The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                  003:027

 

قُلِ اللّٰهُمَّ مٰلِكَ الۡمُلۡكِ تُؤۡتِى الۡمُلۡكَ مَنۡ تَشَآءُ وَتَنۡزِعُ الۡمُلۡكَ مِمَّنۡ تَشَآءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَنۡ تَشَآءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَنۡ تَشَآءُ‌ ؕ  بِيَدِكَ الۡخَيۡرُ ‌ؕ اِنَّكَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ قَدِيۡرٌ

 

Qo-lil-laa-hoom-ma-maa-lay-kul-mool-kay                                                                                   Toe-til-mool-ka-mun-ta-shaa-o                                                                                                         Wa-tun-zay-ol-mool-ka-mim-mun-ta-shaa-o                                                                                  Wa-to-iz-zo-mun-ta-shaa-o-wa-to-zil-lo-mun-ta-shaa-o                                                           Bay-ya-day-kul-khair                                                                                                                             In-na-ka-alaa-kool-lay-sha-in-qa-dee-r.

 

You say, “Allah, Our God, Lord of the Supreme Powers                                            You grant the Kinghood whom You please                                                                        You take away the Kinghood from whom You please                                                    And You honor whom You  please and You dishonor whom You please            With Your Hands of the Everlasting Goodness.                                                              Certainly You are in full control of everything.

 

  • قُلِ — Qo-lil — You say (= Pray; beseech; invoke; request; speak; supplicate. Also, Ask; beg; beseech; convey; make a submission; preach; proclaim; profess; request; state; specify; tell.  Read our Commentary ‘You Say’ means)
  • اللّٰهُمَّ — La-hoom-ma — Allah our God (= O God. The Almighty God. The Lord God of all. The One and he Only One Worthy of Worship)
  • مٰلِكَ — Maa-lay-ka-(ul) — Lord of (=Absolute Ruler. Controller. Decision Maker. Final     Authority. Handler. Leash-holder;  Master. Monarch. Owner. Possessor of all power. Supreme Commander. Top Being. Ultimate Decision Maker)
  • الۡمُلۡكِ — Mool-kay — The Supreme Powers (= n., For translation of this word as The Supreme Powers when used for the Almighty Allah and The Kinghood when used for Man, see Note 002:248)
  • تُؤۡتِى — Toe-tee…(il) — You give (= Award; bestow; bless; confer; deliver; donate; grant; honor; install; place; recognize; reward)
  • الۡمُلۡكَ — Mool-ka — The Kinghood (= n., See   الۡمُلۡكِ  above for more meanings)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whom (= Anyone; who; whoever; whomever; whichever person)
  • تَشَآءُ — Ta-shaa-o — You please (= Choose; decree; desire; destine; dictate; direct; like;   prefer, select; want; will; wish)

  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • يَدِ — Ya-day — Hand (= Authority. Control. Power. The Instrument or tool to access, control and reach. Also, in relation to a human being, the end of a arm or the part below the wrist, consisting of a thumb, four fingers, and a palm and capable of holding and manipulating things)
  • كَ — Ka…(ul) — Your (= Single male addressee in 2nd person)
  • ٱلۡخَيۡرُ‌ — Khai-ro — The Goodness (= Everlasting Good. The best. That always does the best. A/t/a, ‘In  Your hands lies all the good‘)
  • إِنَّ — In-na — Indeed (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; surely; truly; verily)
  • كَ  — Ka — You (= Refers to the Almighty God; The One and the Only One Worthy of Worship)

The Holy Qor-aan has frequently stated the truth in the next four words. See Note 002:021

  • عَلَى — Alaa —  Of / on (= Above; for; of; on; over; upon)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= All things without exception; entirely; totally; wholly)
  • شَىۡءٍ — Shai-in — Thing (= Article; being; element; item; phenomenon)
  • قَدِيۡرٌ  — Qa-dee-r — In full control (= superlative form that includes the meanings of ‘fullness and totality of control.‘  Controller.  Has the absolute power to do what He wills.  Master and possessor of all powers)

فَكَيۡفَ اِذَا جَمَعۡنٰهُمۡ لِيَوۡمٍ لَّا رَيۡبَ فِيۡهِ  وَوُفِّيَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتۡ وَهُمۡ لَا يُظۡلَمُوۡنَ‏

 

Fa-kai-fa-ezaa-ja-maa-naa-hoom-lay-yao-min-laa-rai-ba-fee-hay                                          Wa-woof-fay-yut-kool-lo-nuf-sinm-maa-ka-sa-but-wa-hoom-laa-yooz-la-moo-n.

