The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                              007:137

 

فَانْتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَاَغۡرَقۡنٰهُمۡ فِى الۡيَمِّ بِاَنَّهُمۡ كَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَكَانُوۡا عَنۡهَا غٰفِلِيۡنَ‏

 

Fa  un-ta-qaum-naa  min  hoom
Fa  augh-rauq-naa  hoom  fee  il-yaum-may
Bay  aun-naa  hoom  kauz-za-boo  bay  aa-yaa-tay  naa
Wa  kaa-noo  aun  haa  gha-fay-lee-n

 

Then We took revenge from them.
Then We drowned them in the water
With the reason that they had rejected Our signs
And had been unmindful about it.

   

  • فَ  — Fa … (un)  — Then (= After all this; as a result; at the end; but; consequently;    hence; in conclusion; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus; yet)
  • انْتَقَمۡنَا — Aun-ta-qaum-naa — We took revenge (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Avenged. Equated, Inflicted vengeance. The past tense verb for single 3rd  person is now that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘We took vengeance,’ ‘We took Our vengeance,’ ‘We exacted retribution,’ ‘We took retribution’ and ‘We inflicted (the last) punishment’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kinds, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘upon’ and ‘on’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. Refers to Israelites)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this. At e end. See  فَ  above. A/t/a, ‘therefore’)
  • اَغۡرَقۡنَا — Augh-rauq-naa — We drowned (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Dragged down below water. Drowned. Submerged. Sunk. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is now that of plural 1st person as  explained in Note 001:007)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom  — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. See  هُمۡ  above)
  • فِىۡ  — Fee … (il) — In (= Inside. Within. See Note 002:028)
  • ٱلۡيَمِّ –Yaum-may — The water (= n., River; ocean; sea; stream. A/t/a, ‘sea’)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= The best translation of the word  بِ  is with)
  • اَ نَّ — Aun-na — That (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively;                really surely; truly; verily. See Note 002:128. A/t/a, (for this and prior word) ‘because’ and ‘for’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. See  هُمۡ  above)
  • كَذَّ بُوۡا — Kauz-za-boo — They belied (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Belied. Contradicted. Denied; Derided Denounced. Disowned. Disproved. Falsified. Opposed. Misrepresented. Negated. Rejected. Accused of or charged with falsehood. Treated as liars. A/t/a, ‘rejected, ‘rejected … as false,’ ‘treated … as lies,’ ‘cried lies,’ ‘had disbelieved,’ ‘denied’ and ‘they had denied’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= See بِ the above. A/t/a, ‘in’ and ‘to’)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — Signs (= n., pl of an argument, command, code, corroboration, direction, evidence, indication, instruction, law, lesson, message, narrative, order, pointer, portent, proof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a,  ‘revelations,’ ‘messages’ and ‘Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelation, etc.)’
  • نَآ  — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us. We. When used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • وَ —  Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses, additionally; also; but; moreover; though; when; where; while)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., pl., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. See 002:011. A/t/a, ‘were’)
  • عَنۡ — Aun — About (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘from’ and ‘of’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid group, i.e., the Signs. A/t/a, ‘them’)
  • غٰفِلِيۡنَۙ– Ghaa-fa-lee-n — Unmindful (= n., pl. Careless. Heedless. Ignorant. Ill-equipped. Naïve. Oblivious. Reckless. Unacquainted. Unaware. Unmindful. Uninformed. Unqualified. Unsuspecting. Untrained. Unwary. Who do not know. A/t/a, ‘failed to take warning’ and ‘gave no heed’ but those verbs have not translated the noun in the Holy Qor-aan text)
