The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:016

فَاَمَّا الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكۡرَمَهٗ وَنَعَّمَهٗ ۙ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَكۡرَمَنِ ؕ‏

                Fa-um-mul-in-saa-no-ezaa-mub-ta-laa-ho-rub-bo-hoo-fa-uk-ra-ma-hoo-wa-nau-aa-ma-hoo–fa-ya-qoo-lo-rub-bee-uk-ra-mun.

              So as regards the man — when his God has tried him, then honored him and blessed him — then he would say, “My God has honored me.”

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • اَمَّا — Um-m…(ul) — As regards (= Combination of two words. The first word اَن means ‘that.’ The second word مَا means ‘all that or whatever.’ Joined together they mean ‘whatever’ or ‘as far as’, ‘as regards.’ “It is the characteristic.” – M Zafrullah Khan
  • الۡاِنۡسَانُ — In-saa-no — The man (= The human being; mankind; the species known as man including his feminine gender woman)
  • اِذَاۤ — Ezaa — When (= Any time or event; now that; whenever)
  • مَاۤ — M…(ub) — When (= 1. Any time; at such time; whenever. 2. What; whoso)
  • ابۡتَلٰٓى — Ub-ta-laa — Tried (= Put to proof; put to test; tested; disciplined with riches and prosperity)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid man)
  • رَبُّ — Rub-bo — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident.  The Only One Who provides all that sustains life.  Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid Man)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • اَكۡرَمَ — Uk-ra-ma — Honored (= Exalted; recognized respectfully)

  • نَعَّمَ — Nau-aa-ma — Blessed (= v., Bestowed blessings; conferred comforts; delivered delights; gave, graced, granted, indulged with bounties, favors, good things, joys, prosperity and worldly goods)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid Man)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • يَقُوۡلُ — Ya-quo-lo — He boasts (= v., pr., pl., m., 3rd person. Announces; calls; broadcasts; conveys; declares; explains; elaborates; expounds; tells; informs; preaches; professes; specifies; states; utters. Is puffed up to claim)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-b..(ee) — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • ى — Ee — My (= s., m & f., 1st person)
  • اَكۡرَمَ — Uk-ra-m..(un) — Honored (= Exalted; recognized respectfully. ‘My God has been bountiful to me)
  • نۡ — Un — Me (= s., m & f., 1st person)

وَاَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهٗ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَهَانَنِ ۚ‏

                Wa-um-maa-ezaa-mub-ta-laa-ho-fa-qa-da-ra-alai-hay-riz-qa-hoo-fa-ya-qoo-lo-rub-bee-ahaa-nun.

               And as regards when He has tried him, then reduced his subsistence, then he would lament, “My God has dishonored me.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                          089:018                                         كَلَّا‌ بَلۡ لَّا تُكۡرِمُوۡنَ الۡيَتِيۡمَ‏

                Kul-laa-bul-laa-took-ray-moo-nul-ya-tee-ma

               The fact, however, is that you do not honor the orphan

  • كَلَّا — Kul-laa — The fact is (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005)
  • بَل — Bul — However (=Aye; but; instead; in truth; nay; of course; nevertheless;
    on the contrary; rather; real reason is that; truthfully; verily; yea; yes indeed)
  • لَّا — Laa — Do not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • تُكۡرِمُوۡنَ — Took-ray-moo-na — You Honor (= Respect; recognize respectfully; ‘show kindness’)
  • الۡيَتِيۡمَ — Ul-ya-tee-ma — Orphan (= Child without one or both parents; helpless; destitute)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:019                               وَلَا تَحٰٓضُّوۡنَ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الۡمِسۡكِيۡنِ

                 Wa-laa-to-haa-dzoo-na-alaa-ta-aa-mil-mis-kee-nay

                And you do not exhort each other on feeding the needy

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)

  • عَلٰى — Alaa — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on top of; over; to; upon. Incurs, obligates, subjects himself to, or take on)
  • طَعَامٍ — Ta-aa-mi…(il) — Feeding (= Giving or providing food, eatables, consumables or other stuff necessary for subsistence)
  • ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ — Mis-kee-nay — The needy (= n., s., Destitute; homeless; hungry with no food to eat; abjectly poor; have-nots)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:020                                       وَتَاۡكُلُوۡنَ التُّرَاثَ اَكۡلًا لَّـمًّاۙ ۙ‏

                  Wa-tau-ko-loo-nut-to-raa-tha-uk-lun-lum-maa

                 And orphans’ inheritance you devour greedily

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَاۡكُلُوۡنَ — Tau-ko-loo-na..(ut) — Devour (= Consume; eat; feast upon; squander)
  • التُّرَاثَ — To-raa-tha — Inheritance (= Other peoples’ belongings they received in inheritance; others’ heritage or property; inherited wealth)
  • اَكۡلًا — Uk-lun….(l) — Devouring (= Eating. Feeding. Wasting. Consuming or eating up as if it were yours own to eat, feast upon and feed your cronies)
  • لَّـمًّا — Lum-maa — Greedily (= Overflowing and dripping with wholesome greed. Extravagantly. Indiscriminately and disgracefully)

* Note 089:020. You greedily lay hands on the inheritance of others and those weaker than you and treat that as if it were your own consuming, devouring and extravagantly wasting those assets on entertaining and partying with those people whose friendship you seek.

