The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                            004:125

 

 وَمَنۡ يَّعۡمَلۡ مِنَ الصّٰلِحٰتِ مِنۡ ذَكَرٍ اَوۡ اُنۡثٰى وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنٌ فَاُولٰٓٮِٕكَ يَدۡخُلُوۡنَ الۡجَـنَّةَ وَلَا يُظۡلَمُوۡنَ نَقِيۡرًا‏

 

Wa-mun-yau-mul-maynus-sua-lay-haa-tay                                                                                  Min-za-ka-rin-auo-oon-thaa-wa-ho-wa-moe-may-noon                                                              Fa-o-laa-aiy-ka-yud-kho-loo-nul-jun-na-ta                                                                                    Wa-laa-yooz-la-moo-na-na-qee-raa

 

Whoever practices any from the righteous deeds                                                Among a male or a female and is a believer                                                                  Then they all will enter the Paradise                                                                              And will not be wronged the least bit

           

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • يَّعۡمَلۡ — Yau-mul — Does (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Acts; performs; practices; does; renders; works. A/t/a, ‘do’ and ‘doth’)
  • مِنَ — May-n(us) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • الصّٰلِحٰتِ — Sua-lay-haa-tay — Good deeds (= n., pl., f. Acts, deeds, performances, practices or works which are commendable, good, holy, noble, pious, proper, righteous, upright or virtuous. Appropriate actions. Proper practices. Worthy works. A/t/a, ‘deeds of righteousness,’ ‘righteous good deeds,’ ‘good deeds’ and ‘good works’)

                                    The next four (4) words are the same as in the verses 003:196

  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several; whether. A/t/a, ‘Be’)
  • ذَكَرٍ — Za-ka-rin –Male (= n., Man; human being in masculine gender)
  • اَوۡ — Auo — Or (= Alternatively; in substitution)
  • اُنۡثٰى‌‌ — Oon-thaa — Female (= Person of feminine gender; woman)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He; him; it. Aforesaid person. A/t/a, ‘he or she‘ and ‘provided he (or she)’ 
  • مُؤۡمِنٌ — Moe-may-noon — He believer  (= n., s., m., One who follows the Holy Qor-aan;  who has embraced Islaam; a Moslem. A/t/a, ‘have faith’ and ‘is a (true) believer [in the Oneness of Allah (Muslims)’
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; resultantly; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — They all (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things. A/t/a, ‘such,’  ‘they’ and ‘it is those’)  
  • يَدۡخُلُوۡنَ — Yud-kho-loo-na(ul) — They enter (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Arrive. Gain admittance. Get admitted or allowed in. Reach. A/t/a, ‘such shall enter,’ ‘shall enter’ and ‘will enter.’ But ‘shall be admitted’ is an expression in the passive voice and so an inaccurate translation of a verb in the active voice)
  • الۡجَـنَّةَ — Jun-na-ta — The Paradise (= n., s., Big grove; Coppice. Thicket. See Commentary The Paradise. A/t/a, ‘Heaven,’ ‘Garden’ and ‘the gardens of Paradise’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘not the least’)
  • يُظۡلَمُوۡنَ — Yooz-la-moo-na — Be wronged (= v. pres., pass., pl., 3rd person Dealt unjustly; done or shown injustice; given diminished return; harmed; paid less than due, paid less than full; shorted; transgressed. A/t/a, ‘injustice Will be done,’ ‘will .. be dealt  with,’ ‘wronged,’ ‘treated unjustly,’ ‘shall .. be deal unjustly’ and ‘injustice … shall be done to them.’  But translating this passive voice verb into an active voice verb as ‘they shall … suffer injustice’ is inaccurate)
  • نَقِيۡرًا — Na-qe-raa — The least bit (= n., Insignificant, miniscule, practically worthless thing of little value like a penny. Smallest amount like a bit, iota, jot or whit. Tiniest bit. Value of a quantity which could fill the tiny little curvature on a date-stone. Most  authors have translated this word in verses 004:054 and 004:125 with different verbiage. They have translated the word for this verse as follows — ‘the least,’ ‘a whit unjustly,’ ‘a whit,’ ‘the dint in a date-stone,’ ‘(so much as) the groove in a date-stone,’ ‘even as much as the little hollow in the back of a date-stone’ and ‘(spec on the back of date stone’)

