The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        002:258

 

اَللّٰهُ وَلِىُّ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا يُخۡرِجُهُمۡ مِّنَ الظُّلُمٰتِ اِلَى النُّوۡرِ‌ؕ  وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡۤا اَوۡلِيٰٓـــُٔهُمُ الطَّاغُوۡتُۙ يُخۡرِجُوۡنَهُمۡ مِّنَ النُّوۡرِ اِلَى الظُّلُمٰتِ‌ؕ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَصۡحٰبُ النَّارِ‌‌ۚ هُمۡ فِيۡهَا خٰلِدُوۡنَؕ‏

 

Alla-ho  wa-lee-yo  ol-la-zee-na  aa-ma-noo                                                                                   Yookh-ray-jo  hoom  may-na  uz-zo-lo-maa-tay  aiy-la  un-noo-r                                             Wa  ul-la-zee-na  ka-fa-roo  auo-lay-yaa-o  ho-mo  ot-taa-ghoo-to                                            Yookh-ray-joo-na  hoom  may-na  un-noo-ray  aiy-la  uz-zo-lo-maa-tay                                O-laa-aiy-ka  us-haa-bo  on-naa-ray  hoom  fee  haa  khaa-lay-doon

 

Allah is true friend of those who have believed.                                                               He brings them out of the darkness to the light.                                                               And those who disbelieved are the friends of Satan.                                              They bring them out of the light to the darkness.                                                            They all are inmates of Fire. They are dwellers in it.                                                    

 

  • اللّٰهُ — Alla-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَلِىُّ — Wa-lee-yo … (ol) — True friend (= n., s., Guardian; guide; helper; leader; patron; protector and protective friend.  Sincere well-wisher who heeds one in need; supporter.  The word also means an aide, assistant and henchman that won’t apply in reference to  the Almighty God. This fact is stated in 005:056 also)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= Reference is to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
  • اٰمَنُوۡا — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed  (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan, became Moslems and entered in the Faith of Isslaam — See the explanation in our Commentary Islam – 101. Also, those who made peace, protected, rescued, saved  or secured themselves from sin and against fear; those who accepted, admitted, affirmed, approved, concurred, confirmed, corroborated, embraced, evidenced, proved,  testified or witnessed their entry in Islam. See the Note 002:026c)

The next six (6) words are repeats in verses 002:258 and 005:017  

  • يُخۡرِجُ — Yookh-ray-jo — Brings out (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Bring forth; brings out; burst out; exits; extracts; proceeds; produces.  Also, causes to exit, flow, get out, grow, issue, lead, push, spill or take  out)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom … (may) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid disbelievers)
  • مِّنَ — May-na … (uz)   From (= From among; from a class, category or count of; out of)
  • الظُّلُمٰتِ — Zolo-maa-tay — Darkness (= n., pl. Layer upon layer of darkness; abysmal darkness; all and every kind of darkness; deep darkness; depth of darkness; difference shades of darkness; pitch dark; several zones of thick, total and utter darkness.     Physical and spiritual darkness)
  •  إِلَى — Aiy-la … (un) — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
  • النُّوۡرِ‌ — Noo-ray — Light (= Brightness. The area or situation illuminated with the dazzling light without the least bit of darkness)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= Reference is to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
  • كَفَرُوۡۤا — Ka-fa-roo — Disbelieved (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Acted ungrateful or thankless; infidel; rejected faith. See Commentary BELIEVE and DISBELIEVE)
  • اَوۡلِيَآءُ — Auo-lay-yaa-o — True friends (= n., pl., Guardians; guides; helpers; leaders; patrons; protectors; protective friends; sincere well-wishers who heed one in need; supporter.  A/t/a False gods. The word includes the meanings of evil persons who         are always there pretending to be the abettors aides, assistants, henchmen and sincere well-wishers while really hindering people from following the right road)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ot) — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the disbelievers)
  • الطَّاغُوۡتُۙ — Taa-ghoo-to — The Satan (= Bad or evil leaders or persons. Devils. idol-worshipers. Idols. A/t/a, transgressors,   false deities, false leaders as stated in the previous verse.
  • يُخۡرِجُوۡنَ — Yookh-ray-joo-na — Bring out (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Bring forth; brings out; burst out; exits; extracts. See يُخۡرِجُ  above)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them … (im) (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the disbelievers)
  • مِّنَ — May-na … (un) — From (= From among; from a class, category or count of; out of)
  • النُّوۡرِ — Noo-ray — Light (= Brightness. Areas illuminated.  See النُّوۡرِ  above)
  • إِلَى   —  Aiy-la … (uz) — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
  • الظُّلُمٰتِ‌  —  Zolo-maa-tay — Darkness (= Deep darkness; pitch dark. See الظُّلُمٰتِ ‌ above)

