The Holy Qor-aan 007:066
وَاِلٰى عَادٍ اَخَاهُمۡ هُوۡدًا ؕ قَالَ يٰقَوۡمِ اعۡبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡ اِلٰهٍ غَيۡرُهٗ ؕ اَفَلَا تَتَّقُوۡنَ
Wa aiy-laa aa-din aa-khaa hoom
Qaa-la yaa qao-may ay-bo-doo l-laa-ha
Maa la koom min aiy-laa-hin ghai-ro hoo
Aa fa laa taut-ta-qoo-n
And to Aad We sent their brother Hoo-od.
He said, “Listen my people! Worship Allah.
You have no god to worship other than him.
Then why don’t you become pious?”

- اَخَا — Aa-khaa — Brother (= n., Male son to the same parents. Also, Tribesman. Member of the same tribe or group of people. A/t/a, ‘one of their (own) brethren’ and ‘compatriot’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- هُوۡدًا — Hoo-daun — Hoo-od (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a, ‘Hud’ and ‘Houd’)

- قَالَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; informed; explained; specified; told. Also commanded; directed; instructed; mandated; ordered. See 002:031. A/t/a, ‘he exhorted them’)
- يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; A/t/a, ‘O’)
- قَوۡمِ — Qao-may … (aiy) — People (= n., s., Addressees; attendees; fellows. See قَوۡمِ above. A/t/a, ‘My people’)
- اعۡبُدُوا — Aiy-bo-do … (ol) — You worship (= v. pres., pl, 2nd person. Beseech; live in the given lifestyle; pray; praise; sincerely. A/t/a, ‘serve’)
- ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- مَاۤ — Maa — No (= Absolutely none)
- لَ — La — For (= For the person, concerning; relative to)

- مِّنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
- اِلٰهٍ — Aiy-laa-hin — God (= n., A deity, object, person or value worthy of worship)
- غَيۡرُ — Ghai-ro — Other than (= Besides; else; excluding; not; other than; out of; prohibiting; without. A/t/a, ‘other than,’ ‘have no other,’ ‘no other … than,’ ‘no other … save,’ ‘no other … but’ and ‘but’)
- هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God. A/t/a, ‘but Him,’ ‘He,’ and ‘but Him. (la ilaha illallah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)’
- اَ — Aa — Why (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did, have; had, shell, should, will, would, what, etc. A/t/a, ‘will you’ and ‘Will ye’)
- فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet
- لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
- تَتَّقُوۡنَ — Taut-ta-qoon — You become pious (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. ‘avoid angering Allah’, ‘act piously and righteously’, ‘become God-fearing and righteous,’ ‘clean inner self’, ‘do duty to God’, ‘guard against or ward off evil.’ See Commentary The Righteous.
