The Holy Qor-aan 004:114
وَلَوۡلَا فَضۡلُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيۡكَ وَرَحۡمَتُهٗ لَهَمَّتۡ طَّآٮِٕفَةٌ مِّنۡهُمۡ اَنۡ يُّضِلُّوۡكَ ؕ وَمَا يُضِلُّوۡنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ وَمَا يَضُرُّوۡنَكَ مِنۡ شَىۡءٍ ؕ وَاَنۡزَلَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡكَ الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡحِكۡمَةَ وَعَلَّمَكَ مَا لَمۡ تَكُنۡ تَعۡلَمُ ؕ وَكَانَ فَضۡلُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيۡكَ عَظِيۡمًا
Wa-lao-la-fudz-lool-laa-hay-alai-ka-wa-rah-ma-to-hoo La-hum-mut-taa-aiy-fa-toon-min-hoom-un-yo-dzil-loo-ka
Wa-maa-yo-dzil-loo-na-il-laa-un-fo-sa-hoom Wa-maa-ya-dzoor-roo-na-ka-min-shai-in
Wa-un-za-laul-laa-ho-alai-kul-kay-taa-ba-wul-hik-ma-ta Wa-ul-la-ma-ka-maa-lum-ta-koon-tau-lum
Wa-kaa-na-fudz-lool-laa-ha-alai-ka-azee-maa
And if the blessing of Allah and His mercy were not on you Surely a group among them had decided that they mislead you.
And they do not mislead except themselves And they do not hurt you in anything at all
And He entrusted you the Book and the Wisdom And He taught you what you did not know before
And the blessing of Allah has always been upon you

- لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would)
- لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘but for,’ ‘Were it not’ and ‘Had not … been’)
- فَضۡلُ — Fuz-lo..(ol) — Blessing / grace (= n., s., Abundance; benevolence; bestowing; blessing; bounty; generosity; goodness; grace; grant; gift; kindness; liberal giving; liberal bestowing; plenteousness)
- اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; over; to; upon)
- كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact any human who practices, professes and presents the teachings of the Holy Qor-aan. A/t/a, ‘thee,’ ‘thee (Mohammad),’ ‘(Prophet!)…you’ and ‘you (O Mohammad s.a.w).’ See the Note in 002:005)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- رَحۡمَتُ — Rah-ma-to — Mercy (= Beneficence. Clemency. Compassion. Condoning. Forgiveness. Intercession. Intervention. Kindness. Leniency. Omitting, relenting or waiving punishment.
- هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
- لَ — La — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; certainly; clearly, definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; really; truly; seriously; verily)
- هَمَّتۡ — Hum-mut — Decided (= v., past., f gender; 3rd person. Chose; decided; deemed; designed; determined; intended; premeditated or made up mind; resolved. Also, dreamed or thought of. A/t/a, ‘would have succeeded in their design,’ ‘plotted,’ ‘designed’ and ‘would … have made a decision.’ But the translation ‘make up their minds’ in the present tense is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
- طَّآٮِٕفَةٌ — Taa-aiy-fa-toon — A group (= n., Battalion; company; faction; party; regiment; section. A/t/a, ‘a party of those (who are false to themselves)’ and ‘some of them’)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those, them, they men; their)
- اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that)
- يُّضِلُّوۡ — Yo-dzil-loo — They mislead (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Here the word is used for men. It means they fall into error, go astray, lose direction, take wrong road, or misdirect, misguide or mislead themselves or others. See Note 003:070. A/t/a, ‘bring about… ruin’ and ‘to ruin.’ But the translation ‘you would have been led astray’ in the passive voice is not a translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the active voice)
- كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. See كَ above. A/t/a, ‘thee’ and ‘thy’)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. A/t/a, ‘But (in fact).’ See وَ above)
- مَاۤ — Maa — Do not (= Absolutely not; no; never)
- يُضِلُّوۡنَ — Yo-dzil-loo-na — They mislead (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. This word is used for men. See يُّضِلُّوۡ above. A/t/a, ‘they ruin’ and ‘They deceive.’ But the translation ‘led … astray’ is as a verb in the past tense and not of what the Holy Qor-aan stated in the present tense)
- اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; but; besides; excluding; save; unless. A/t/a,’none but’)
- اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= n., pl., Hearts; individuals; minds; own sake; persons; souls)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those, them, they men; their)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- مَاۤ — Maa — Do not (= Absolutely not; no; never. A/t/a, ‘cannot’)
- يَضُرُّوۡنَ — Ya-dzoor-roo-na — Hurt (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Cause trouble; damage; harm; hurt; impose hardship. A/t/a, ‘harm can they do’)
- كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. See كَ above)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
- شَىۡءٍ — Shai-in — Anything at all (= Anything at all however little or insignificant. A whit. Not the least. Smallest part of an article, item, object, material, thing, matter, type, phenomenon or stuff. To the least extent. Also, Some, something or somewhat. A/t/a, in the least,’ ‘in any way’ and ‘at all’)

- اَنۡزَلَ — Un-za-la…(ul) — He entrusted (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Dispatched; gave; granted; inspired, revealed; handed; laid; lowered; sent down. Also, delivered; landed; provided; released; supplied. See the Note 002:005a)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; over; to; upon)

- الۡكِتٰبَ — Ul-kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions and Regulations. Holy Scripture. See verse 002:003. A/t/a, ‘the Book (Qur’an),’ ‘the book (the Qur’an),’ ‘this perfect Book’ and ‘the Scripture.’ See also 004:025)

- الۡحِكۡمَةَ –Hik-ma-ta — The wisdom (= Ability to distinguish good from bad, right from wrong. Appropriate instruction. Comprehension. Intelligence. Understanding. Shrewdness. A/t/a, ‘Al-Hikmah (Islamic laws, knowledge of legal and illegal things, i.e. the Prophets’ Sunnah — legal ways’)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- عَلَّمَ — Ul-la-ma — Taught (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Educated; instructed; taught. A/t/a, ‘teacheth’)

- لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)

- تَعۡلَمُ — Ta-lum — You know (= v., pres., s., 3rd person., A/t/a, ‘you … know,’ ‘knowest’ and ‘thou knowest.’ A/t/a, ‘which you knew not’)