See Phrase O-laa-aiy-ka  us-haa-bo  on-naar … meaning “They are inmates of Fire”

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — Olaa-aiy-ka — They all (= Aforesaid facts, persons or things. Here the reference is to aforesaid folks, people, sinners and wrong doers)
  • اَصۡحٰبُ — Us-haa-bo … (on) — Inmates (= n.pl., This one word has many shades of meanings.   With closeness as an element … Associates; companions; families; fellows; folks; friends; heirs.  With residence as an element … citizens; denizens; dwellers; guests; inmates; inhabitants; invitees; live ins; natives; residents; stayers; visitors. With control as an element … army; controllers; fighters; masters; occupants; occupiers; owners; people; populace; population; possessors; soldiers)
  • ٱلنَّارِ — Naa-ray — The Fire (= Anger, punishment or wrath of Allah; hell; hell fire; purgatory. The Fire of punishment. Literally, the rapid sustained reaction or source of releasing light and heat)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid inmates)
  • فِىۡ   — Fee — In (= Contained in or amidst a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation; inside)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to the fire)
  • خٰلِدُوۡنَ — Khaa-lay-doo-n — Dwellers (= n., pl., Those abiding, living, staying or residing for a time unspecified as in a hospital or rest house. To add words like everlastingly, for ever after, permanently and perpetually is inappropriate for those who will go   to hell. Adding such a qualification is appropriate only for the residents of Paradise . Some interpreters have incorrectly labeled this period to last forever. See Note 002:040)

اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الۡحَـىُّ الۡقَيُّوۡمُ ۚ لَا تَاۡخُذُهٗ سِنَةٌ وَّلَا نَوۡمٌ‌ؕ  لَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ‌ؕ  مَنۡ ذَا الَّذِىۡ يَشۡفَعُ عِنۡدَهٗ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِه‌ٖؕ  يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ‌ۚ  وَلَا يُحِيۡطُوۡنَ بِشَىۡءٍ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِهٖۤ اِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ  وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ‌‌ۚ  وَلَا يَـــُٔوۡدُهٗ حِفۡظُهُمَا ‌ۚ وَ هُوَ الۡعَلِىُّ الۡعَظِيۡمُ

 

Aul-laa-ho  laa  aiy-laa-ha  il-la  ho-wa  ul-huy-yo  ol-qauy-yoom                                        Laa  tau-kho-zo  hoo  say-na-toon  wa  laa  naum                                                                          La  hoo  maa  fee  is-sa-maa-waa-tay  wa  maa  fee  il-aur-dzay                                            Maun  za  ul-laa-ze  yaush-fa-o  in-da  hoo  il-laa  bay  iz-nay  he                                          Yau-la-mo  maa  bai-na  aiy-dee  him  wa  maa  khaul-fa  hoom                                            Wa  laa  yo-he-too-na  bay  shai-in  min  il-may  he  il-laa  bay  maa  shaa-aa                      Wa-say-aa  koor-see  hoo  s-sa-maa-waa-tay  wa  ul-aur-dza                                                Wa  laa  ya-oo-do  hoo  hif-zo  ho-maa                                                                                            Wa  ho-wa  ul-aa-li-yo  ol-aa-zee-m

 
Allah! There is no God except Him, The Living, The Lasting.                              Never catches up to Him any slumber nor sleep.                                                          For Him is all in the heavens and all in the earth.                                                         Who is that who will intercede with Him except by His leave?                                   He knows what’s before them and what’s behind them. *                                    They don’t encompass any part of His knowledge except with what He chose. His Control has extended over the heavens and earth.                                                  And protecting them both never tires Him.                                                                   And He is The Highest, Most Glorious.

