The Holy Qor-aan 002:258
اَللّٰهُ وَلِىُّ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا يُخۡرِجُهُمۡ مِّنَ الظُّلُمٰتِ اِلَى النُّوۡرِؕ وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡۤا اَوۡلِيٰٓـــُٔهُمُ الطَّاغُوۡتُۙ يُخۡرِجُوۡنَهُمۡ مِّنَ النُّوۡرِ اِلَى الظُّلُمٰتِؕ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَصۡحٰبُ النَّارِۚ هُمۡ فِيۡهَا خٰلِدُوۡنَؕ
Alla-ho wa-lee-yo ol-la-zee-na aa-ma-noo Yookh-ray-jo hoom may-na uz-zo-lo-maa-tay aiy-la un-noo-r Wa ul-la-zee-na ka-fa-roo auo-lay-yaa-o ho-mo ot-taa-ghoo-to Yookh-ray-joo-na hoom may-na un-noo-ray aiy-la uz-zo-lo-maa-tay O-laa-aiy-ka us-haa-bo on-naa-ray hoom fee haa khaa-lay-doon
Allah is true friend of those who have believed. He brings them out of the darkness to the light. And those who disbelieved are the friends of Satan. They bring them out of the light to the darkness. They all are inmates of Fire. They are dwellers in it.
- اللّٰهُ — Alla-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
- وَلِىُّ — Wa-lee-yo … (ol) — True friend (= n., s., Guardian; guide; helper; leader; patron; protector and protective friend. Sincere well-wisher who heeds one in need; supporter. The word also means an aide, assistant and henchman that won’t apply in reference to the Almighty God. This fact is stated in 005:056 also)
- ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= Reference is to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
- اٰمَنُوۡا — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan, became Moslems and entered in the Faith of Isslaam — See the explanation in our Commentary Islam – 101. Also, those who made peace, protected, rescued, saved or secured themselves from sin and against fear; those who accepted, admitted, affirmed, approved, concurred, confirmed, corroborated, embraced, evidenced, proved, testified or witnessed their entry in Islam. See the Note 002:026c)
The next six (6) words are repeats in verses 002:258 and 005:017
- يُخۡرِجُ — Yookh-ray-jo — Brings out (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Bring forth; brings out; burst out; exits; extracts; proceeds; produces. Also, causes to exit, flow, get out, grow, issue, lead, push, spill or take out)
- هُمۡ — Hoom … (may) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid disbelievers)
- مِّنَ — May-na … (uz) From (= From among; from a class, category or count of; out of)
- الظُّلُمٰتِ — Zolo-maa-tay — Darkness (= n., pl. Layer upon layer of darkness; abysmal darkness; all and every kind of darkness; deep darkness; depth of darkness; difference shades of darkness; pitch dark; several zones of thick, total and utter darkness. Physical and spiritual darkness)
- إِلَى — Aiy-la … (un) — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
- النُّوۡرِ — Noo-ray — Light (= Brightness. The area or situation illuminated with the dazzling light without the least bit of darkness)
- وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= Reference is to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
- كَفَرُوۡۤا — Ka-fa-roo — Disbelieved (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Acted ungrateful or thankless; infidel; rejected faith. See Commentary BELIEVE and DISBELIEVE)
- اَوۡلِيَآءُ — Auo-lay-yaa-o — True friends (= n., pl., Guardians; guides; helpers; leaders; patrons; protectors; protective friends; sincere well-wishers who heed one in need; supporter. A/t/a False gods. The word includes the meanings of evil persons who are always there pretending to be the abettors aides, assistants, henchmen and sincere well-wishers while really hindering people from following the right road)
- هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ot) — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the disbelievers)
- الطَّاغُوۡتُۙ — Taa-ghoo-to — The Satan (= Bad or evil leaders or persons. Devils. idol-worshipers. Idols. A/t/a, transgressors, false deities, false leaders as stated in the previous verse.