 

So how about when We assemble them for the Day in which there is no doubt. And every soul will be fully paid what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

 

  • فَ — Fa — So (= As a result; consequently; then; thereafter; therefore)
  • كَيۡفَ — Kai-fa — How about (= How would it be, do or fare. What would it look. In what fashion, manner, method or in which way)
  • اِذَاۤ — Ezaa — When (= Think of the event, occasion, opportunity or time. A/t/a Call to mind; recall; remember)
  • جَمَعۡ — Ja-ma…(u) — Assemble (= v., Bring together; gather; herd; put together)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid disbelievers
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the advent of which; for the benefit, object, purpose or reason; with intent to)
  • يَوۡمٍ — Yao-min — Day (= Day of Judgment; Resurrection. Literally, at that time; the period between sunrise and sunset)
  • لَّا — Laa — No (= Absolute denial; never; none; not at all; total negation)
  • رَيۡبَ — Rai-ba — Doubt (= Absence of faith; dubious; dubitable; grey-area open to  suspicion; uncertainty
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Inside a duration, time, place, period, thing or situation. Also, concerning; in reference, regarding relative to)
  • هِ — Hay — It / which (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘day’)

  • وُفِّيَتۡ — Woof-fay-yut — Fully paid (= Awarded, filled or given in full; completed; given; paid out; perfected)

  • مَّا — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • ڪَسَبَتۡ — Ka-sa-but — Earned (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Accomplished; accumulated; achieved; acquired; bagged; brought about; completed; deserved; due; gained; garnered, gathered; harvested; incurred; merited; performed, received, won; resolved,  secured, succeeded; won)

ذٰ لِكَ بِاَنَّهُمۡ قَالُوۡا لَنۡ تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ اِلَّاۤ اَيَّامًا مَّعۡدُوۡدٰتٍ‌ وَغَرَّهُمۡ فِىۡ دِيۡنِهِمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَفۡتَرُوۡنَ‏

 

Zaa-lay-ka-bay-un-na-hoom-qaa-loo                                                                                                 Lun-ta-mus-sa-nun-naa-ro-il-laa-auy-yaa-mum-ma-doo-daa-t                                                Wa-ghur-ra-hoom-fee-de-nay-him-ma-kaa-noo-yuf-ta-roo-n.

 

This was because they certainly had said,                                                                        “The Fire won’t touch us except for a few numbered days.”                                        And what they had been concocting misled them in their religion.

 

  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This (= Right in here; refers to a stated fact, person or statement)
  • بِ — Bay — With / because (= The Arabic word  بِ  literally means ‘with’ in English. The translation of the present context is best conveyed in English usage with the words ‘for or because’)
  • اَنَّ — Un-na — Most certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively;  really; surely; truly; verily)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — Said (= v., past., Announced; broadcast; claimed; conveyed; declared; informed; invoked; prayed; preached; professed; replied; specified; stated; told)
  • لَن — Lun — Never (= Absolute denial; no; not; not at all; total negation)
  • تَمَسّ — Ta-mus-sa –Touch (= v., Affect; brush; cause effect; come close; forced to endure)
  • نَآ — Naa…(un) — Us (= Pronounce refers to ‘us all’, both genders)
  • ٱلنَّارُ — Naa-ro — The Fire (= Allah’s anger, punishment or wrath. Hell; purgatory)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; save; unless)
  • أَيَّامً۬ا — Ay-yaa-m(um) — Days (= pl., Juncture. Period between a sunrise and sunset)
  • مَّعۡدُودَٲتٍ — Ma-doo-daat — Numbered (= Certain counted, limited or specified number)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • غَرّ — Ghur-ra — Misled (= v., past., Beguiled; deceived; deluded; ensnared; misguided; moved away on a tangent; turned aside; put on wrong track; went on a wrong direction)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Amidst; inside; concerning; during; for; regarding; in reference; relative to)
  • دِينِ — Dee-nay — Religion (= Life-style; way to live)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Those (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= Conveys continuation; all those in 3rd person used to)
  • يَفۡتَرُونَ — Yuf-ta-roo-n — They concocting (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. They padding up lies to appear true. Chasing illusions and misconceptions. This word is committing, cooking up, conspiring, counterfeiting, contriving, doctoring, fabricating, falsifying, faking,  feigning, forging, making up, misrepresenting, procuring, rigging, trumping up or trying for bad results. It is not used to create, devise, imagine, invent, manufacture, produce, pursue, seek or try for any good outcome)

اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوۡا نَصِيۡبًا مِّنَ الۡكِتٰبِ يُدۡعَوۡنَ اِلٰى كِتٰبِ اللّٰهِ لِيَحۡكُمَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلّٰى فَرِيۡقٌ مِّنۡهُمۡ وَهُمۡ مُّعۡرِضُوۡنَ‏

 

Aa  laum  ta-ra  aiy-la  ul-la-ze-na  oo-too 
Na-see-baun  may-na  ul-kay-taa-bay
Yood-auo-na  aiy-laa  kay-taa-bay  il-laa-hay
Lay  yauh-ho-ma  bai-na hoom
Thoom-ma  ya-ta-waul-laa  fa-re-qoon  min  hoom
Wa  hoom  moe-ray-dzoo-n

 

Have you not looked at those who were given
A part of the Book
Are called towards the Book of Allah
So that it judges between them. 
Then a group among them turns away
And they are averse to accept the truth.

  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — They — (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • مُّعۡرِضُونَ — Moe-ray-dzoo-n — Averse (= n., pl., Backsliders. Decliners. Those against, hostile or opposed to, paying no heed to, or turning away and back from guidance. Those withdrawing from virtuous ways and taking another or wrong direction)

 

Note 003:024. Two very distinct meanings have been translated from the one word يُدۡعَوۡنَ which describes the action of the People of Book. Most translations are that they called “them towards … the Book of Allah so that it could decide among them.” But some stated that they “invoke the Scripture of Allah (in their disputes) that it may judge between them.” The academic difference between calling “towards … the Book of Allah” or invoking “the scripture … (in their disputes) that it may judge between them” does not significantly alter the rule.  

The rule laid in this verse applies universally to all people. It will apply to the nations in future just as it applied to the past. The history quotes innumerable instances in almost every country, every creed and every culture. To save their lives the victimized Israelite ran from Pharaoh just as the modern age Syrians are running from ISIS-controlled territories.

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ حَبِطَتۡ اَعۡمَالُهُمۡ فِى الدُّنۡيَا وَالۡاٰخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمۡ مِّنۡ نّٰصِرِيۡنَ

 

Olaa-aiy-kul-la-zee-na-ha-bay-tut-au-maa-lo-hoom                                                              Fid-doon-ya-wul-aa-khay-ra-tay                                                                                                   Wa-maa-la-hoom-min-naa-say-ree-n

 

All of them are those whose acts are wasted                                                                      In this life and the Hereafter.                                                                                              And for them is none among the helpers.

