The Holy Qor-aan 007:134
فَاَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمُ الطُّوۡفَانَ وَالۡجَـرَادَ وَالۡقُمَّلَ وَالضَّفَادِعَ وَالدَّمَ اٰيٰتٍ مُّفَصَّلٰتٍ فَاسۡتَكۡبَرُوۡا وَكَانُوۡا قَوۡمًا مُّجۡرِمِيۡنَ
Fa aur-saul-naa alai-hay-mo ot-too-faa-na
Wa ul-ja-raa-da wa ul-qoom-ma-la
Wa udz-dza-faa-day-aa wa ud-da-ma
Aa-yaa-tin-m mo-faus-sa-laa-tin fa us-tauk-ba-roo
Wa kaa-noo qao-maun-m mooj-ray-mee-n
Then We sent upon them the storm
And the locusts and the lice
And the frogs and the blood
As manifest signs. Then they boasted.
And they had been criminal people.

- اسۡتَكۡبَرُوۡا — Aus-tauk-ba-roo — They boasted (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Acted arrogantly.. Behaved boastfully. Bragged haughtily. Deemed himself too big and proud. Prided. Puffed with pride. Scorned. Smug or smitten with complex. Took pride. Were egotist, pride-stricken and vanity rich.
