The Best Economic Plan

The Best Economic Plan

The verses (092:001 to 022) provide a simple but effective Economic Plan for the fiscal growth and financial security in a man’s personal, familial and societal life. It is like a whole semester’s study course in economics compacted in 21 brief sentences and rounded with spiritual aspects.

The three oaths in verses 002 to 004 refer to the natural phenomenon which every human being experiences every day. Verse 005 states that most people pursue several objectives. It is like a blind person who stretches arms in his perpetually dark world to find a direction. Every ambitious enterprising enthusiast has apparently been taught the same single plan. The hunger for his economic growth mandates his pursuing several goals simultaneously. The quest forces him to throw lots of mud up a wall hoping that some of it will get stuck. The greed keeps lit in him a fire to acquire and accumulate worldly assets as fast as he can. Diverse pursuit of several scattered targets cause confusion, dilute efforts and bring failure.

The verses 006 to 012 stat the problem and give the best plan to produce solid gains.
1. They exhort man to hail high the Truth, pursue piety and donate to charity – and in return get the guaranteed passage to easy life and prosperity.
2. They spell out the consequence of the opposites. Belie the truth, behave indifferently, act miserly – and fall fast to hardships, conflicts, disruptions and adversity.
3. They summarize the conclusion that disregarding the plan will bring total ruin which can’t be repelled with all the money, wealth and assets man may acquire and amass.

Sharing one’s good fortune with the less fortunate benefits plenteously both the giver and taker. Replacing diverse efforts with focused attention on one goal generally generates greater success. Implementing the highlighted plan spurs one to practice more religiously, rigorously and vigorously. Making concerted, concentrated and coordinated endeavor in one single field reaps rapid rewards. Specialization in a legal, medical, academic and professional arena is just one of many advantages. The consequence of such single-minded work is better results, greater fruit and more to donate in piety. The end of confusion establishes a virtual cycle of hard work, higher productivity, more spirituality. As one gets closer to God and gets peace for himself he spreads calm all around right from his taker. Fine-tuned further by 023:011/012 the divine plan is elaborated all over again in 070:030 to 036.

Verses 013 and 014 reiterate the universal truths and God’s guidance. He controls the present and the future and makes Man recall the past as a learning process. Verses 015 to 019 show the Fire one flies in by flouting the plan or can avoid by following it. The last three verses tell how the donations must be to delight God and not expect a reward. Over fourteen centuries God delivered the most productive economic plan He had designed. About 1200 years later the experience of man and Industrialization Age found that was true. Productivity was maximized by paying 1/4th of revenue to all economic activity components. Distributing 25% of revenue to land, labor, capital and management balanced the economy. Most fair wealth-distribution!!

But then the human greed got the upper hand. The capital devoured over 25% birthing the Capitalism. The management grabbed over 25% and produced Communism. The labor dragged in over 25% and bred Socialism. And the greed gave Man the unrest and wars that have stretched over centuries. Would man ever revert to the economic plan God gave him!

The Interruptions to Speakers

The Interruptions to Speakers

The verse 082:002 provides a principle of public etiquette. Anyone addressing public to deliver some important or complicated speech when interrupted, nuisance-questioned or hackled knows the value of this Prohibition. It highlights this rule as of a Universal Application.

It was revealed after the Holy Prophet s.a.w was talking to disbelieving leaders of the Quraish tribe. He was interrupted by a blind person named Abdullah bin Omme Makhtum by asking a question. He ignored the interruption, continued talking and received the important lesson in this revelation. This Soorah quelled all possible criticism although the blind man could not see himself ignored.

M Zafrulla Khan applied this verse to “The Prophet’s visitor” and not to the Holy Prophet s.a.w, and added, “Grieve not over his having turned away for how couldst thou have known that the one with whom thou wast engaged would purify himself.” Malik Ghulam Farid in his Note 3250 wrote that the he s.a.w “and, in reality, through him, his followers” were provided a great rule for the human village and all were taught to “have regard for the tender susceptibilities of the poor and humble” among them.

The critics have claimed that it was the Holy Prophet s.a.w who had frowned and turned aside. They implied that this Soorah was a ‘divine reproach or rebuke’ administered to the Holy Prophet s.a.w. Innuendos suggested in translating this section far exceeded than what actually had taken place there. Insinuations on the underlying facts reflect the fertility of the minds of those who have criticized. “(The Prophet) frowned and turned away.” Many others have said much the same. “And how would you know? He might have sought to purify himself. Or he might have received admonition.” – “And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?”- Examples of could’a should’a would’a include the following.
 He (s.a.w) “Should have repented.”
 He (s.a.w) “Should have recalled him and treated him more gently.”
 He (s.a.w) “Did not chide the intruder but just disliked.”
And although approval-clad but really a back-handed criticism added the following also.
 He (s.a.w) “Would be the last person to give permanence to a reproval of his own act. ”
 ‘The source of his (s.a.w) revelation was other than his own mind.”

The Callers To Allah

The Callers To Allah

The seven (079:002 to 008) verses about The Callers To Allah have been translated by referring them to the beings, angels, companions, snatchers, planets, stars and horses as follows.