  • هُوَ — Ho-wa — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God. This word in common parlance is pronounced as hoo by ignoring the vowel ka-sa-rah on its last word. The Phrase Allaa-ho-aa-hud meaning Allah is One shows some other ways also that the Holy Qor-aan repeates its message about the Oneness of God)
  • الۡحَـىُّ — Ul-huy-yo … (ol) — The Living (= adj., Superlative form shows the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Alive, Active and Living. By whom all exist subsist. The Eternally Living One. Everlasting. Ever-living.            Self-subsisting. The Only One Who Gives life to others and Lives by Himself. The Only One Who never dies and unlike our life combines no flesh, blood or soul. See 001:001)
  • الۡقَيُّوۡمُ — Qauy-yoom — The Lasting (= adj., superlative form indicates the greatest, the  highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Well-Established. Eternal. Existing forever. Long lasting. Perpetually there to help. Protecting others. Self-sustaining. Sustains Himself. See 001:001)
  • لَا — Laa — Never (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • تَاۡخُذُ — Tau-kho-zo — Catches up (= v., pres., s., 3rd person.  Burdens; comes to hold; imposes; overtakes; seizes; takes over; tires out)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • سِنَةٌ — Say-na-toon — Slumber (= n., Catnap; fatigue; light sleep; tiredness)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • نَوۡمٌ‌ — Naom — Sleep (= n., A catnap, doze, nap, slumber or snooze for an extended period of time in hours. Deep and total sleep – like the one that one has got to fight to get up in the morning upon hearing the loud announcement of the morning call for the prayer Azaan [Us-sua-laa-to-khair-room-may-nun-naum – Th prayer is better than the Sleep)

The Holy Qor-aan repeats the Phrase “lil-laa-hay … ” in next nine (9) words frequently

  • كُرۡسِيُّ — Kor-see-yo — Control (= Controlling seat; high chair; key post; knowledge; throne)

  • حِفۡظ — Hif-zo — Protecting (= n., Guarding; preserving; taking care of; undertaking the responsibility)
  • هُمَا — Ho-maa — Them both (= pro., 3rd person. Refers to 2 things or persons. Here the reference is to the heavens and the earth)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ  above)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa … (ul) — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • الۡعَلِىُّ — Aul-Aa-lee-o … (ol) — The Highest (= adj., Superlative form indicates the Greatest. The word highlights that no one more than Him is Higher. The Most Exalted. One Who is clear of all characteristics of creatures. See 001:001)
  • الۡعَظِيۡمُ — Aul-aa-zee-m — Most Glorious (= adj., superlative form indicates the greatest, highest, and that none more than Him is Glorious, Magnificent, Great, Greatest, Awesome, Mighty and Tremendous. See Note 001:001)

 

* Note 002:256. This verse is also known as the Aa-ya-tool-kor-see. It is customarily used as a very comprehensive prayer. It starts with the proclamation of the Unity of God, ends by reiterating His Most Exalted status as the Highest, the Greatest, and in-between its nine clauses cover enormous grounds.

Few humans can describe the depth of its meanings or comprehend the breadth of its significance. A lot has been written in its translations, interpretations and extrapolations. But it is an excellent way to reach the Almighty God no matter how a beseecher uses it.

** Note 002:256a.  Several meanings have been attached to the following two sets of words.

The words  اَيۡدِيۡ هِمۡ  are best translated with between their hands or before them as stated above.  However, other translations have expressed them as ‘He knows what appears to His creatures before them or lies ahead or in front of them’ and ‘He knows what His creatures do.’

            The words خَلۡفَ هُمۡ are best translated with behind them as stated above.  However, other translations have expressed them as ‘He knows what appears to His creatures behind them’ and ‘He knows what happens or will happen to them in the Hereafter.’

يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اَنۡفِقُوۡا مِمَّا رَزَقۡنٰكُمۡ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِ اَنۡ يَّاۡتِىَ يَوۡمٌ لَّا بَيۡعٌ فِيۡهِ وَلَا خُلَّةٌ وَّلَا شَفَاعَةٌ وَالۡكٰفِرُوۡنَ هُمُ الظّٰلِمُوۡن

  

Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo                                                                                             Un-fay-qoo-mim-maa-ra-zuq-naa-koom                                                                                       Min-qub-lay-un-yau-tay-ya-yao-moon-laa                                                                                   Bai-oon-fee-hay-wa-laa-khool-la-toon-wa-laa-sha-faa-aa-ta                                                    Wul-kaa-fay-roo-na-ho-mooz-zaa-lay-moo-n.

