۡهُ اَوۡ تَعۡفُوۡا عَنۡ سُوۡٓءٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا قَدِيۡرًا‏

 

In-toob-do-khai-run-auo-tookh-foo-ho-auo-tau-foo-un-soo-in                                                Fa-in-nul-laa-ha-kaa-na-aa-foo-won-qa-de-raa

 

If you disclose a good or conceal it or pardon an evil                                                    Then Allah has always been Highly Excusing, Fully Controlling

  •  تُبۡدُوۡا — Toob-doo — You disclose (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. لَا يُحِبُّ اللّٰهُ الۡجَــهۡرَ بِالسُّوۡٓءِ مِنَ الۡقَوۡلِ اِلَّا مَنۡ ظُلِمَ‌ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ سَمِيۡعًا عَلِيۡمًا‏

 

Laa-yo-hib-bool-laa-hool-jah-ra-bis-soo-aiy-may-nul-qao-la                                                    Il-laa-mun-zo-lay-ma-wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-sa-me-un-alee-maa

 

Allah does not love loud talk of evil except by one who is wronged.                        And Allah has always been All-Hearing, All-Knowing

  

  • لَا — Laa — No / Does not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يُحِبُّ — Yo-hib-bo(ol) — Loves (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Admires; adores; appreciates; approves; cherishes; is attached; likes very much; prefers. A/t/a covets; craves; desires; wants; wishes)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho(ol) — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