 لَـيۡسَ بِاَمَانِيِّكُمۡ وَلَاۤ اَمَانِىِّ اَهۡلِ الۡـكِتٰبِ‌ ؕ  مَنۡ يَّعۡمَلۡ سُوۡٓءًا يُّجۡزَ بِهٖ ۙ  وَ لَا يَجِدۡ لَهٗ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيًّا وَّلَا نَصِيۡرًا‏

 

Lai-sa-bay-amaa-nee-yay-koom-wa                                                                                                  Laa-amaa-ne-yay-ah-lil-kay-taa-bay                                                                                              Mun-yau-mul-soo-un-yooj-za-bay-he                                                                                            Wa-laa-ya-jid-la-hoo-min-doo-nil-laa-hay                                                                                  Wa-lee-yun-wa-laa-na-see-raa

 

(It will occur)                                                                                                                                Not with the wishful thinking of you and                                                                          Not with the wishful thinking of the people of Book.                                                      He who does evil shall be paid back with it.                                                                And he will not find for him other than Allah                                                                    A friend, and not even a helper

           

  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa —  Not (= Absolute denial; never; not; not at all; total negation. A/t/a, ‘Not … (can prevail),’ ‘It will not,’ ‘It shall not’ and ‘It is not … that shall prevail’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘be in accordance with,’ ‘according to’ and ‘(the Salvation shall not be according to’)
  • اَمَانِيِّ — Amaa-nee-yay — Wishful thinking (= n., pl., Baseless, false, mere, silly, vague or beliefs, desires, fancies, fallacies, ideas, imaginations, notions, thoughts, wants, whims, wishes. Crammed up things one likes. Whatever one pleases.Wishful thinking. A/t/a, ‘desires,’ ‘vain desires’ and ‘wishful thinking’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. Generally this is the way the Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women.  A/t/a, ‘your … (Muslims)’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘nor according to’ and ‘not with’)
  • اَمَانِيِّ — Amaa-nee-yay — Wishful thinking (= n., pl., A/t/a, ‘wishes.’ See اَمَانِيِّ above)
  • اَهۡلِ — Ah-l(il) — People of (= Believers in and users of; families; folks; masters; owners; those entrusted to)
  • الۡكِتٰبِ —  (I)l-kay-taa-bay — The Book (= The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions, Rules and Regulations. Holy Scripture. A/t/a, ‘earlier Scripture’ and ‘people of the Scripture’ (Jews and Christians)’
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; who; whom; whoso. A/t/a, ‘whosoever’)
  • يَّعۡمَلۡ — Yau-mul — He does (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Acts; does; performs; practices; renders; works. A/t/a, ‘doth’)
  • سُوۡٓءًا — Soo-un– Evil (= n., s., Crime; cruelty; error; harm; illegality, injury; misdeed, mistake; wickedness; wrong. Of worst kind. Something bad, foul, horrible, grievous, improper, intentional, indecent, poor, repulsive, severe, terrible, unacceptable, undesirable, unpleasant or vicious consequence, incident, occurrence, result, thing. Worst possible. Sometimes used for a single unintended wrong committed accidentally or forgetfully)
  • يُّجۡزَ — Yooj-za — Paid back (= v., pres., pass., s.m., 3rd person. Awarded; compensated;  reimbursed. A/t/a, ‘Requited,’ ‘have the recompense,’ ‘recompensed,’ ‘for’ and ‘rewarded’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘accordingly’ and ‘thereof’)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid evil)
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)

The following twelve [except for the 3rd and 5th for the singular] words are also in 004:174