 

Listen, you all who have believed!                                                                               Spend out of what We provided you                                                                                Before surely comes the day that there will be no                                                       Bargaining in it and no friendship and no intercession.                                              And the ungrateful really are the wrongdoers.

 

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam.   • اَنۡفِقُوۡا — Un-fay-qoo — You spend (= v., Contribute; donate; give in charity. Expend, lay, put or use for noble purposes. Help those in need. Invest in good causes.  Practice giving alms. Spend your belongings, substance and wealth in the causes of Allah)
  • مِمَّا — Mim-ma — Out of what (= Words ‘Min’ meaning ‘from’ and ‘Ma’ meaning what.  A/t/a ‘Out of the bounties’ and ‘Bestow in alms a part of what We have given you’)
  • رَزَقۡ — Ra-zuq — Provided (= v., past t., Bestowed; blessed; conferred; delivered; donated; furnished; gave; gifted; granted; supplied)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states
  • مِّنۡ — Min — From (= From among; from a class, category or count of)
  • قَبۡلِ — Qub-lay — Before (= Earlier, former, older, past or prior times. Aforetime.  Ahead. Something that happened or occurred in prior periods antecedently, historically and previously)
  • اَنَّ —  Un…(ya) –Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; certainly; clearly; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively, really; verily)

* Note:002:255.  The use of three different words in this verse has a great significance. Each word conveys a very distinct concept which is not included in the other two words.

  • The word خُلَّةٌ  conveys the concept that someone of his own volition does a favor to another person without any third party requesting for that.
  • The word شَفَاعَةٌ conveys the concept that someone does a favor to another at the behest, beseeching, intercession, intervention, recommendation or request of a third party.
  • The word بَيۡعٌ conveys the concept of completing an arrangement after two persons have bartered, exchanged, negotiated, traded or trafficked with an even-handed give and take.

 Fa-min-hoom-mun-aa-ma-na-wa-min-hoom-mun-ka-fa-ra.                                                  Wa-lao-sha-ul-laa-ho-muq-ta-ta-loo.                                                                                          Wa-laa-kin-nul-laa-ha-yuf-aa-lo-maa-yo-ree-d.

 

These messengers – We gave preference to some of them on some others. Among them were with whom Allah talked                                                                    And He raised some of them in ranks.

We gave clear signs to Jesus son of Mary                                                                        And supported him with the Spirit of Holiness.

And if Allah chose,                                                                                                                    Those who came after them would not have fought                                                       After the clear signs had come to them.                                                                               And but they disagreed with each other.

So, among them were who believed and among them who disbelieved.                And if Allah chose, they would not have fought with each other.                             However, Allah does what He wills.

The first  وَ is a conjunction that links words, phrases or clauses and literally means ‘and, but, while, yet’., etc. The second is  لٰـکِنّ  that literally means ‘but or nevertheless.’  The  combination is best if translated with ‘however’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • يَفۡعَلُ — Yuf-aa-lo — Does (= Acts; fulfills; implements; materializes; performs;  precipitates; pursues; renders)
  • مَا — Maa — What (= That; whatever; whatsoever)
  • يُرِيۡدُ — Yo-reed — He wills (= Chooses; decrees; decides; destines; determines; likes; intends; pleases. A/t/a ‘Desires, wants or wishes’ but those meanings really do not apply relative to the Almighty God because He Does What He Intends)

 

* Note: 002:254. . The two-worded  رُوۡحِ الۡقُدُسِ‌  phrase has been used in the Holy Qor-aan several times. Translations vary as to the exact meanings of this phrase.

Some have referred to it as The Spirit of Holiness. This would be internal quality infused in the subject which in this case is Jesus Son of Mary.

            Some have referred to it as Holy Spirit or the Arch angel Gabriel or Jibraeel in the Arabic.  This would be an external force applied or outside person deputed to support the subject which in this case is Jesus Son of Mary.

            Either of the two translations appear accurate. They describe a special blessings that the Almighty God conferred on Jesus and specified him in this verse as one of His Messengers.

The Wisdom

The word  الۡحِكۡمَةَ  has been translated in many different ways.

The literal meanings of word الۡحِكۡمَةَ (Ul-hik-mah) include the following.  Ability to distinguish good from bad, right from wrong. Administered appropriate instruction.  Balancing power.  Comprehension. Intelligence.  Understanding.  Shrewdness.  Many verses including the 002:130, 002:152,  002:232, 002:270 and o62:003 have been translated with those meanings of the word.