Th Holy Qor-aan                                           089:021                                           وَّتُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا 

                 Wa-to-hib-boo-nul-maa-la-hoob-bun-jum-maa

                And you love wealth with lusty loving

  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تُحِبُّوۡنَ — To-hib-boo-na..(ul) — Love (= v., Adore; cherish; crave for the attention of; fun of)
  • الۡمَالَ — Ul-maa-la — Wealth (= Affluence; assets, gains, money, property; riches; richness)
  • حُبًّا — Hoob-bun — Loving (= n., Adoring; cherishing; craving with all and very strong love) *
  • جَمًّا — Jum-maa — Lusty love (= adj/adv., Abounding; a lot; ardently; exceedingly; increasingly; inordinately; insatiably; in multiplying numbers; with inordinate passion) *

* Note 089:021. This phrase consisting of two words coming together merits translation as adoring ardently, craving insatiably, cherishing passionately and loving lustily.

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:022                                   كَلَّاۤ اِذَا دُكَّتِ الۡاَرۡضُ دَكًّا دَكًّاۙ ۙ

                Kul-laa-ezaa-dook-ka-til-ur-dzo-duk-kun-duk-kaa

               The fact is that when the earth would be crushed to powder with a pounding

  • كَلَّا — Kul-laa — The fact is (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005)
  • اِذَاۤ — Ezaa — When (= Any time or event; now that; whenever)
  • دُكَّتِ — Dook-ka-te..(il) — Is crushed (= v., Broken up into pieces; ground; pounded to powder; shattered)
  • الۡاَرۡضُ — Ur-dzo — The earth (=1. Area; country; earth; ground; land; soil; territory. 2. Life on earth, nation; people or society in general)
  • دَكًّا — Duk-kun — Pounding (= n., Something a) broken into tiny pieces, b) crushed down to every atom, c) grounded and pounded to fine dust, d) reduced to nothing or e) leveled like sand is)
  • دَكًّا — Duk-kaa — To powder (= 1. Completely; entirely; fully; really; thoroughly; totally; wholly. 2. Also for this verse: crushed into tiny pieces like every atom; leveled to be like the sand; pounded down to fine dust; reduced to nothing)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:023                           وَّجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَالۡمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ۚ‏

                Wa-jaa-aa-rub-bo-ka-wul-ma-la-ko-suf-fun-suf-faa

               And your God would come with the judgment and the angels in row after row to execute it

  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-a — Would come (= v., past., Achieved; arrived; reached; become manifest in the fulfillment of the divine prophecies)

  • كَ — Ka — ,You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡمَلَكُ — Ma-la-ko — Angels (= pl., The immortal beings attendant upon God; a kind, loving and lovable person)
  • صَفًّا — ,Suf-fun — Row after row [= In line after line, row after row, rank after rank, rank
  • صَفًّا — Suf-faa — Row after row [and file, in terrifically large numbers; ranged in order)

The Holy Qor-aan                                 089:024    وَجِاىْٓءَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍۢ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۙ‌ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ يَّتَذَكَّرُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ وَاَنّٰى لَـهُ الذِّكۡرٰى

                 Wa-jae-aa-yao-ma-e-zin-bay-ja-hun-na-ma–yao-ma-e-zin-ya-ta-zuk-ka-rool-in-saa-no–wa-un-naa-la-hooz-zik-raa

                And that day the Hell would be brought near. That day man will remember but for him the remembrance would be of what use is? 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • جِاىْٓءَ — Jae-aa — Brought near (= v., p., Would … arrive, reach or become manifest in the fulfillment of the divine prophecies. Also, the ‘comes’ is generally used to describe the stated fact or principle as a Rule of Universal Application to man’s life)
  • يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ — Yao-ma-e-zin –That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement)
  • بِ — B…(il) — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
  • جَهَنَّمَ — ,Ja-hun-nama — Hell (= Blazing Fire. Purgatory; Gehenna; hell-fire. Also, the hellish life in this world)
  • يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ — Yao-ma-e-zin — That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement)
  • يَّتَذَكَّرُ — Yata-zukka-ro — Remember (= v., Ponder over; recall the admonition administered to him for the deeds he did; reflect; refresh memory; think of, or about, or take advantage of the admonition)
  • الۡاِنۡسَانُ — In-saa-no — Man (= The human being; mankind; the species known as man including his feminine gender woman)
  • وَ — Wa — But (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; and; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنّٰى — Un-naa — Surely * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of)
  • هُ — Ho…(oz) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid man)
  • الذِّكۡرٰى — Zik-raa–Remembrance (= n., The pondering, reflecting, refreshing the memory or thinking about)

* Note 089:024. The phraseology is used to convey the regret or remorse that a person would feel. Like, of what avail to him would be his memory at that time. OR, of what use to him would be the remembrance that day. There are many other ways as well to describe that phenomenon.