  • لَا — Laa — Does / will not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute  denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘there shall be none’)
  • يَجِدۡ — Ya-jid — He finds (= v., pres., s.,3rd person. Comes upon; discovers; notices;  perceives; realizes; receives; sees. Also, affords; gets or lacks the means)
  • لَ — La — For (= Because of; concerning; due to; for the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; on account of; regarding; relative to)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • دُوۡنِ — Doo-n(il) — Other than (= Apart from; besides; beyond; except; excluding; exclusive of; in preference to; other than; over and above; save; to the exclusion of the rest of. A/t/a, ‘beside’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَلِيًّ۬ا — Wa-lee-yun — A friend (= n., s., Best, genuine, real, sincere, total and true … aide, assistant, friend, guardian, helper, patron, protector; supporter; well-wisher; whoever is there to heed when asked for, begged, called or hollered in need. A/t/a, ‘protecting friend.’ But ‘to protect’ is a verb and no translation of the noun that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
  • وَّ — Wa — And  (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لَا — Laa — Not even (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • نَصِيۡرًا — Na-see-raa — A helper (= n., Helper; supporter. A/t/a, helpful; supportive; ‘protector.’ But ‘help’ is a verb and no translation of the noun that the Holy Qor-aan has used.

  وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ سَنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ جَنّٰتٍ تَجۡرِىۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِهَا الۡاَنۡهٰرُ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاۤ اَبَدًا‌ ؕ  وَعۡدَ اللّٰهِ حَقًّا‌ ؕ  وَمَنۡ اَصۡدَقُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ قِيۡلًا‏

 

Wul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-wa-amay-loos-suaa-lay-haa-tay                                                  Sa-nood-khay-lo-hoom-jun-naa-tin-tuj-re-min                                                                            Tah-tay-hul-un-haa-ro                                                                                                                        Khaa-lay-dee-na-fee-haa-aba-daa                                                                                                    Wau-dul-laa-hay-huq-qun                                                                                                                  Wa-mun-us-da-qo-may-nul-laa-hay-qee-laa

   

And those who believed and did good deeds                                                                  Soon We will enter them in the Paradise                                                                Flowing underneath it will be the streams of water                                                    They living in it forever                                                                                                              Allah has promised them the Truth                                                                                  And who can be truer in word than Allah?

 