But quoting an the Tafsir At-Tabari, the eminent scholars Dr Al-Hilali and Dr Khan have translated this word in the verse 002:252 as the ‘Prophethood’ and stated as follows. “Allah gave him[Dawud (David)] the kingdom[after the death of Talut (Saul) and Samuel] and Al-Hikmah (Prophethood) and taught him of that which He willed.”

The word  الۡحِكۡمَةَ  (Ul-hik-mah) has also been translated as the ‘Knowledge of Islamic laws and jurisprudence.’  Such interpretation is supported by the verse 003:066 because Abraham (a) had prayed that way many centuries before Islam and b) had practically made a forecast about the coming of the Holy Prophet s.a.w and advent of Islam.

Construing Abraham’s aforesaid prayer and forecast to translate this word as ‘Knowledge of Islamic laws and jurisprudence’ is open to the criticism (albeit unjustified in spirit) that what Abraham had sought by his invocation many centuries before Islaam was not and could not be about Islam.

All above extrapolations are plausible in translating this word in verse 002:270.

5 – This site – Why is it important

This site, Why is it important

 

Mankind has always faced significant humanistic challenges in its history.  Islam [spelled also as Islaam and Isslaam], on the other hand, has taught total humanism—to be a humble human not faking or making gods, to be a good child, sibling, spouse, parent, friend and member of human family, to be spiritually enlightened, to genuinely respect the dignity of other faiths, to coexist with other non-human creatures on earth, to attain peace within and provide peace all around, and to invite to God with wise ways and excellent exhortation by prettiest possible presentations (016:126). The Holy Qor-aan started its revelation with a simple direction to the Holy Prophet Mohammad s.a.w., “Read with the name of your God who created you” (096:001).

Translating any work in a different language with its own rules of grammar is not easy. Creativity that God gave to man has ‘allegedly’ been abused by many translators, dictators, generals and kings to translate, interpret and extrapolate the scriptures for whatever reasons to get around the dictated divine rules.  ‘Lost in translation’ is a fact. Many critics have dishonestly described the original or downright twisted it in bad-faith. Some translations are honest innocent conversions. We also risk challenges for whatever we say on this site. But our mission is clear, simple and straightforward.

Every single word in our English translation and transliteration is written by us. So please pray that we make all our “entries and exits of a truthful person” (017:081). We intend to “present the truth” (017:082), the whole truth and nothing but the truth. As a moderate entity we will guide fellow-men and be guided by the Messenger (002:144). Our mission is to share in humility all teachings of the Holy Qor-aan with everyone. We write our Commentaries and invite others to participate in such conversations.

Those not-yet-Moslems can get straightforward access and direct links to the true teachings of Islam. Those already Moslems but divided in hundreds of schools and sects can find, compare and evaluate what they practice, preach or profess by labeling it Islam with the originals of the Commandments and Prohibitions. After all the Holy Qor-aan came for all men to get them out of the darkness to the light (014-002). We use American English spellings, phonetic pronunciation and expressions since today that is the most predominant language spoken and understood around the world. And God never sent a messenger except with the tongue of his people to clearly explain His message (014-005).

 Islam and Sikhs

            Baba Nanak was born a Hindu in Punjab but embraced Iss-laam. Sikhs consider him an auotar – a derivate of otar in Punjabi that means to come down or descend. It is like a rasool in Arabic or messenger in English. It is used for a recipient of divine inspirations or messages.

Baba Nanak went to Mekka to perform the once-a-lifetime-worship of a Moslem (See Commentary 5 Acts of worships or pillars of Islam). He was appalled during his Middle East travels when he saw members of his new community violating their own Teachings of Islam.

He found that remembrance of God Almighty repeatedly exhorted in the Holy Qor-aan was conspicuously missing among Moslems. He noticed ignorance prevail all around Moslem countries he visited. He saw beggary rampant, beggars begging everywhere, able-bodied men trying to live on the charity of others without doing any work. He felt urged to get rid of evil that had entered what the Holy Qor-aan had created. A new religion named Sikh (Khaalsa) was born.