 

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — Olaa-aiy-ka..(ul) — All of them (= Facts, persons or things)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= pl., male, 3rd person articles, thing or persons)
  • حَبِطَتۡ — Ha-bay-tut — Wasted (= Amount to nothing; become fruitless; brought or come to naught; destroyed; failed; fallen; lost; ruined; spoiled; turned in vain)
  • اَعۡمَال — Au-maa-lo — Acts  (= Actions; good deeds; virtuous acts; works)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to said disbelievers)
  • فِىۡ — Fee…(id) — In (= 1. Amidst, among, contained or inside a duration, event time, place, period, thing or situation. 2. Concerning; in reference, regarding; relative to)
  • الدُّنۡيَا — Doon-ya — Life here (= The near one; nearby world at hand)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ يَكۡفُرُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَيَقۡتُلُوۡنَ النَّبِيّٖنَ بِغَيۡرِ حَقٍّۙ وَّيَقۡتُلُوۡنَ الَّذِيۡنَ يَاۡمُرُوۡنَ بِالۡقِسۡطِ مِنَ النَّاسِۙ فَبَشِّرۡهُمۡ بِعَذَابٍ اَ لِيۡمٍ

 

In-nul-la-zee-na-yuk-fo-roo-na-bay-aa-yaa-til-laa-hay                                                              Wa-yuk-to-loo-nun-na-be-ye-na-bay-ghai-ray-huq-qin                                                            Wa-yuk-to-loo-nul-la-zee-na                                                                                                             Yau-mo-roo-na-bil-qis-tay-may-nun-naa-say                                                                            Fa-baush-sher-hoom-bay-azaa-bin-alee-m.

 

Most certainly those who reject signs of Allah                                                              And persecute the Prophets without justification                                                           And persecute those                                                                                                                 Who among the people enjoin equity                                                                                   Then give them the news of a painful punishment.

Denying, disbelieving, refusing or rejecting belief in Allah and Holy Qor-aan and become Moslem. Being disbelievers, heretics, infidels, unappreciative or unbelievers.   • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with.’ Sometimes the accurate English translation requires using ‘in’)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-yaa-t…(il) — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication, insinuation, pointer, portent, prof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Also; although; but; in addition to; though; yet)
  •  يَقۡتُلُوۡنَ — Yuq-to-loo-na — Persecuting (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. They condemn, fight, harm, hurt,  oppose, oppress menacingly and unjustly. Historically no prophet including Jesus Christ has been successfully executed and so the best translation is persecuting or trying to kill. Only some contexts justify a translation to commit, carnage, massacre, mayhem, murder, slaughter or even kill or slay as shown in Commentary titled as Jihad – Is It Fighting)
  • النَّبِيّٖنَ — Na-bee-ye-na — Prophets (= n., pl., GOD’s messengers who receive revelations from Him and tell them to people as a new thing or news)
  • بِغَيۡرِ — Bay-ghai-ray — Without (= Separately the word بِ means with and غَيۡرِ means out of, other or else. The combination means without)
  • حَقٍّۙ — Huq-qin — Justification (= n., Appropriateness; being right; fairness; good reason; just cause; reasonableness; suitability; truthfulness)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Also; although; but; in addition to; though; yet)
  • يَقۡتُلُوۡنَ — Yuq-to-loo-na — Persecute (= v., pl., Kill; oppress; persecute; slay. See يَقۡتُلُوۡنَ above)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= pl., male, 3rd person articles, thing or persons)
  • يَاۡمُرُوۡنَ — Yau-mo-roo-na — Enjoin (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Coach; command; direct;  enjoin; exhort; insist; mandate; order; preach; profess; recommend; spread message; teach; tutor; urge)
  • بِ — Bay…(il) — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • الۡقِسۡطِ‌ — Qis-tay  — Equity (= Balanced view; fairness; justice; just dealings; the right ways to live life)
  • مِنَ — May-na..(un) — Among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • النَّاسِ — Naa-say — The people (= Folks; human beings; mankind; nations)

The Warning about Punishment below differs in words than given in verse 002:011, etc.