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:025                                   يَقُوۡلُ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَـيَاتِىۚ

                Ya-quoo-lo-yaa-lai-ta-nee-qud-dum-to-lay-ha-yaa-tee

                He would say, “O! I wish I had forwarded something for my life”

  • يَقُوۡلُ — Ya-quoo-lo — He would say (= v., pr, pl, m, 3rd person. Announce; call; claim; convey; declare; explain; elaborate; expound; inform; lament; moan; preach; profess; specify; state; tell; utter)
  • يٰۤ — Yaa — O! (= Be attentive; pay attention)
  • لَيۡتَ — Lai-ta — Alas (= Wish; would)
  • نِىۡ — Nee — My (= s.. m & f. 1st person. I / me / my)
  • قَدَّ مۡتُ — Qud-dum-to — I had sent (= Done for myself; forwarded, sent on or sent before or or sent ahead; laid up; stored ahead; wrought by acts, deeds and sins committed; had been charitable in my former life for my present life)
  • لَ — Lay — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of)
  • حَـيَا تِ — Ha-yaa-t(ee) — Life (= The quality shown by functions among others of growth and response to stimulation and reproduction by which living organisms are distinguished from dead organisms and inanimate matter)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          089:026                                    فَيَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ ۙ

                Fa-yao-ma-e-zin-laa-yo-uz-zay-bo-azaa-ba-hoo-aa-hud

                So that day no one will punish like His punishment

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ — Yao-ma-e-zin —  That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement)

  • عَذَابَ — Azaa-ba — Punishment (= n., Appropriate, due and fair agony, scourge, torment, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, torture)
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He, the man whom the Almighty God would punish like none other)

Note 089:026. More than one translation of this verse have been put out including the following.
1. “So on that day none can punish like unto His punishment.” Maulvi Sher Ali, Malik Ghulam Farid and M Zafrulla Khan.
2. “So on that day none but He will execute His punishment.” Allamah Nooruddin and AR Omar and A M Omar
3. “On that day none will punish as He will punish.” N J Dawood, Dr Hilali and Dr Khan

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:027                                            وَّلَا يُوۡثِقُ وَثَاقَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ ؕ

                 Wa-laa-yoo-thay-quo-wa-thaa-qua-hoo-aa-hud

                And no one will bind like His binding

  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَا– Laa — No (= Absolute denial; never; no; not at all; total negation)
  • يُوۡثِقُ — Yoo-thay-quo — Will bind * (= v., active voice. Will administer appropriate, due and fair binding down in chains, constricting or confining

               Yaa-ayya-to-hun-nuf-sool-moot-ma-in-nah

              Listen! You the contended soul

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيَّتُهَا — Ayya-to-h(un) — You (= s., f., You the single addressee)
  • النَّفۡسُ — Nuf-so…(ol) — Soul (= Inner-most mind of a person)
  • الۡمُطۡمَٮِٕنَّةُ — Moot-ma-in-nah — Contented (= At peace. Person blessed with contentment. Righteous. Satisfied. Serene. Soul at rest)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         089:029                            ارۡجِعِىۡۤ اِلٰى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرۡضِيَّةً‌ ۚ

                 Ir-jay-ee-elaa-rub-bay-kay-raa-dze-ya-tin-mur-dze-yah

                Return to your God, very pleasingly and well-pleased

  • ارۡجِعِىۡۤ — Ir-jay-ee — Return (= Come back; revert)
  • اِلٰٓى — E-laa — To  (= In the direction of; towards)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident.  The Only One Who provides all that sustains life.  Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كِ — Kay — Your (= pro., s., f., You / Your. Refers to the Contended Soul)
  • رَاضِيَةً — Raa-dze-ya-tin — Who pleases (= Pleasing the Almighty God highly making Him very satisfied as the Creator)
  • مَّرۡضِيَّةً‌ — Mur-dze-yah — Who is pleased (= Content, happy, full of joy, satisfied; well-pleased)

* Note 089:029. Both words رَاضِيَةً ً‌ and مَّرۡضِيَّة end with the letter ةً (taa-e-taa-neeth) and reflect the actions by a feminine gender. The Holy Qor-aan refers to the Almighty God with a pronoun used for a single person in masculine gender. Thus these words show that the ‘human soul’ would have ‘pleased its Maker’ and ‘would feel well-pleased in itself.’