The first nineteen (19) words of both verses 004:058 and 004:123 are the same         

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon. A/t/a, ‘as far’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ulla-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person.  Refers to the believers)
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed  (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan, became Moslems and entered in the Faith of Isslaam — See the explanation in our Commentary Islam – 101 and Note 002:026c. One author translated the word rightly as ‘believed,’ but many others did that as ‘believe,’ ‘believe (in the Oneness of Allah -Islamic Monotheism)’ or ‘have faith’ as a verb in the present tense although the Holy Qor-aan has stated the fact in the past tense)   
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • عَمِلُوا — Amay-loo(s) — Practiced (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Acted; did; led; made effort;  performed; worked; followed proper pursuits, stayed upright or practiced deeds of righteousness. A/t/a ‘do’ but that translated a verb in the present tense when the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • الصّٰلِحٰتِ — Suaa-lay-haa-tay — Proper acts (= n., pl., Appropriate, good, holy, pious, proper, right, righteous, upright, virtuous or worthy acts, actions, deeds, practices, performances or works which are righteous; ‘worked righteousness.’ A/t/a, ‘deeds of righteousness,’ ‘good deeds’ and ‘good works’)
  • سَ — Sa — Soon (= The one-lettered word that turns a present tense verb into a verb in the near term or future; in a short while; quickly; swiftly; very closely; without too long a wait. A/t/a, definitely; surely; ‘shall’)
  • نُدۡخِلۡ — Nood-khay-lo — We will enter (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Admit, agree, allow or assent to entry; let; permit. A/t/a, ‘make them enter’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid doers of the good)
  • جَنّٰتٍ — Jun-naa-tin — Paradise (= pl., Big groves; gardens; orchards. See also our Commentary titled as The Paradise)
  • تَجۡرِىۡ — Tuj-ree — Flowing (= v., pres., f. 3rd person. Being irrigated by running water; running irrigation water; sailing water. A/t/a, ‘flow,’ ‘served with running’ and ‘watered by running’)
  •  مِنۡ — Min — From (= From the class, category, count, kind, person or out of)
  • تَحۡتِ — Tah-tay — Underneath (= Below; beneath; on lower level; A/t/a,’through’ or ‘under which’)
  • هَا — Haa…(ul) — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to the Paradise)
  • الۡاَنۡهٰرُ — Un-haa-ro — Streams (= Bodies of water; rivers; streams)
  • خٰلِدِيۡنَ — Khaa-lay-de-na — Living (= n., Those who abide, dwell or reside. Adding the words everlastingly, for ever after, forever, permanently and perpetually are appropriate only for the residents of the Paradise such as those mentioned in verses 002:083003:016004:014 and 064:010. See the Note 002:040. A/t/a, ‘to dwell,’ ‘to abide,’ ‘abiding’ and ‘they shall abide’ are translations as a verb of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Inside a duration, time, period, place, phenomenon or thing. Concerning. In reference. Regarding. Relative to. A/t/a, ‘therein’ and ‘wherein’ in various translations.
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid Paradise)
  • اَبَدًا — Aa-ba-daa — Forever (= Eternally. Everlastingly. Perpetually. A/t/a, ‘eternal home,’ ‘for ever’ and ‘for ever and ever’)
  • وَعۡدَ — Wau-da..(ul) — Promise (= n., Announcement; assurance; declaration; guarantee; pledge; word)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • حَقًّا — Huq-qun — Truth (= n., Absolute truth; appropriate; fair just; justification; reality. An event that will come to pass no matter what else happens. A reasonableness that must be obeyed as  an order, command or decree. Something proper as well as binding. A/t/a, ‘in truth,’ ‘unfailing,’ ‘which is bound to be filled,’ ‘is the Truth’ and ‘such is the true promise)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whose; whoso)
  • اَصۡدَقُ — Us-da-qo — Truer (= adj., Fair; more truthful; truer)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                     004:122

 

  اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ مَاۡوٰٮهُمۡ جَهَـنَّمُ وَلَا يَجِدُوۡنَ عَنۡهَا مَحِيۡصًا

 

O-laa-aiy-ka-mau-waa-hoom-ja-hun-na-mo                                                                                  Wa-laa-ya-jay-do-na-un-haa-ma-he-saa

 

They all have their home in Hell                                                                                      And they won’t find a way out of it

 

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — They all (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things. A/t/a, ‘They (his dupes,’ ‘For such,’ ‘such (people),’ “These are they’ and ‘It is these (- his dupes)’
  • مَاۡوٰ — Mau-waa — Home (= n., Abode; destination; dwelling; habitation; home; housing; residence; refuge; resting place; ultimate end of journey)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men, they or their)
  • جَهَـنَّمُ — Ja-hun-na-mo — Hell (= Blazing Fire. Purgatory; Gehenna; hell-fire. Also the hellish life in this world)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — Won’t (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يَجِدُوۡنَ — Ya-jay-do-na — They find (= v., pres., pl.,3rd person. Come upon; discover; find;  get; notice; perceive; realize; receive)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        004:121

 

 يَعِدُهُمۡ وَيُمَنِّيۡهِمۡ‌  ؕ  وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيۡـطٰنُ اِلَّا غُرُوۡرًا‏

 

Ya-aiy-do  hoom  wa-yo-maun-nee  him                                                                                            Wa  maa  ya-aiy-do  ho-mo  osh-shai-taa-no  il-laa  gha-roo-raa

 

He promises them. And arouses them.                                                                          And Satan’s promises are nothing except illusion.