  • بَشِّر — Baush-sher — Give news (= v., s., 2nd person. Announce; inform; make aware; proclaim; tell)

  • ب — Bay — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • عَذَابٍ — Azaa-bin — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom,  penalty, recompense, torment, torture or scourge)
  • اَلِيۡمٌ — Alee-m — Painful (= Grievous; painful, sever, stern; woeful)

فَاِنۡ حَآجُّوۡكَ فَقُلۡ اَسۡلَمۡتُ وَجۡهِىَ لِلّٰهِ وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِ‌ؕ   وَقُل لِّلَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡاُمِّيّٖنَ ءَاَسۡلَمۡتُمۡ‌ؕ   فَاِنۡ اَسۡلَمُوۡا فَقَدِ اهۡتَدَوْا ‌ۚ   وَاِنۡ تَوَلَّوۡا فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيۡكَ الۡبَلٰغُؕ   وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيۡرٌۢ بِالۡعِبَادِ

 

Fa-in-haaj-joo-ka-fa-qool                                                                                                                    Us-lum-to-wuj-hay-ya-lil-laa-hay                                                                                                    Wa-ma-nit-ta-ba-un                                                                                                                            Wa-qool-lil-la-ze-na-oo-tool-kay-taa-ba                                                                                       Wul-oom-me-yoo-na-aa-us-lum-toom                                                                                               Fa-in-us-la-moo-fa-qa-deh-ta-doo                                                                                                  Wa-in-ta-wul-lao-fa-in-na-maa-alai-kul-ba-laagh                                                                      Wul-laa-ho-ba-see-room-bil-ebaa-d.

 

So if they argue with you, then you say,                                                                              “I have surrendered the focus of my attention to Allah                                                 And also of those who follow me.”                                                                                      And say to those who were given the Book (Scriptures)                                               And the unschooled, “Do you surrender?”                                                                       So if they submit then surely they are rightly guided.                                                  And if they turn away, then definitely on you the duty is to deliver.                        And Allah looks after His servants.

  • قُلۡ — Qool — You say (= v., Announce; broadcast; convey; declare; demand; elaborate; explain; expound; inform; invoke; pray; preach; profess; propagate; reply; specify; state; tell)
  • اَسۡلَمۡ — Us-lum-to — Surrendered (= v., past., Become completely, entirely, totally and wholly obedient, subservient, submitted and surrendered)

  • وَجۡهِ — Wuj-hay — Focus (= Attention; countenance; face; favor; purpose of life. Turn attention, concentration, face or focus. The whole self)

  • لّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)

Decreed part of a religion. Spiritual Code codifying the rules of universal application.  2.   • الۡاُمِّيّٖنَ — Oom-me-yoo-na — Unschooled (= Ignorant; illiterate; pagans; uneducated; unlearned; unlettered. A/t/a, Who can’t ‘read’ and “Gentiles”)
  • ءَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark. Equivalent: ‘Can?, ‘Do?, ‘Will?)
  • اَسۡلَمۡ — Us-lum — Surrender (= Become obedient and subservient; submit)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= Pronoun refers to plural in second person)

  • اِنَّمَا — In-na-maa — Definitely (= Combination of two words. The first word اِنَّ (inna)  means absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily. The second word مَاۤ (maa) means all that, what; whatever. whatsoever. Thus اِنَّمَا (inna-maa) lays great emphasis on the statement that follows it as absolutely, positively and most certainly accurate’)

  • بَصِيۡرٌ — Ba-see-roon — Looks after (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most. and highlights that none sees more than Him. All-seeing. Looks after. Lookout. Mindful. Observer. Overseer. One who takes cognizance very well. Sees  very well. Top-seer. Watch. Watchful)
  • بِ — Bay…(il) — Over (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’. The translation of the present context is best conveyed in English usage with the words ‘on or over’)
  • الۡعِبَادِ‌ — Ebaa-d — Servants (= pl., Conduct of His bondsmen, obedient people, slaves,  supplicants or real believers who earnestly worship Him

اِنَّ الدِّيۡنَ عِنۡدَ اللّٰهِ الۡاِسۡلَامُ   وَمَا اخۡتَلَفَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡكِتٰبَ اِلَّا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ الۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡيًا ۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡ‌ؕ   وَمَنۡ يَّكۡفُرۡ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَرِيۡعُ الۡحِسَابِ‏

 

In-nud-de-na-in-dul-laa-hil-iss-laam                                                                                            Wa-ma-ukh-ta-la-ful-la-ze-na-oo-tool-kay-taa-ba                                                                       Il-laa-min-bau-day-maa-jaa-aa-ho-mool-il-mo                                                                       Bugh-yun-bai-na-hoom                                                                                                                  Wa-mun-yuk-foor-bay-aa-yaa-til-laa-hay                                                                               Fa-in-nul-laa-ha-sa-ree-ool-hay-saa-b.