                Fud-kho-lee-fee-ibaa-dee

               So enter in the fold of My devotees

  • ادۡخُلِىۡ — Ud-kho-lee — Enter (= You are admitted, allowed, authorized and permitted to enter and join)

  • عِبٰد — Ebaa-d(ee) — Devotees (= Chosen, selected or preferred bondsmen. Servants. Slaves. Worshipers)
  • ى — Ee — My (= s., m & f., 1st person. Here the ref is to God Almighty

                Wud-kho-lee-jun-na-tee

                And enter My Paradise

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       090:001 to 012

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. Chapter # 90                                           Soora-tool-Balad                                          سُوۡرَةَ ٱلۡبَلَدِ

 بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِہَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ○ وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِہَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ○ وَوَالِدٍ۬ وَمَا وَلَدَ ○ لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ ○ أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٌ۬ ○ يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالاً۬ لُّبَدًا ○ أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُ ۥۤ أَحَدٌ ○ أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُ ۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ ○ وَلِسَانً۬ا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ ○ وَهَدَيۡنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ ○ فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ ○ وَمَآ أَدۡرَٮٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ ○ فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ○ أَوۡ إِطۡعَـٰمٌ۬ فِى يَوۡمٍ۬ ذِى مَسۡغَبَةٍ۬ ○ يَتِيمً۬ا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ ○ أَوۡ مِسۡكِينً۬ا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٍ۬ ○ ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ ○ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ○ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ○ عَلَيۡہِمۡ نَارٌ۬ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ

1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.
2. Certainly I swear by this City
3. And you will (= are going to) land in this City.
4. By the father and whom he fathered
5. Most certainly We created man in hardship.
6. Does he think that no one has control over him?
7. He boastfully says, “I squandered wealth in plenty”
8. Does he think that not one can see him?
9. Did We not give him two eyes to see?
10. And one tongue and two lips to speak?
11. And guide him to the two roads to chose the one that was right?
12. But he did not even attempt the Ascent.
13. And who will tell you what the Ascent is?
14. It’s releasing a neck (= freeing a slave)
15. Or feeding in a day of great hunger
16. An orphan of near kin
17. Or an indigent down in dust
18. Thus he was of those who believed, urged the perseverance and urged the kindness
19. These are the people on the right.
20. And those who rejected Our signs are the people on the left
21. Vaulting over them will be Fire

The Holy Qor-aan                                        090:001                                      ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                        090:002                                           ○  لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِہَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ

                La-aa-ooq-say-mo-bay-haa-zul-ba-lud

               Certainly I swear by this City

  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; really; surely; verily)
  • آ — Aa — I (= s., 1st person)
  • أُقۡسِمُ — Ooq-say-mo — Swear (= Take oath; cite as a witness and affirm)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means with)
  • هَـٰذَا — Haa-za…(ul) — This (= The article, thing or person present before the talker)
  • ٱلۡبَلَدِ — Ba-lud — City (= The ٱلۡ before بَلَدِ particularizes it to Mecca. Generally any area, hamlet, country, region, town or territory)

 * Note 090:002. The first one-lettered word لَ (La) means “Absolutely, certainly, definitely, doubtlessly, earnestly, for sure, indeed, in all earnestness, in all seriousness, really, surely or verily. The second one-lettered word آ (Aa) refers to “One single male or female in 1st person.” Jointly the two-worded phrase means as stated above. Some translators misread the 2-worded لَآ as a one single 2-lettered word  لَا  and so got led to translate it as “need not.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                         090:003                                          ○ وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِہَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ

                 Wa-un-ta-hil-loon-bay-haa-zul-ba-lud

                And you will (= are going to) land in this City.

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنۡتَ — Un-ta — You (= s., m., 2nd person. You single man. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • حِلُّۢ — Hil-loon — Will land * (= Are, destined to be or will become the citizen, dweller, indweller, inhabitant, inmate or resident. Also, one who is a freeman and free from the obligations attached to the strangers in a town in accordance with the law and custom in the medieval ages)
  • بِ — Bay — In / With (= This word in Arabic literally means with, but here ‘in’ is more appropriate for English usage)
  • هَـٰذَا — Haa-za…(ul) — This (= The article, thing or person present before the talker)
  • ٱلۡبَلَدِ — Ba-lud — City (= Refers to Mecca. Area, hamlet, country, region, town or territory)

* Note 090: 003. M Zafrulla Khan translated the word حِلُّ (Hil-loon) as “… you will alight in this city.” Allamah Nooruddin / A R Omar added to the above translation the words “as a Conqueror.” As such it was construed to be a forecast that the Holy Prophet s.a.w. who had been driven out of the city of Muk-kah under threats to life would one day return and land up as its conqueror.

