The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                            007:133

 

وَقَالُوۡا مَهۡمَا تَاۡتِنَا بِهٖ مِنۡ اٰيَةٍ لِّـتَسۡحَرَنَا بِهَا ۙ فَمَا نَحۡنُ لَكَ بِمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa  qaa-loo  mauh-maa  tau-tay  naa  bay  he
Min  aa-ya-tin  lay  taus-ha-ra  naa  bay  haa
Fa  maa  nauh-no  la  ka  bay  moe-may-nee-n

 

And they said, “What is that you came to us with
From among the signs with which you bewitch us?
Then know that we are not believers for you.”

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; but; moreover; though; when; whereupon; while;  yet. Not translated by several authors)
  • قَا لُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl., m., 3rdperson: All those men announced,        called, declared or told. See Note 002:012. A/t/a, They said to Moses’ and ‘they said [to Musa (Moses)])
  • مَهۡمَا — Mauh-maa — What is that (= A/t/a, ‘whatever’ and ‘whatsoever’ )
  • تَاۡتِ — Tau-tay — You come (= v., pres., s., 2nd person.. Arrive; bring or come up; enter; produce and prove as true; reach; show; turn up. See Note 002:201. A/t/a, ‘thou mayest bring,’ ‘Thou bringest,’ ’you may bring’ and ‘you bring to’)
  • نَآ  — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. A/t/a, ‘on us’)
  • بِ  —  Bay — With (= The best translation of the word بِ is with. A/t/a, For this and next word jointly ‘therewith)
  • هٖ — He — It  (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind of several articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • اٰيَةٍ — Aa-ya-tin — Sign (= n., s., An argument, command, code, corroboration, direction, evidence, indication, instruction, law, lesson,  message, narrative, order, pointer, portent, proof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token.. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘portent,’  ‘miracle’ and ‘Ayat … (their usual words)
  • لِ –Lay — For (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding;  relative to; to; towards; unto. See 002:003a. A/t/a, ‘to’ and ‘work’)
  • تَسۡحَرَ — Taus-ha-ra — You bewitch   (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Bewitch. Enchant. Play magic.  A/t/a, ‘charm,’ ‘delude,’ ‘cast a spell upon,’ enchant’ and ‘confound.’ But the nouns in ‘thy sorcery’ and ‘your sorcery’ have not translated the verb in the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word means ‘with.’ See  بِ  above. A/t/a, ‘[This and the next word together] ‘therewith’ and ‘wherewith’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid group. A/t/a, ‘it’)
  • فَ — Fa  —  So / Then (= After all this; as a result; at the end; but; consequently; hence; in conclusion; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus; yet. See 002:027)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — No (= Never; no; not at all. A/t/a, ‘not,’ ‘never,’  ‘not … at all,’ ‘will not’ and ‘shall not’)
  • نَحۡنُ — Nah-no — We (= pro., pl., m/f., 1st person.  We. Us)
  • لَ  — La — For (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to. Also, Belonging to. In the control of. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • كَ  — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You . A/t/a, ‘thee’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word means with. See بِ above. A/t/a, ‘in’ and ‘to’)
  • مُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ — Moe-may-nee-n — Believers (= n,. pl., Adherents of Islam. Those who enter the Faith, believe and follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Iss-laam and become Moslems. Men of faith. The faithful. A/t/a, ‘believe,’ ‘submit,’ ‘be believers’  and ‘put faith but the verb used there is no translation of the noun in the Holy Qor-aan text)

 

** Note 007:133. The translation of this verse in lesser number of words is as follows. They said,You brought us a sign to bewitch us but we are not believers in you.”