 

Surely the true religion with (= in the sight of) Allah is the Peace.                          And those who were given the Book never disagreed                                              Until after the knowledge had come to them                                                              Out of Jealousy among each other.                                                                                 And anyone who disbelieves in the Signs of Allah                                                    Then must know that Allah is very swift in reckoning.

  • الدِّيۡنَ — De-na — Religion (= The real, right and true Faith; life-style; way to live)

  • الۡاِسۡلَامُ — Iss-laam — The peace  (= Absolute surrender to Allah’s will; complete and total submission to the will of God. Allah’s will)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Ma…(ukh) — Never (= Absolutely not; no; not at all)
  • اخۡتَلَفَ — Kh-ta-la-fa..(ul)  Disagreed (= v., past., Differed; disapproved; dissented; disputed. A/t/a, ‘at variance’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m., 3rd person. Articles, thing or persons)
  • اُوۡتُوا — Oo-too…(l) — Were given (= v., Awarded, bestowed, conferred, entrusted or granted earlier)
  • الۡكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — Book (= n., Authentic recording of things written in black and white; Divine Scripture; Holy Direction; Spiritual Code; Scripture; Testament.  Also, the Code, Command or Direction mandated, ordered, penned down, prescribed, recorded or written down)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; in case; save; unless)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= From the class, category, count or person of; out of)
  • بَعۡدِ — Bau-day — After (= Behind; subsequent)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa –Had come (= Arrived; reached)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol) –Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • الۡعِلۡمُ — Il-mo — Knowledge (= Awareness; information)
  • بَغۡيًاۡ — Bugh-yun — Jealousy (= Disavowing; envying; fighting; flouting; harboring rivalries; insolence; mutual envies; playing foul; rebelling; spiting one another; trampling upon, transgressing on or violating the rights of each other)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Among (= Among themselves; between; betwixt; both sides; inter se; mutually)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Each other (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those given the Book)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Anyone (= Who; whoever; whom; whomsoever)
  • يَّكۡفُرۡ — Yuck-foor — Disbelieves (= v., Acts ungratefully; denies, refuses or rejects belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islam to become Moslem. Heretics; infidels; unappreciative; unbelievers)
  • بِ — Bay  — With / In  (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’. Sometimes accurate usage  in English translation requires to use ‘in’)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-yaa-t…(il) — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication,  insinuation, pointer, portent, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • فَ — Fa —  Then (= As a result; consequently; hence; so; therefore; thus)

شَهِدَ اللّٰهُ اَنَّهٗ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَۙ وَالۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَاُولُوا الۡعِلۡمِ قَآٮِٕمًا ۢ بِالۡقِسۡطِ‌ؕ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡحَكِيۡمُ

 

Sha-hay-dul-laa-ho-un-na-hoo-laa-elaa-ha-il-laa-hoo                                                             Wul-ma-laa-aiy-ka-to-wa-o-lool-il-may-qaa-aiy-mun-bil-qis-tay                                          Laa-elaa-ha-il-laa-ho-wul-azee-zool-ha-ka-kee-m

 

Allah has testified that there is no God except Him                                                    And also the angels and the possessors of knowledge acting equitably              Indeed there is no God except Allah, the Mightiest, the Wisest.