The Holy Qor-aan                                        090:004                                                ○  وَوَالِدٍ۬ وَمَا وَلَد

                 Wa-waa-lay-din-wa-maa-wa-lud

                By the father and whom he fathered

  • وَ — Wa — And (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj.)
  • وَالِدٍ۬ — Waa-lay–din — Father * (= Begetter; father; parent; who begot or fathered)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Whom (= Whoso; whomever)
  • وَلَدٌ — Wa-lud — Fathered ( = Begot; descendant. Boy. Child. Male off-spring. Son)

* Note 090:004.  The words ‘father and whom he fathered’ have been applied to many scenarios.
—  a. For generations the family of the Holy Prophet s.a.w had been born citizens of Muk-kah. Their fathers were born there. Their sons were born there. The Holy Prophet s.a.w was born there. They all enjoyed the citizenship of and all rights to live in Mecca. That ended with his migration out of Mecca but he was foretold that soon he would return In fact the forecast extends to his future followers as ‘residents or even visitors’ (002:126). It came true in his lifetime. It has repeatedly come true for his followers for centuries.
—  b. Abraham and Ishmael (Allamah Nooruddin and M Zafrulla Khan)
—  c. The Holy Prophet s.a.w. who had a father, was a human being and was not a ‘Son of God’

The Holy Qor-aan                                         090:005                                 ○  لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ 

                La-qud-kha-luq-nul-in-saa-na-fee-ka-bud

                Most certainly We created man in hardship.

  • لَ — La Certainly * — (= Absolutely; categorically; definitely; doubtlessly; for sure; positively; specifically, surely; truly; verily; without a doubt)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Certainly * (= Absolutely; categorically; definitely, doubtlessly; for sure; positively, specifically, surely; truly; verily; without a doubt. Both this and the prior word mean very similar. These two words of Emphasis joined together are best translated as ‘Most Certainly’ and not ‘Certainly, Certainly. See ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect’)
  • خَلَقۡ — Kha-luq — Created (= Bent; brought into being; fashioned; formed; produced; shaped)
  • نَآ — Na…(ul) — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ — In-saa-na — Man (= The human being; mankind; the species known as man including his feminine gender woman)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= 1. Contained inside or amidst a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation. 2. Concerning; for the sake of; in reference, relative or pursuant to; regarding)
  • كَبَدٍ — Ka-bud — Hardship (= Committed to toil. Constant struggle. Difficulty. Haste. Hurried activity. Toil. Tough ‘Afflictions’  or ‘atmosphere of affliction’.

* Note 090:005. Other varying verbiages include the following.
o Raised ‘to face obstacles and struggle hard to achieve marvelous goals’ – Allamah Nooruddin.
o The meaning of this word embodies continuously striving harder and harder, in pursuing goals that keep getting higher and higher, with actions that keep growing faster and faster.
o Unending efforts for tangible results that keep getting further and further like chasing a rainbow
o Always in a great hurry to accomplish the lofty goals. A constant struggle.
o Consistent hassle between rise and fall. Continuous battle between good and bad.

  • رَقَبَةٍ — Ra-qua-bah — Neck (= 1. Bondsman. Captive. Slave. Halter around neck to indicate one human’s ownership by another human as a slave. 2. Any bondage like slavery including debt disease or other afflictions)

The Holy Qor-aan                                        090:018

○  ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ

                Thoom-ma-kaa-na-me-nul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-wa-ta-waa-sao-bis-sub-ray-wa-ta-waa-sao-bil-mur-ha-mah

               Thus he was of those who believed, urged the perseverance and urged the kindness.

  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Thus * (= After that; subsequently; then; thereafter; therefore)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — He became (= v., Conveys continuation by that one in the 3rd person ‘used to’. This verb indicates an act’s continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future – such as continued doing’ or ‘went on doing’)
  • مِنَ — Me-n…(ul) — Among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • ٱلَّذِين — La-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to said believers)
  • ءَامَنُواْ — Aa-ma-noo — Believed (= v., pl. 3rd person., who believed in the Holy Qor-aan, the and became Moslems; those in Faith)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَوَاصَوۡاْ — Ta-waa-sao — Exhorted (= Advised, encouraged, enjoined, joined in, preached, professed, prompted, pursued, spurred, urged and willed each other to accept, practice and preach)
  • بِ — B..(is) — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • لصَّبۡرِ — Sub-ray — Perseverance (= Consistency; constancy; endurance; fortitude; patience; patiently persistence; steadfastness)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَوَاصَوۡاْ — Ta-waa-sao — Exhorted (= Advised, encouraged, enjoined, joined in, preached, professed, prompted, pursued, spurred, urged and willed each other to accept, practice and preach)
  • بِ — B..(i) — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • ٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ — Mur-ha-mah — Kindness (= Compassion; kind treatment; merciful consideration; pity. Attending to the less-fortunate)

* Note 090:018. The verse # 090:018 ‘literally’ translates as follows: “Then he became among those who believed and exhorted with the perseverance and exhorted with the kindness.” Its message is repeated in 103:004 with some words changed.
—  The verse 090:018 has used the words ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ and مَرۡحَمَةِ . It has enumerated three qualifications that make their practitioners included among the winners.
—  The verse 103:004 has used the words اِلَّا and وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ andحَقِّ . It has enumerated two qualifications that make their practitioners excluded from being the losers.