 

  •  يَعِدُ — Ya-aiy-do — Promises (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Assures; guarantees; gives   out or holds out his word; incites; lures; pledges; prompts; spurs; swears; tempts; undertakes; urges; vouches. A/t/a, ‘makes promises,’ ‘promiseth’ and ‘holds out promises’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men, they or their)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • يُمَنِّيۡ — Yo-maun-nee — Arouses (= v., pres., s, m., 3 rd person. Agitates, animates, enlivens; electrifies, enthuses, excites; fans, incites, initiates in, instigates, motivate, moves, originates, provokes, stimulates, stirs or winds up in them impractical, lusty,  mean or useless desires. A/t/a, ‘creates … false desires,’ ‘creates … vain desires.’ ‘excites vain desires,’ ‘stirreth up desires,’ ‘stirs up … vain desires,’ ‘raises vain desires,’ ‘arouses false hopes’ and ‘arouses false desires’)

  • الشَّيۡـطٰنُ —  Shai-taa-no — The Satan (= n., s., A bad, evil or false deity, friend, leader or Satanic companion. The devil. The Evil Embodiment. The evil One. The evil spirited person. The evil personified. Polytheist. Rebellious ringleader. Also, a hypocrite; an idol-worshiper)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa  — Except (= Apart from; but; besides; except; excluding; save. A/t/a,  ‘nothing but’ and ‘only’)
  • غُرُوۡرًا‏ — Gho-roo-raa — Illusion  (= n., Deceit. Deception. Dishonesty. False impression. Lure. Misleading. Sham. Trickery. Vanity with a  superficial exterior and no reality deep down in the interior. See Note 003:186.  A/t/a, ‘vain things,’ ‘to beguile,’ ‘to deceive’ and ‘delusion’)

 وَّلَاُضِلَّـنَّهُمۡ وَلَاُمَنِّيَنَّهُمۡ وَلَاٰمُرَنَّهُمۡ فَلَيُبَـتِّكُنَّ اٰذَانَ الۡاَنۡعَامِ وَلَاٰمُرَنَّهُمۡ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلۡقَ اللّٰهِ ؕ‏    وَمَنۡ يَّتَّخِذِ الشَّيۡطٰنَ وَلِيًّا مِّنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ فَقَدۡ خَسِرَ خُسۡرَانًا مُّبِيۡنًا ؕ‏

 

Wa  la  o-dzil-lun-na  hoom  wa  la  o-mun-nay-yun-na  hoom                                                    Wa  la  aa-mo-run-na  hoom  fa  la  yo-but-tay-koon-na  aa-zaa-na  ul-un-aa-may            Wa  la-aa-mo-run-na  hoom  fa  la  yo-ghuy-yay-roon-na  khaul-qa  ul-laa-hay                  Wa  mun  yaut-ta-khay-zay  ish-shai-taa-na  wa-lee-yun                                                            M in  do-nay  il-laa-hay  fa  qud  kha-say-ra  khoos-raa-naun  mo-be-naa

 

(The Satan continuing his ranting said:)                                                                          And I certainly will mislead them, and I certainly will arouse them,                    And I certainly will commend them so that they will cut the cattle’s ears              And I certainly will commend them so that they will modify Allah’s creation.    And whoever takes the Satan as the true friend                                                                Other than Allah, then indeed he has lost an obviously big loss.

  • خَسِرَ — Kha-say-ra — Lost (= v., past., s., 3rd person.  Caused loss or harm; destroyed; failed; gone; harmed in big way; suffered loss; wasted. A/t/a, ‘suffered.’ But ‘is a loser’ which is a noun, and ‘suffers’ and ‘ruins himself’ which are verbs in the present tense, are no translations of what the Holy Qor-aan has used as a verb in the past tense)
  • خُسۡرَانًا — Khoos-raa-nun Loss (= n., s., Disadvantage; loss)
  • مُّبِيۡنًا‏ — Mo-bee-na — Obvious (= adj., Apparent; clear; evident; flagrant; glaring; gross; lucid; manifest; obvious; open; palpable; patent, unambiguous; unmistakable. A situation that is avowed, cleared, declared, marked or sworn to be without any blemish, hindrance or obstruction which could cloud or fog the view. Also as an adv: clearly; evidently; grossly; manifestly; obviously; openly. A/t/a, ‘hath of surety’ and ‘beyond redemption’)

 

** Note 004:120. The meanings of the phrase يُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلۡقَ اللّٰهِ  (= alter the creation of Allah) obviously include the crossbreeding of animal life, grafting of plant life and modification of the seeds done by the big pharmaceutical industry.

