The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     007:102

 

تِلۡكَ الۡقُرٰى نَقُصُّ عَلَيۡكَ مِنۡ اَنۡۢبَآٮِٕهَا‌ ۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ‌ ۚ فَمَا كَانُوۡا لِيُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِمَا كَذَّبُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ‌ ؕ كَذٰلِكَ يَطۡبَعُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ‏

 

Til-ka  ul-qo-raa  na-qoos-so  aa-lai  ka  min  aun-baa-aiy  haa
Wa  la  qaud  jaa-aut  hoom  ro-so-lo  hoom  bay  il-buy-ya-naa-tay
Fa  maa  kaa-noo  lay  yoe-may-noo  bay-maa  kauz-za-boo  min  qaub-lo
Ka-zaa-lay-ka  yaut-ba-o  ol-laa-ho  aa-laa  qo-loo-bay  il-kaa-fay-ree-n

 

These are the towns We have told you of their happenings.
Their messenger had certainly come to them with clear signs
But they surely could not believe what they had belied before.
This is how Allah put a seal on the hearts of the disbelievers.

        

  • تِلۡكَ — Til-ka — These are (= All the mentioned, stated or told. Those ‘shown, specified or stated right here. A/t/a, ‘Such were’ and ‘those were’)
  • الۡقُرٰى — Qo-raa — The towns (= n., pl of a city, colony, hamlet, habitat, population,   center town, township or anywhere man lives, prospers or resides. A/t/a, ’the towns,’ ‘the township,’ ‘the (people) of townships,’ ‘these towns’ and ‘those people’ )
  • نَقُصُّ — Na-qoos-so — We told (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Described; narrated; related; stated. A/t/a, ‘We have recited,’ ‘We have related’ and ‘We have recounted.’ But the present tense as in ‘We (thus) relate’ and ‘We relate’ is no translation of the past tense in the Holy Qor-aan text)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; upon. A/t/a, ‘unto’ and ‘to’)
  • كَ  — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You, a single male. Yours. The Initial addressee was the Holy Prophet s.a.w. A/t/a, ‘thee,’ ‘thee (Muhammad)’ and ‘you (O  Muhammad, s.a.w’)
  • مِنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘some of’ and ‘some’)
  • اَنۡۢـبَآءِ — Aun-baa-aiy — Happenings (= n., pl., Account; chronicle; events; info; narration; news; spiritual; stories; tidings. A/t/a, ‘story,’ ‘stories,’ ‘news,’ ‘annals,’ ‘tidings’ and ’the history’)
  • هَا — Haa — Their (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid towns. A/t/a, ‘of them’ and ‘whose’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; but; moreover; though; when; whereupon; while; yet)
  • لَـقَدۡ — La-qaud — Certainly (= Two words  لَ  (la) and قَدۡ  (qaud) both mean absolutely,      certainly, definitely, indeed; obviously, positively, surely; truly, verily. See Commentary ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect‘. A/t/a, ‘Certainly,’ ‘verily’ and ‘indeed’)
  • جَآءَتۡ — Jaa-aut — Had come (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Arrived; came; had come;   reached; returned. In a different context the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled; succeeded. A/t/a, ‘there came,’ ‘came,’ ‘did come,’ ‘came unto’               and ‘came to’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom –Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • رُسُلُ — Ro-so-lo — Messengers (= pl., Apostles; God’s messengers; prophets; sages; saints)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِ  — Bay … (il) — With (= Literally the word means with)
  • الۡبَيِّنٰتِ‌ ۚ– Buy-yay-naa-tin — Clear Signs (= pl., Clear, convincing, irrefutable, manifest, veritable and sure arguments, corroborations, evidences, proofs, portents, signs and testimonies of Truth and Allah.   • فَ — Fa — But (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘but’ and ‘yet’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never. A/t/a, ‘not’ and ‘not such’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person. Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘would,’ ‘could,’ ‘they were’  and ‘they persisted’)
  • لِ — Lay — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; certainly; clearly; definitely;    earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; verily)
  • يُّؤۡمِنُوۡا — Yoe-may-noo — They believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. The combination of the prior word  لَمۡ  followed by this word  يُؤۡمِنُوۡا  is also translated in the past tense as explained in Note 007:088. A/t/a, ‘in their unbelief’ and ‘to believe’)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — With what (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ       means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ See 002:092. A/t/a, ‘what,’ ‘that which’  and ‘because’)
  • كَذَّ بُوۡا –Kauz-za-boo — They belied (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Belied; contradicted; denied; derided, denounced, disowned, disproved; falsified; opposed, misrepresented, negated; rejected; treated as liars. A/t/a, ‘had rejected,’ ‘had …denied,’ ‘had disbelieved,’ ‘had cried lies (to them)’ and ‘had once denied’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See مِنۡ  above)
  • قَبۡلُ — Qaub-lo — Before (= adv., Aforetime. Ahead. Beforehand. Earlier, former,  older, past or prior What happened or occurred in an earlier time or prior period, antecedently, historically and previously. A/t/a, ‘before,’ ‘initially’ and ‘in the beginning’)
  • كَذٰلِكِ — Ka-zaa-lay-ka — Like this (= Combines two words. كَ means example, like, identical resembling, similar.  ذٰلِكَ means ‘this right in here’ and refers to an aforesaid event, fact, person or statement.  The combination means ‘like this,’ ‘so it will be,’ ‘such   is the way,’ ‘the same way,’ ‘that is how’ or ‘this way’.   • يَطۡبَعُ — Yaut-ba-o — He puts seal (= v.., pres., pl., 3rd person. Close, condemn; cover; doom. A/t/a, ‘doth … seal,’ ‘does … seal,’ ‘does …. seal up,’ ‘doth … print,’ ‘seals’ and ‘seals up’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho –Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • عَلٰى — Aa-laa — On (= Over; upon. See  عَلَيۡ  above. A/t/a, ‘up’ and ‘upon’)
  • قُلُوۡبِ — Qo-loo-bay … (il) — Hearts (= n., pl., Refers to the ability to think, choose, decide and act in an appropriate manner physically and spiritually. Mind. Inner soul. Understanding. Physically the central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls the body parts and directs all their functions.   • الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-ree-n — The ungrateful (= n., pl. Those who denied, disbelieved, disclaimed; failed to acknowledge, lacked Faith, rejected Iss-laam and God Almighty or were thankless and ungrateful. See our Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. اَوَلَمۡ يَهۡدِ لِلَّذِيۡنَ يَرِثُوۡنَ الۡاَرۡضَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ اَهۡلِهَاۤ اَنۡ لَّوۡ نَشَآءُ اَصَبۡنٰهُمۡ بِذُنُوۡبِهِمۡ‌ ۚ وَنَطۡبَعُ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يَسۡمَعُوۡنَ‏