The Holy Qor-aan                                         090:019                                     ○  أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ

               Olaa-eka-us-haa-bool-mai-ma-nah

              These are the people on the right.

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — Olaa-eka — These (= Aforesaid do-gooder persons)
  • اَصۡحٰبُ — Us-haa-bo..(l) — People (= Associates; citizens; companions; dwellers; disciples; friends; heirs; inmates; masters; occupants; owners; residents; supporters believing that the person, scenario or situation they support is qualified, rightfully deserving and well-deserved)
  • ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ — Mai-ma-nah — On the right (= On the right side; blessed with inner peace)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         090:020           ○  وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ

               Wul-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo-bay-aa-yaa-tay-naa-hoom-us-haa-bool-mush-aa-mah

               And those who rejected Our signs are the people on the left

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to said disbelievers)

Denied, refused or rejected faith or belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islaam and became Moslem or were blasphemers, faithless. heretic, infidels, pagans non-believers or resistors to God and unbelievers. 2. Acted ungratefully by failing to appreciate, thank for , use or utilize God-given abilities, blessings capabilities capacities, gifts, talents and opportunities by abusing or misusing them. Also, committed breach of faith)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means with)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — Signs (= n., plural of … manifestation; message; narrative; verse; revelation. 2. Command; direction; law; order. 3. Sign; corroboration; evidence; indication; lesson; portent; pointer; proof; symbol; token. 4. Part, portion pointing to the truth. 5.Every element to create clear crystal picture leading to an absolute conviction. 6. Argument or indication highlighting the manifest Truth)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — They all (= pro,, pl., m., 3rd person. Ref is to aforesaid disbelievers)
  • اَصۡحٰبُ — Us-haa-bo..(l) — People (= Associates; citizens; companions; dwellers; occupants; friends; heirs; inmates; masters; owners. Often added are ‘the ‘rightfully deserving or well-deserved’)
  • ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ — Mush-aa-mah — On the left (= On the wrong side. The wretchedness)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         090:021                                          ○  عَلَيۡہِمۡ نَارٌ۬ مُّؤۡصَدَة

                Alai-him-naa-roon-mo-sa-dah

               Vaulting over them will be Fire

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                096:001 to 020

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ
اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَ‌ۚ‏ ○ خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ‌ۚ‏ ○ اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّكَ الۡاَكۡرَمُۙ الَّذِىۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِۙ‏ عَلَّمَ  الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡؕ‏ 
     كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَيَطۡغٰٓىۙ‏ ○ اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰىؕ‏ ○ اِنَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ الرُّجۡعٰىؕ‏ ○ اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِىۡ يَنۡهٰىؕ‏ ○ عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰىؕ‏ ○ اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَانَ عَلَى الۡهُدٰٓىۙ ○ ‏اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰىۙ‏ ○ اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىؕ‏ ○ اَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَرٰىؕ‏○ كَلَّا لَٮِٕنۡ لَّمۡ يَنۡتَهِ ۙ لَنَسۡفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِيَةِۙ‏ ○ نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ‌ ۚ فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهٗ ۙ‏ ○ سَنَدۡعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ ۙ‏ ○ كَلَّاؕ‏ لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَاسۡجُدۡ وَاقۡتَرِبْ۩‏

3. He created man from a clot
4. Read. By God, your God is Most Generous
5. Who taught with the pen
6. He taught man what he did not know before 
7. The fact is that man most definitely does transgress
8. Because he saw himself needless
9. Certainly to your God is the Final Return
10. Did you see him who stops
11. A servant when he prays
12. Did you see if he had been on the right road
13. Or, exhorted with pursuing the righteousness
14. Have you seen if he lied or turned away
15. Does he not know with certainty that Allah sees
16. The fact is that if he does not stop, catching surely will be by the forelock
17. Forelock, lying, erring
18. Then let him call his supporters
19. Soon We will call the angels guards of Hell
20. The fact is that you do not obey him. And you prostate. And you get near God.