However, Malik Ghulam Farid stated as follows in his Note 673:

  1. Defying God’s creation
  2. Changing and corrupting the religion of God
  3. Deforming or disfiguring the body of a new-born child
  4. Turning to evil use that which Allah has created for good use

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       004:119

 

  لَّـعَنَهُ اللّٰهُ‌ ۘ  وَقَالَ لَاَ تَّخِذَنَّ مِنۡ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيۡبًا مَّفۡرُوۡضًا ۙ‏

 

La-aa-na-hool-laa-ha-wa-qaa-la                                                                                                    La-ut-ta-khay-za-min-ebaa-day-ka-na-se-bun-muf-roo-dzaa

 

Allah cursed him. And he (Satan) said,                                                                                “I surely will take out a definite part from Your servants.”

 

  • لَعَنَ — La-aa-na — Cursed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Blighted; condemned; deprived of God’s mercy; disapproved; doomed; imposed bad luck; inflicted wrath; on whom curse was invoked; placed under curse.   • عِبَا دِ — Ebaa-day — Servants (= n., pl., Believers who worship earnestly; bondsmen; obedient people; servants; slaves; subservient; supplicants; those who worship)
  • كَ — Ka — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You. Ref to God Almighty. A/t/a, ‘Thy’)
  • نَصِيۡبًا — Na-se-bun(m) — A part (= n., Less than the whole; portion; section; share. Also, benefit; fortune; recompense; reward. A/t/a, ‘a number’)
  • مَّفۡرُوضً۬ا — Muf-roo-za — Definite (= adj., Certain; definite; determinate; specific; sure. Also, fixed; made obligatory; mandated; predetermined; specified; well-defined. A/t/a, ‘marked off,’ fixed,’ ‘an appointed’ and ‘due’)

 

** Note 004:119: Satan’s goal is to beguile, mislead and ruin people. His means to entrap and methods to corrupt are innumerable. He is busy doing his job continually, consistently.

Satan takes out of mankind one part at a time. He catches, captures and captivates them at their weakest moments of enjoying a happiness or suffering a sadness. That is the time when man is most vulnerable and Satan can push him down the cliff with ever so slight a nudge.

The best translation of this verse is “I surely will take out a definite part from Your servants.” And the next verse shows how Satan goes on ranting.

  اِنۡ يَّدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اِلَّاۤ اِنٰـثًـا‌ ۚ   وَاِنۡ يَّدۡعُوۡنَ اِلَّا شَيۡـطٰنًا مَّرِيۡدًا  ۙ  

 

In-yud-oo-na-min-do-nay-he-il-laa-aiy-naa-thaa                                                                      Wa-in-yud-oo-na-il-laa-shai-taa-num-re-daa

 

Surely they call on other than Him none except substitutes                                And surely they call on none except Satan, the Rejected

 اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ اَنۡ يُّشۡرَكَ بِهٖ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُوۡنَ ذٰ لِكَ لِمَنۡ يَّشَآءُ‌ ۚ وَمَنۡ يُّشۡرِكۡ بِاللّٰهِ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلٰلًاۢ بَعِيۡدًا

 

In-na  ul-laa-ha  laa  yaugh-fay-ro  un  yoosh-ra-ka  bay  he                                                      Wa  yaugh-fay-ro  maa  do-na  zaa-lay-ka  lay  ma-un  ya-shaa-o                                            Wa  maun  yoosh-rik  bay  il-laa-hay                                                                                                  Fa  qaud  dzul-la  dza-laa-laun  le-lun  ba-ee-daa

 

Allah certainly does not forgive that any partner is set up with Him                    And He forgives all that is other than that for anyone He chooses                    And whoever sets up partner with Allah                                                                          Has indeed strayed a straying gone very far