- يُخۡرِجُوۡنَ — Yookh-ray-joo-na — Bring out (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Bring forth; brings out; burst out; exits; extracts. See يُخۡرِجُ above)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them … (im) (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the disbelievers)
- مِّنَ — May-na … (un) — From (= From among; from a class, category or count of; out of)
- النُّوۡرِ — Noo-ray — Light (= Brightness. Areas illuminated. See النُّوۡرِ above)
- إِلَى — Aiy-la … (uz) — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
- الظُّلُمٰتِ — Zolo-maa-tay — Darkness (= Deep darkness; pitch dark. See الظُّلُمٰتِ above)
See Phrase O-laa-aiy-ka us-haa-bo on-naar … meaning “They are inmates of Fire”
- اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — Olaa-aiy-ka — They all (= Aforesaid facts, persons or things. Here the reference is to aforesaid folks, people, sinners and wrong doers)
- اَصۡحٰبُ — Us-haa-bo … (on) — Inmates (= n., pl., This one word has many shades of meanings. With closeness as an element … Associates; companions; families; fellows; folks; friends; heirs. With residence as an element … citizens; denizens; dwellers; guests; inmates; inhabitants; invitees; live ins; natives; residents; stayers; visitors. With control as an element … army; controllers; fighters; masters; occupants; occupiers; owners; people; populace; population; possessors; soldiers)
- ٱلنَّارِ — Naa-ray — The Fire (= Anger, punishment or wrath of Allah; hell; hell fire; purgatory. The Fire of punishment. Literally, the rapid sustained reaction or source of releasing light and heat)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid inmates)
- فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Contained in or amidst a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation; inside)
- هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to the fire)
- خٰلِدُوۡنَ — Khaa-lay-doo-n — Dwellers (= n., pl., Those abiding, living, staying or residing for a time unspecified as in a hospital or rest house. To add words like everlastingly, for ever after, permanently and perpetually is inappropriate for those who will go to hell. Adding such a qualification is appropriate only for the residents of Paradise . Some interpreters have incorrectly labeled this period to last forever. See Note 002:040)

The Holy Qor-aan 002:256
اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الۡحَـىُّ الۡقَيُّوۡمُ ۚ لَا تَاۡخُذُهٗ سِنَةٌ وَّلَا نَوۡمٌؕ لَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِؕ مَنۡ ذَا الَّذِىۡ يَشۡفَعُ عِنۡدَهٗ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِهٖؕ يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡۚ وَلَا يُحِيۡطُوۡنَ بِشَىۡءٍ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِهٖۤ اِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَۚ وَلَا يَـــُٔوۡدُهٗ حِفۡظُهُمَا ۚ وَ هُوَ الۡعَلِىُّ الۡعَظِيۡمُ
Aul-laa-ho laa aiy-laa-ha il-la ho-wa ul-huy-yo ol-qauy-yoom Laa tau-kho-zo hoo say-na-toon wa laa naum La hoo maa fee is-sa-maa-waa-tay wa maa fee il-aur-dzay Maun za ul-laa-ze yaush-fa-o in-da hoo il-laa bay iz-nay he Yau-la-mo maa bai-na aiy-dee him wa maa khaul-fa hoom Wa laa yo-he-too-na bay shai-in min il-may he il-laa bay maa shaa-aa Wa-say-aa koor-see hoo s-sa-maa-waa-tay wa ul-aur-dza Wa laa ya-oo-do hoo hif-zo ho-maa Wa ho-wa ul-aa-li-yo ol-aa-zee-m
Allah! There is no God except Him, The Living, The Lasting. Never catches up to Him any slumber nor sleep. For Him is all in the heavens and all in the earth. Who is that who will intercede with Him except by His leave? He knows what’s before them and what’s behind them. * They don’t encompass any part of His knowledge except with what He chose. His Control has extended over the heavens and earth. And protecting them both never tires Him. And He is The Highest, Most Glorious.

The Holy Qor-aan repeats the Phrase “lil-laa-hay … ” in next nine (9) words frequently
* Note 002:256. This verse is also known as the Aa-ya-tool-kor-see. It is customarily used as a very comprehensive prayer. It starts with the proclamation of the Unity of God, ends by reiterating His Most Exalted status as the Highest, the Greatest, and in-between its nine clauses cover enormous grounds.
Few humans can describe the depth of its meanings or comprehend the breadth of its significance. A lot has been written in its translations, interpretations and extrapolations. But it is an excellent way to reach the Almighty God no matter how a beseecher uses it.
** Note 002:256a. Several meanings have been attached to the following two sets of words.
The words اَيۡدِيۡ هِمۡ are best translated with between their hands or before them as stated above. However, other translations have expressed them as ‘He knows what appears to His creatures before them or lies ahead or in front of them’ and ‘He knows what His creatures do.’
The words خَلۡفَ هُمۡ are best translated with behind them as stated above. However, other translations have expressed them as ‘He knows what appears to His creatures behind them’ and ‘He knows what happens or will happen to them in the Hereafter.’