 

  • شَهِدَ — Sha-hay-da…(ul) — Has testified (= v., Has witnessed; stated on oath; vouched; vouchsafed)
  • اللّٰهُ — Alla-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • اَنَّ — Un-na — Most certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively;  really; surely; truly; verily)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • لَا — Laa — No   *    (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • اِلٰهَ — Elaa-ha God *    (= Worthy of worship)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except  *     (= Apart from; excluding; save)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa — Him       *     (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • وَ  — Wa .. (ul) — And  (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ — Ma-laa-aiy-ka-to — Angels (= The immortal beings attendant upon God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اُولُوا — O-lool…(ol) — Possessors (= Endowed with; endued with; masters; owners; those who have)
  • الۡعِلۡمِ — Il-may — Knowledge (= Absolutely true information. The term اُولُوا الۡعِلۡمِ is generally used for the Learned, Men of Learning, The Knowledgeable and the religious scholars. Also used for the saints and sages)
  • قَآٮِٕمًا — Qaa-aiy-mun — Acting (= Affirming; enforcing; establishing; maintaining; observing, standing firm; upholding. Also behaving  and conducting all affairs appropriately, equitably, fairly, honestly, justly and properly.  A/t/a, ‘(He always)  maintains His creation in Justice’ and the ‘Executor of Justice’)
  • بِ — Bay…(il) — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is with.  In instant case the appropriate translation can also be ‘in the manner or way’)
  • الۡقِسۡطِ‌ — Qis-tay — Equity  (= Balanced view with fairness, justice and propriety.  Also, behaving and conducting affairs appropriately, equitably, fairly, honestly, justly and properly)
  • لَا — Laa — No   *    (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • اِلٰهَ — Elaa-ha God *    (= Worthy of worship)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except  *     (= Apart from; excluding; save)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa…(ul) — Him   *        (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • الۡعَزِيۡزُ — Azee-zoo…(l) — The Mightiest  (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most and highlights that none more than Him is revered. The Highest.  All-Mighty.  Most elevated, honored and respected. Exalted in might and the power.  This one word includes the concepts of Might with Respect)
  • الۡحَكِيۡمُ — Hakeem — The Wisest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most and highlights that none more than Him is Exalted in wisdom. All-Wise. Best Possessor and full of wisdom. Extremely shrewd)

اَلصّٰــبِرِيۡنَ وَالصّٰدِقِــيۡنَ وَالۡقٰنِتِــيۡنَ وَالۡمُنۡفِقِيۡنَ وَالۡمُسۡتَغۡفِرِيۡنَ بِالۡاَسۡحَارِ‏

 

Us-saa-bay-ree-na-wus-saa-day-qee-na-wul-qua-nay-tee-na                                                Wul-moon-fay-qee-na-wul-moos-tugh-fay-ree-na-bil-us-haar

 

The steadfast. the truthful, the obedient,                                                                          The charitable and the seekers of forgiveness with the dawns.

 

  • اَلصّٰــبِرِيۡنَ  — Us-saa-bay-ree-na — The steadfast (= n., Those who are patient, perseverant and/or persistent. Who show firmness, fortitude, patience and self-control)
  • وَ — Wa .. (us) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الصّٰدِقِــيۡنَ — Saa-day-qee-na — The Truthful (= n., Those who ate faithful, honest with integrity, sincere and true in word and deed)
  • وَ — Wa .. (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases. See وَ  above)
  • الۡقٰنِتِــيۡنَ — Qua-nay-tee-na — The Obedient (= n., Those who are devout, humble, loyal and sincere worshipers of the Almighty Allah)
  • وَ — Wa .. (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases. See وَ  above)
  • الۡمُنۡفِقِيۡنَ — Moon-fay-qee-na — The charitable (= n., Those who are investors in good causes, spenders in the causes and ways of Allah, and do not hoard valuables. Hoarding valuables is frowned upon because it pulls valuable from the circulation and forestalls economic growth for the betterment of community)
  • وَ — Wa .. (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases. See وَ  above)
  • الۡمُسۡتَغۡفِرِيۡنَ — Moos-tugh-fay-ree-na — Forgiveness-seekers (= n., Those who beg, beseech, implore and pray for divine protection, forgiveness, pardon and being excused)
  • بِ — Bay…(il) — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is with the word with)
  • الۡاَسۡحَارِ — Us-haar  — The dawns (= pl., Early hours of the morning; later parts of the nights; morning times; predawn hours; periods before day-breaks or sunrise; last or small hours of the night; the last of a night)