This verse – except for its last three (3) words – is repeated as 004:049

 وَمَنۡ يُّشَاقِقِ الرَّسُوۡلَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَـهُ الۡهُدٰى وَ يَـتَّبِعۡ غَيۡرَ سَبِيۡلِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ نُوَلِّهٖ مَا تَوَلّٰى وَنُصۡلِهٖ جَهَـنَّمَ‌  ؕ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيۡرًا ‏   

 

Wa-mun-yo-shaa-qay-qir-ra-soo-la                                                                                            Min-bau-day-maa-ta-buy-yun-na-la-hool-ho-daa                                                                    Wa-yut-ta-bay-ghai-ra-sa-be-lil-moe-may-ne-na                                                                      No-wul-lay-he-ma-ta-wul-laa-wa-noos-lay-he-ja-hun-na-ma                                                    Wa-saa-ut-ma-se-raa

 

And one who opposes the Messenger                                                                            After what became distinct to him as the guidance                                                        And follows other than the believers’ way                                                                          We turn him towards what he turns and burn him in Hell.                                      And that’s a bad place to return.

  • غَيۡرَ — Ghai-ra — Other than (= Besides; else; excluding; not; other than; out of;  prohibiting; without. A/t/a, ‘other than that becoming to’ and ‘other than’)
  • سَبِيۡلٍ — Sa-bee-l(il) — Way (= n., Meanings of this word include (a) Course; lines; path; road; way; (b) Cause; excuse; means; measure; pretext; (c) Direction; life-style; mission; religion; way of life. See more in Note 004:089)
  • الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ — Moe-may-ne-na — The believers (= n,. Adherents of Islam; those who enter the Faith, believe and follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and become Moslems. Men of faith. The faithful. A/t/a, ‘men of Faith’)
  • نُوَلِّ — No-wul-lay — We turn (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Leave, let or turn someone to  pursue a direction. The root carries the meanings to accompany, aid, assist, befriend, choose direction, guard, help; let go, protect, pursue, represent, support, turn or wish well. A/t/a, ‘We shall leave,’ ‘We turn,’ ‘We will turn … over,’ ‘We appoint for,’ ‘We shall let … pursue,’ ‘We will let … pursue,’ ‘shall be given’ and ‘We shall keep him’)  
  • هٖ — He — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the aforesaid person)
  • مَاۤ  — Maa — Towards what (= All that; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ‘that to which,’ ‘that unto which’ and ‘the way which’)
  • تَوَلّٰى — Ta-wul-laa — He turns (= v., pres, s. See نُوَلِّ above. A/t/a, ‘the path he has chosen,’ ‘he (himself) turns,’ ‘pursue the bent of his inclination,’ ‘he is pursuing’ and ‘he is (himself) pursuing.’ But the translations ‘he hath turned,’ ‘he has chosen,’ ‘he has turned to’ and ‘in the path he has chosen’ in the past tense are not of what the Holy Qor-aan stated in the present tense)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • نُصۡلِ — Noos-lay — We will burn (= v., pres., m & f., pl., 1st person. Cook; roast; scorch.  Also, Chastise; penalize; punish; torment; torture. A/t/a, ‘land .. in,’ ‘make … enter,’ ‘expose … unto Hell,’ ‘cast,’ ‘roast’ and ‘burn’)
  • هٖ — He — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the aforesaid person)
  • جَهَنَّمَ — Ja-hun-na-ma — Hell (= Blazing Fire. Purgatory; Gehenna; hell-fire. Also the        hellish life in this world)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • سَآءَتۡ — Saa-ut — Evil (= adj., Abominable; appalling; awful; bad; dire; dreadful; evil;  ghastly; hapless; horrific; immoral; malevolent; miserable; shocking; terrible; unpleasant; wicked; worst possible fate. A/t/a, ‘dismal’)
  • مَصِيۡرًا — Ma-see-raa — Final return (= n., Abode; culmination of a course; destination;  place of eventual return; end; end of a journey or travel; final fate; refuge; resort. A/t/a, ‘journey’s end’ and ‘homecoming’)
