* Note 002:019.    The whole of the verse 002:019 is repeated at the end of verse 002:172 except for one word.   That word يَرۡجِعُوۡنَۙ (yur-jay-oon) in the instant verse 002:019 means those who won’t return, come back, turn back or revert to the Guidance that is mentioned in the earlier verse 002:017.    That word يَعۡقِلُوۡنَ (yau-qay-loon) in 002:172 means those who won’t act wisely, be smart or use intelligence and understanding mentioned earlier in verse 002:172 and in verse 002:171.    Both these words describe the conditions of the people who are mentioned just before them.    As the described conditions and the people are similar, it is reasonable to say that both these words convey similar messages even when they are not 100% exactly the same.

The word النَّهَارِ (Na-haa-ray = Day) refers to exactly the opposite of the word الَّيۡلِ given above.  The period of daylight enables an onlooker to clearly see the act of charity-giving and the extent and nature of the charity.  It provides an incentive to copy and often serves as an impetus to out-perform the charity-giver’s good deed.

* *Reproduced below is Note 002:005a

Note 002:005a. Some people don’t know (002:119) why does not the Almighty God talk to them directly. Really the Creator knows what are the most appropriate rules by which all His creation must live. In His infinite wisdom He has always entrusted His message to prophets to pass on to the others. The process covered under اُنۡزِلَ (oon-zay-la), اَنۡزَلۡتُ (un-zul-to) or  نَزَّلۡنَا   (nu-zul-naa) is entrustment. He inspires, reveals, provides, pours, sends, dispatches, grants, lays, gives or lowers down Rules. He appoints any of the people He chooses to be His Messengers, Prophets, Apostles or Divines. That phenomenon is best described as entrustment since the word reaches the recipients as a trust. The Prophets initially receive the divine revelations or the Holy entrustment from God Almighty. Then they practice upon the entrusted message inside of their lives, families and circle of friends. They personally practice the teachings and set up precedents which their followers must emulate. They preach and profess their teachings if no occasion has arisen to exemplify them by their acts. Their quotes shine light when no precedent exists to show  how the teachings apply to a situation. They evangelically spread their message to their locality before it gets known by the whole world. Their audience finally grows from their close relations to big and small nations in the entire world. That is why it is imperative that the real intent in the original text is always transmitted faithfully. That process can best be described as entrustment of the message that God entrusts His Divines. That phenomenon is illustrated by several verses including 002:005; 002:024, 002:042, 002:286.

** Reproduced below is the Note 002:134

* Note 002:134.  The verses 002:134 and 002:137 illustrate how the same words used in different set-ups convey different shades of meanings and why the reference to the context is so important in knowing true meanings of a writing.  The words نَحۡنُ لَهٗ   convey the meaning that “we are and forever remain” but are controlled by the word that follows them.  Both these verses end with the word  مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ  which means obedient and submissive.  Both verses end with the same five words.  However, the changed underlying scenario gives different shades to the meanings.

In verse 002:134 the said five words are an assurance by Jacob’s sons following their father’s advice and wish to remain submissive to God. That was several centuries before Islam when they could not be Moslems as adherents of a religion that had not yet come. In the verse 002:137 those five words are an expression of obedience by the Moslems to the Almighty God who had commanded them after the advent of Islam and as the readers of the Holy Qor-aan. So the words used for two different people in two different eras must be translated differently.