 

Aa  wa  laum  yah-day  lay  il-ze-na  ya-ray-thoo-na
Aul-aur-dza  min  bau day  ah-lay  haa
Aun  lao  na-shaa-o  aa-saub-naa  hoom  bay  dzo-noo-bay  him
Wa  naut-ba-o  aa-laa  qo-loo-bay  him  fa  hoom  laa  yaus-ma-oon 

 

And does it not guide those who inherit
The earth after its owners perished
That if We chose We could have struck them for their sins
And We seal their hearts so they never hear.

Also, voids evil to enable man to reach his noble aims, goals and objects. A/t/a, ‘afford guidance,’ ‘serve as guidance,’  ‘instruct,’ ‘lead … to realize’ and ‘clear.’ But the nouns in ‘a guiding lesson,’ ‘a lesson,’  ‘an indication’ and ‘plain’ have not translated the Holy Qor-aan text with a verb)
  • لِّ —  Lay — For (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘to’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons or phenomenon or things in masculine gender)
  • يَرِثُوۡنَ — Ya-ray-thoo-na … (ul) — They Inherit (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Become the masters or owners. Command. Inherit. Rule. Succeed. A/t/a,  ‘inherit.’ But the past tense in ‘have inherited’ or noun as in ‘the present generation’ is no translation of the Holy Qor-aan text in the present tense)
  • الۡاَرۡضَ — Aul-ur-dza — The Earth (= n., Area; country; earth; ground; land; soil; territory. Also life on earth, nation; people or society in general. See Note 002:028a. A/t/a, ‘the earth’ and ‘the land’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • بَعۡدِ — Bau-day — After (= Afterwards; subsequent to; succeeding. A/t/a, ‘after’ and ‘in succession’)
  • اَهۡلِ — Ah-lay — Owners (= n., Here the word relates to earth or land, so it mean as follows: Dwellers. Inhabitants. Masters. Natives.  Occupants. Owners. People. Populaces. Population.  Residents. See Note 002:197. A/t/a, ‘(former) residents,’ ‘former inhabitants,’ ‘former people,’ ‘(previous) occupants,’ ‘people (who thus reaped the consequence of evil-doing),’ ‘its (previous) possessors’ and ‘those who inhabited’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to the earth or land. A/t/a, ‘it’ and ‘its’)