* Note 096:004.  Mostly وَ  has been translated as a conjunction. But construing it as the وَ of oath and so stating that “By God, your God is the Most Generous” conveys accurately the real intent of the original text because of the following.
1. That statement is absolute truth about the Almighty Allah.
2. That statement is factual direction – ‘You read in the name of your God who is the Most Generous.’
3. That statement is an explanation with solid reasoning. God has generously empowered you to verbalize your feelings by reading and writing. Other creature we know are not blessed that way.

Ul-la-zee-ulla-ma-bil-qua-lum

Who taught with the pen

Kul-laa-in-nul-in-saa-na-la-yut-ghaa

The fact is that the man most definitely does transgress

  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) Definitely  (= Absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily. See ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together ..’)*
  • ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ — In-saa-na — The man (= The human being; mankind; the species known as man including his feminine gender woman)
  • لَ — La — Definitely (= Absolutely; certainly; positively; surely; truly; verily. See ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together ..’)
  • يَطۡغٰٓى — Yut-ghaa — Does Transgress (= v., Commits sins; errs; fouls; flops; rebels; makes mistakes intentionally; transgresses in bad and evil)

* Note 096:007.  The ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect‘ shows why one clause in Arabic using two words of emphasis ( اِنَّ and لَ ) with similar meanings in English is best translated by adding the ‘most’ before ‘definitely’ instead of repeating the word ‘definitely’ twice.

The Holy Qor-aan                                          096:008                                                   اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰى

Un-raa-hoos-tugh-naa

Because he saw himself needless

  • رَّا — Raa — Saw (= Deemed; imagined; looked; perceived; thought; took)
  • هُ — Ho…(os) Himself (= s., m., in 3rd person. Refers to Man, إِنسَـٰنَ )
  • اسۡتَغۡنٰى — S-tugh-naa — Needless (= (= Beyond or without a need to depend on anyone else. His own master; self-sufficient; totally independent.
    Also implies the meanings of being audacious, cheeky, disrespectful, impertinent, impudent, insolent and rude)

In-na-elaa-rub-bay-kur-rooj-aa

Certainly to your God is the Final Return

  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • اِلٰٓى — E-laa — To (= In the direction of; towards)
  •  رَبِّ  — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka…(ur) — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • الرُّجۡعٰى — Rooj-aa — Final Return (= Eventual, final and ultimate Return to account for one’s actions)

Did you see him who stops

Ub-done-ezaa-sul-laa

A servant when he prays

  • عَبۡدًا — Ub-done — A servant (= n., s., Bondsmen; slaves; supplicants; true Believers who worship; worshiper)
  • اِذَاۤ — Izaa — When (= Any time or event; now that; whenever)
  • صَلّٰى — Sul-laa — He prays (= 1- Beseeches; supplicates. 2- Offers the mandated five daily prayers. 3- Prays in gratitude night and day, all the time, in everything one did; stood in prayer)

Aa-ra-ai-ta-in-kaa-na-aa-lul-ho-daa

Did you see if he had been on the right road

Ul-la-zee-yo-wus-way-so-fee-so-doo-rin-naa-s

Who incites through the hearts of the Mankind

  • الَّذِىۡ — U-la-zee — Who (= Sing., m., 3rd person. That one article, thing or person)
  • يُوَسۡوِسُ — Yo-wus-way-so — Incites (= v., Creates incitement; grows, sneaks and suggests bad thoughts; causes images to silently crop up in the victim’s mind; develops images of wild wicked imagination; gossips; insinuates; spreads innuendos. See our Commentary “Whispering“)

*Note 114:006. The verb shows the commencement of an unending process of imagined situations.  Everyone suffers occasional bouts of evil thoughts that stem from some smell, scene or memory.  The original thought and reaction appear out of thin air as if someone had secretly whispered to them. The time-wasting unproductive mental gymnastic sequence keeps growing, often exponentially.  The wild imagination occasionally slows down as if to evaluate the impact of the initial whispering.  Diminishing or dissipation of these wild evil thoughts is short-lived but return stronger, severer.  After a brief lull the suggestive injection invariably lunges forward with much mightier onslaught.  Successive waves of pure imagination, brief reprieves and silly daydreaming establish evil cycle.  The thought process grows more lucrative by the minute as most efforts to curb or control it fail.  Most people experience them and succumbing to them is easy like flowing in a downhill torrent.  To stop such an unproductive chain of thoughts is hard and tantamount to climbing an uphill path. Checking these useless wild flights involving unreal out-of-life episodes just imagined is not easy.  However, they are surmountable with the help of prayers, patience and persistence; see 002:046.  Verses 002:068, 002:209; 003:037, 023: 098, 025:066, 041:037 and Soorah 114 give the prayers. A heavy dose of willpower coupled with a  divine prayer effectively suppresses evil tendencies. The root to all mischief in the world is the emanation of ignoble thoughts, ideas, designs and plans.

