The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                 007:071

 

قَالُـوۡۤا اَجِئۡتَنَا لِنَعۡبُدَ اللّٰهَ وَحۡدَهٗ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعۡبُدُ اٰبَآؤُنَا‌ ۚ فَاۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ اِنۡ كُنۡتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِيۡنَ‏

 

Qaa-loo  aa  jae-ta  naa  lay  nau-bo-da
Al-laa-ha  wauh-da  hoo  wa  na-za-ra
Maa  kaa-naa  yau-bo-do  aa-baa-o  naa
Fa  au-tay-naa  bay-maa  ta-aiy-do  naa
In  koon-ta  may-na  us-saa-day-qee-n

 

 They said, “Is that you came to us for us to worship
Allah, the One God, and we leave
What our forefathers have been worshipping.
Then come to us with (= bring) what you have threatened us
If you were among the truthful.”

 

  • قَا لُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl., m., 3rdperson: All those men announced;      called; declared; told. See our Commentary ‘You say’ means. A/t/a, ‘They retorted’)
  • اَ — Aa — Is (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did, have; had, shell, should, will, would, what, etc. A/t/a, ‘Have,’  ‘Hast’ and ‘would’)
  • جِئۡتَ — Jaye-ta — You came (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Appeared; arrived; brought; delivered; gave; reached; positioned; settled on. A/t/a, ‘comes thou,’ ‘thou come,’ ‘you come, ‘hast come unto’ and ‘you have come’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. We)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘that’)
  • نَعۡبُدَ — Nau-bo-da … (ul) — We worship (= v. pres., pl., 1st person. Beseech; live in given lifestyle; pray sincerely; serve. On lines or way we appreciate, praise, thank, and serve. A/t/a, ‘we may worship,’ ‘we should worship,’ ‘we should serve,’ ‘we may serve’ and ‘us serve’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَحۡدَ — Wauh-da — One (= n., One and Only One. Unique. A/t/a, ‘as the one God,’  ‘alone’ and ‘only’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • نَذَرَ — Na-za-ra — We leave (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Abandon; desert; discard; disown; drop; forsake; renounce. A/t/a, ‘give up,’ ‘forsake,’ ‘should forsake’ and ‘renounce’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘what,’ ‘that which’  and ‘the god which’)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Have been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to;   went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future)
  • يَعۡبُدُ — Yau-b-do — Worshipping (= v. pres., pl., 3rd person. Beseech; live in given lifestyle; pray sincerely; serve. On lines or way we appreciate, praise, thank and serve. A/t/a, ‘worship’ and ‘serve.’ But the noun as in ‘the cult’ and the verb in the past tense as in ‘worshipped’ are no translations of what is stated in the present tense in the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • اٰبَآؤُ — Aa-baa-o –Forefathers (= n., pl., Ancestors; fathers; parents)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • فَ — Fa … (u) — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘Then’ and ‘In that case’)
  • اۡتِ — Au-tay — Come (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Arrive; reach; is raised for or appointed among; receive. A/t/a, ‘Bring us,’ ‘Bring to,’ ‘Bring upon,’ ‘Bring down on’ and ‘bring down the scourge’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — With what (= Combination of two words. بِ  means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ  means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ See 002:092. A/t/a, ‘which,’ ‘what’ ,’ that which,’ ‘that therewith,’ ‘the punishment’ and ‘with which’)
  • تَعِدُ –Ta-aiy-do — You promise (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Assure; guarantee; undertake. A/t/a, ‘thou threatenest … with,’ ‘thou threateneth,’ ‘thou dost threaten … with,’ ‘you threaten … with,’ ‘you threaten’ and ‘you have threatened.’ But the noun as in ‘your threats’ is no translation of the verb in the Holy Qor-aan text )
  • نَآ — Naa– Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; whenever
  • كُنۡتَ — Koon-ta — You were  (= v., past., s., 2nd 1st person. A/t/a, ‘thou,’ ‘thou art’ and ‘you’)
  • مِنَ — May-na … (us) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several. A/t/a, ’of’)
  • الصّٰدِقِيۡنَ‏ — Saa-day-qeen — The truthful (= n., pl., Honest; right; sincere; speaking the truth. A/t/a, ‘the truthful’ and ‘truthful.’ But the verb as in ‘tellest the truth,’ ‘speak the truth’ and ‘say to be true’ is no translation of the noun in the Holy Qor-aan text)