The meanings ‘desired, wanted or wished’ do not apply  relative to the Almighty God Who has all control, power and will to implement instantly what He intends. A/t/a, ‘We please’ and ‘We will.  But the past tense in ‘We so willed,’ ‘We     willed’ and ’We pleased’ is no translation of the Holy Qor-aan text with the verb)
  • اَصَبۡنٰ — Aa-saub-naa — We struck (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Affected; overtook; punished; reached;  smut; struck. The past tense verb for single 3rd person is converted into that of plural 1st person as explained in Note 001:007. A/t/a, ‘We could punish,’  ‘We would afflict,’ ‘We could’ and ‘We would have punished.’ But ‘We can smite’ and ‘We can afflict … (with some punishment) in the present tense is no translation of the past tense in the Holy Qor-aan text)

اَفَاَمِنُوۡا مَكۡرَ اللّٰهِ‌ ۚ فَلَا يَاۡمَنُ مَكۡرَ اللّٰهِ اِلَّا الۡقَوۡمُ الۡخٰسِرُوۡنَ

 

Aa  fa  aa-may-noo  mauck-ra  ul-laa-hay
Fa  laa  yau-ma-no  mauck-ra  ul-laa-hay
Il-la  ul-qao-mo  ol-khaa-say-roo-n

 

Have you got peace from Allah’s plan?
No one wrongly feels peaceful from Allah’s plan
Except people who are losers.

قُلۡ مَا يَعۡبَـؤُا بِكُمۡ رَبِّىۡ لَوۡلَا دُعَآؤُكُمۡ‌ۚ فَقَدۡ كَذَّبۡتُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ يَكُوۡنُ لِزَامًا

 

Qool  maa  yau-ba-o  bay  koom  raub-bee lao  laa  do-aa-o  koom
Fa  qaud  kauz-zaub  toom  fa  sao-fa  ya-koo-no  lay-zaa-maa

 

 Say, “What does My Lord care for you if there are none of your prayers .
You surely had belied. So soon the result will stick lastingly.”

خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَا‌ ؕ حَسُنَتۡ مُسۡتَقَرًّا وَّمُقَامًا‏

 

Khaa-lay-de-na  fee  haa  ha-so-naut  moos-ta-quar-raun  wa  mo-qaa-maa

 

Dwellers in it, beautified as a place to rest and as a place to live.

 

  • خٰلِدِيۡنَ — Khaa-lay-deen — Dwellers (= n., pl., Abiders. Dwellers. Residents. Those who live as do-gooders forever or wrong doers for long periods. A/t/a, ‘Dwelling,’  ‘Dwelling … forever,’ ‘Abiding,’ ‘Abiding for ever,’ ‘They will abide … (for ever)’  and ‘they shall abide for ever’)

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ يُجۡزَوۡنَ الۡغُرۡفَةَ بِمَا صَبَرُوۡا وَيُلَقَّوۡنَ فِيۡهَا تَحِيَّةً وَّسَلٰمًا  ۙ ‏

 

O-laa-aiy-ka  yooj-zao-na  ul-ghoor-fa-ta
Bay-maa  sa-ba-roo   wa  yo-lauq-qao-na
Fee  haa  ta-he-ya-taun  wa  sa-laa-maa

 

They all shall be rewarded with the loftiest prestigious place
Because they persevered and will be greeted
In it with ecstatic greeting and wishing peace.

وَالَّذِيۡنَ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَـنَا مِنۡ اَزۡوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ اَعۡيُنٍ وَّاجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ اِمَامًا

 

Wa  ul-la-ze-na  ya-qoo-loo-na  raub-ba  naa
 Haub  la   naa  min  auz-waa-jay  naa
Wa  zoor-re-aa-tay  naa  qoor-a-ta  au-yo-nin
 Wa  uj-aul-naa  lay  il-moot-ta-qee-na  aiy-maa-maa

 

And those who say, “Lord of us all!
Grant us from our spouses and
Our children an ecstasy in seeing
And make us leaders for the pious.”

So have the town dwellers become secure against
That Our punishment strikes them
In the forenoon and they are playing?

وَلَوۡ اَنَّ اَهۡلَ الۡقُرٰٓى اٰمَنُوۡا وَاتَّقَوۡا لَـفَتَحۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ بَرَكٰتٍ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَلٰـكِنۡ كَذَّبُوۡا فَاَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بِمَا كَانُوۡا يَكۡسِبُوۡنَ

 

Wa  lao  aun-na  ah-la  ul-qo-raa  aa-ma-noo  wa  ut-ta-qoo
La  fa-tauh-naa  aa-lai  him  ba-ra-kaa-tin
May-na  us-sa-maa-aiy  wa  ul-aurdz-dzay
Wa  laa-kin  kauz-za-boo  fa  aa-khauz-naa  hoom
Bay-maa  kaa-noo  yauk-say-boo-n

 

And if residents of the towns had believed and were pious,
We certainly would have opened on them blessings
From the sky above and the earth below.
But they belied the truth. So we caught them in punishment
Because of what they had been earning.