This word وَسۡوَاسِ  (plural) means sudden outburst of ignoble instigations against which the prayer seeking God’s protection is a proven strategy.

On the other hand is its antonym و حى (singular) which means Holy messages from the Almighty God revealed upon noble, pious, righteous and saintly individuals.

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • اَحَدٌ — Aa-hud — One (= All by Himself; individual; single; unique)

* Note 112:002. The word قُلۡ means ‘you say’ and carries numerous connotations including the following.

  1. Firstly, it commands the reader to deliver the message to all ‘other’ persons in the whole wide world.
  2. Secondly, it orders the reader to ‘tell himself’ also so that his telling others only is not tantamount to hypocrisy.
  3. Thirdly, it directs the reader to acknowledge that he has received the message.
  4. Fourthly and most importantly, it mandates the reader to psychologically affirm his resolve by expressing his ‘state of mind’ such as ‘I will do as told’.

Allah is beyond needs

  • ٱلصَّمَدُ — Sa-mud — Beyond needs (= Far above needing anything or anyone; having no needs; a/t/a/ Besought of all; Eternal; Eternal and Absolute; Eternal cause of all beings; Self-existing; Self-sufficient) *

* Note 112:003. Various translators have worded their concept about the meanings of this word differently. Self-sufficient Master whom everyone needs and Who needs no one, no food, no drink, no one else. The One Supreme Being, Independent on Whom all others depend,

Lum-ya-lid-wa-lum-yoo-lud

  • لَهَبٍ — La-ha-bin — Flames (= Of fiery anger; points to all haughty enemies)
  • وَ —  Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَبَّ — Tub — Ruined (=Annihilated; destroyed; doomed; perished) **

* Note 111:002a. The verse give an historical account of an individual. He had amassed a lot of wealth, muscle power and gathered supporters covering his flanks. He was an uncle of Holy Prophet s.a.w and his staunchest opponent and named Abee-Lahb. The name Abee-Lahb is also one phrase which speaking literally is comprised of two words. The first is أَبِى which means the father, master, owner or person with power and control. The second is لَهَبٍ which literally means the flames and refers to the hot-tempered person. The combination of two words reflects a person who has a fiery temper and a short fuse. Such men usually attract more of their kind around them and form gangs to reflect leaders. The phrase as a name portrayed him accurately

** Note 111:002b. The verse provides the historical account about an individual who had a lot of muscle power and supporters covered his flanks. They perished when they opposed the Messenger of God. Similar utter ruin awaits those who oppose those engaged in the work of God. It is a rule of universal application.

Holy Qor-aan                                         111:003                                     مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُ ۥ وَمَا ڪَسَبَ

                Maa-ugh-naa-un-ho-maa-lo-hoo-wa-maa-ka-sub

                Neither all he owns nor what he earned will avail him

  • مَاۤ — Maa — Neither (= Never; no; nor; not; not all; total negation)
  • أَغۡنَىٰ — Ugh-naa — Would avail (= v., Benefit; dispense with; ended the need of; exempt. No benefit or profit would accrue)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= Concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person.  Refers to Abee-Lahb type person)
  • مَا — Maa — All that (= All that and whatever assets, gains, money, property, richness, sources and wealth one owns. a/t/a children. Much wider meanings spring up by seeing this word as a combination of two words. Firstly, مَاۤ meaning ‘all that; whatever or whatsoever.’ Secondly لَ meaning ‘Belongs to, is owned by, is for the benefit, purpose or reason. Thus the combination includes everything one owns) *
  • لُ — Lo — Has / Owns (= For, for the benefit, purpose or reason; owned by)
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to Abee-Lahb type person)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Nor (= Neither; never; no; not all; total negation)
  • ڪَسَب — Ka-sub — Earned (= Accomplished; accumulated; acquisitions; gatherings)

* Note 111:003. There is a clear distinction betweenمَا لُهُ ۥ and مَا ڪَسَب. The former means the assets, property, wealth and fortune a person may have inherited. The latter includes all that he may have himself earned and added to aforesaid inheritance. The moral is that whoso abuses his resources will see them wasted if not put to good use. The rule of universal application is that failure to serve mankind results in real destruction.

Holy Qor-aan                                                  111:004                                        سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارً۬ا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ۬

                Sa-yus-laa-naa-run-zaa-ta-la-hub

                Soon he will burn in fire with flames

  • يَصۡلَى — Yus-laa — He will burn (= Enter; plunged in; roast; scratch)
  • نَارً۬ا — Naa-run — A fire (= Hell; anger, punishment or wrath of Allah, purgatory. Literally the source of light and heat)

  • لَهَبٍ — La-hub — Flames (= Blazing; leaping; of fiery anger)

Reference generally is to slandering and defaming by gossip)

                Fee-jee-day-haa-hub-loom-mim-ma-sud
