Dr Al-Hilali and Dr Khan referred شَاهِدٍ to the “Witnessing day, the Friday'” and مَشۡهُوۡدٍ to the “Witnessed Day, i.e., the day of Arafah (Hujj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah.” 2. The Holy Qor-aan 085:005 ○قُتِلَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡاُخۡدُوۡدِ ۙ
Qo-tay-la-us-haa-bool-ookh-doo-d
Ruined were the people of the pits
* Note 085:005. Burning dissidents on stakes for opposing established religion has been one old practice. Abraham for that reason was ordered to be put on fire that was extinguished by timely divine dictate. Mediaeval Europe witnessed many lives sacrificed at the stakes for exactly that deplorable reason. The Jewish King of Yemen Zu-Nuwas persecuted Christians of Najran by burning them on pits. That was “In the generation immediately preceding the Prophet’s birth in 570” wrote A Yusuf Ali. And today in the 21st century the ISIS in Iraq is burning the people of religions other than theirs. Islam prohibits such atrocities and actually protects the rights of minorities to practice their faith. The teachings of the Holy Qor-aan such as in this verse apply to all mankind for all times to come. See our several Commentaries that start with the word ‘Qor-aan’ on this site.