  1. To eradicate illiteracy, he mandated his disciples to sikh (‘learn’ in Punjabi) and keep learning all the time as perpetuated in the prayer ‘God add to my knowledge’ (020:115).
  2. To develop economic independence, he mandated working and not beggary as the means to provide food, clothing and shelter. Millions of Sikhs all over the world always work and earn livelihood without many, if any at all, begging charity for subsistence.
  3. To keep on right road, he led his followers to call each other a Khalaysa (In Punjabi ‘one who remembers God Almighty exclusively, purely, totally or wholly). The same word with the same meaning appears in the Holy Qor-aan (038:047).
  4. To help devotees remember God khaalisataun, he set up in Golden Temple (India) a free food service (Langar). It has continued for several centuries. The massacre by a Britisher killing hundreds, if not thousands, including unarmed kids and women in 1930’s didn’t stop it. Anthony Bourdain broadcast that in a CNN documentary. In Slough (England) I saw Sikhs practice their faith in a temple as they still do in Nankana Sahib (Pakistan).

In 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan I observed while buying dry fruit that Sikhs practically dominated the entire dry-fruit market, and Moslems begged for charity from those Sikh shops.

In 1980’s in Mo and in 1990’s in Pa, USA I met Indian Sikhs who swore that nowhere in the world a Sikh could be seen begging. Sikh Faith requires to earn by working and not begging.

In 1990’s in Philadelphia, USA I had Sikh clients in my Law practice. I saw them not to beg. Never once any of them failed to pay the Attorney fee for services rendered. Never once any defaulted paying the scheduled payment when that had been prearranged.

In 2000’s in San Francisco, USA I rode with a Sikh cabdriver. He was born in China in a diplomat’s home, had never been to Punjab but fluently spoke Chinese and Punjabi like English.

Many jewels of the Teachings of Islam shine gloriously in the crown of Sikh Faith.

Evolution of Religions

 

All people are of one kind (002:214).  So the message to them by their Creator must also be the same.  Really man is given the same one message, Book (002:003) or Code consisting of the eternally applicable laws of universal application.

 

Man in his evolutionary stages resembled a newborn who could easily choke if fed solids and fruits.  Of necessity during that physically vulnerable stage he is breastfed or nursed in the similar mode.  The same way during Man’s stages of intellectual growth he could not be given all the knowledge.  Only that part of Eternal Code was passed to him that he could understand and put into practice.

 

The Creator knew that man during primitive stages could not comprehend all He had in store for him.  Whether man crawled out of water or lived on trees or caves he needed time to grow and evolve.  As he became aware of the forces of natural elements he started to beg them for warmth and rain.  The stars, the moon, the sun (006:077 to 006:079), the earth, the air, the water, he worshiped all.  The definition of the word Saa-aiy-eena (002:63) fits such worshipers.

 

Man ascribed each need to a different deity and made thousands of them to worship, beg from and beseech.  Recognized the world over is the prophet Abraham who realized (006:080) that He Who created (006:097 and 098) was the Master of all those elements (085:010) and was more worthy of worship than His creations that showed them so forceful.  The concept that God is One became established regardless of whether one believes that Abraham was the same man that Hindus call as Brahama and those worshiping him as the Brahmins.  Abraham rejected the deities and the idols that man had set up for each force of Nature.  The idol-worshipers tried (Soorah 085) to punish him — and warn others who might follow such dissidents — by throwing him in the fire (021:069) but Almighty God extinguished the fire (021:070) and saved him.  The followers of Zoroaster who worship ‘the fire’ that was cooled down and other off-shoots of the Hindus such as Buddhists and Jain essentially believe in the One Supreme Being.

 

Chronologically many centuries later prophet Moses advanced the mission of Abraham. He managed to remove malpractices like calf-worshiping.  His followers known as the sraelites or Jews still profess, preach and practice the Oneness of God Almighty.

 

About six centuries later a well-known Jewish man Jesus son of Mary preached that God is One and all people are equal.  Many followed him, took on his name Christ and are known as Christians. Thus the Judaism evolved into Christianity except those who stayed behind as Jews.

 

About six centuries later another man named Mohammed s.a.w received the complete Book (005:004) in the form of the Holy Qor-aan.  Many worshippers of One God went with the flow of evolution and became Moslems except those who remained adherents of prior faiths.

 

Next fourteen centuries saw several sages follow the Holy Qor-aan in their own ways. Some as Mojuddids reformed parts of Islaam and remained Moslems, like the Ahmadies.  But others founded new religions like Bhais and Sikhs of today.  Certainly many more will follow.