1. The Holy Qor-aan has used a phrase that means “who invited, called or drew attention to Allah” (041:034). That whole phrase appears to be pretty close to if not the nearest to the meanings of one word النّٰزِعٰتِ used in verse 079:002. That is why we have placed at number 1 the translation which states about those “Groups of beings, who perform their duties (towards their Lord and mankind and themselves) with intense zeal and to the best of their capacity” as interpreted by Allamah Nooruddin.

2. Angels. — A Yusuf Ali wrote: By the angels who “Tear out the souls of the wicked with violence .. Gently draw out the souls of the blessed .. Glid along on errands .. Then press forward as in a race .. Arrange to do the Commands of their Lord .. One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion … oft-repeated Commotions.”
— M Muhammad Ali wrote: “Commentators generally” have said so.
— M M Pickthall quoted “Who console the spirit (of the righteous) tenderly” and “Come floating down from heaven.”
— Dr Khan and Dr Al-Hilali stated the angels who “pull out the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked with great violence .. Gently take out the souls of the believers .. Swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits) .. That press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses) .. Arrange to do the Commands of their Lord (so you disbelievers will be called to account .. On the Day (when the first .. Trumpet is blown) the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die) .. The second blowing of the Trumpet .. (and everybody will be resurrected).”
— But Malik Ghulam Farid disagreed with them all by saying that “the evidence of the angels is beyond human knowledge or comprehension.”

3. Companions of the Holy Prophet s.a.w as these verses “MAY BE taken as embodying a prophecy about the spread of Islam … through their selfless and vigorous efforts ..and a “further prophecy that they would be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting and administering public affairs of great importance with ability and justice” – Malik Ghulam Farid although such view would limit these verses to the life-span of the companions.

4. Snatchers who “violently snatch away men’s soul” … “And those who gently release them; by those who float at will and those who speed headlong.” – N J Dawood

5. Whatever is meant by the following since any reader can deduce from what was said.
a. By those “Who drag forth to destruction .. meteors rushing .. lone stars floating .. angels hastening .. who govern the event .. “First trump resoundeth .. And the second followeth it.” — M M Pickthall.
b. By those “Who pluck out vehemently .. that move forward rapidly .. that swim vigorously .. that outstrip suddenly .. who conduct a certain affair. On the Day when earth shall quake; followed soon afterwards by the sky.” — Ahmad Zidan

6. The procedure to keep recurring in applying to mankind as long as they are on earth.

* Note 080:006. In summary the verses 080:006 to 012 can be translated as follows. It is strange that he who is indifferent, you fret for him and it is not up to you to cleanse him. But he who came to you making special effort and really feared Allah, then you neglect him. By no means it could be so. M Zafrulla Khan served an excellent translation of these verses. “How could it be that” is his translation of the word اَمَّا . Others summarized this section as if it were a Prohibition, and they verbalized the warning with the words “Do not do like this.”

Islam – 104 – The 5 Acts of worship – Pillars of Islam

ISLAM – 104

The 5 Acts of worships or pillars of Islam

Verse 002:004 lays out three of the five Acts of worships – also called the pillars of Islam. The Holy Qor-aan mandates other worships elsewhere, often repeating them in several verses.

All Moslems are mandated to practice these worships, voluntarily, of their own accord, and are responsible for doing them to please God as a personal matter between them and the Almighty.

1st worship — Practiced every moment = Proclamation of the belief in the Unseen that no human has physically seen.  Such Belief includes believing in the following Unseen and the Seen.

  1. The One and the Only One Almighty God – verse 002:178, 002:286 and many others.
  2. His Accounting laid in 002:178 and explained in the whole Chapters 078, 079, 080, 081, 082, 083, 084, 085, 088, 089 besides several other places as to what is the Hereafter, the Day of Judgment and when Hell or Heaven will be awarded.
  3. His Angels – verses 002:178 and 002:286.
  4. His Scriptures – verses 002:178 and 002:286.
  5. His Messengers – verses 002:178 and 002:286.

2nd worship — Practiced every day = Prayers many times daily mandated by verses 002:044, 017:079, 098:006 and others. The Holy Prophet s.a.w by his practice established the following pattern.

  1. Mandatory prayer Fajr offered before dawn.
  2. Mandatory prayer Zohr offered around noon.
  3. Mandatory prayer Asr offered late afternoon.
  4. Mandatory prayer Mugh-rib offered at sunset.
  5. Mandatory prayer Isha offered at early night.
  6. Highly recommended Ta-huj-jud offered about 1.5 hr before sunrise – 017:080
  7. Highly recommended Ish-raaq offered around two hours after the sunrise.

3rd  worship — Practiced every earnings = Paying Zakaat (see Commentary Islam – Zakaat) or contributing to charity in the causes of Almighty God is mandated by verses 002:044, 098:006 and at least 18 others verses.  A worker may receive wages daily, weekly or monthly and a farmer may harvest once a year but Zakaat is payable when earning is received.

4th worship — Practiced every year = Fasting during the month of Ramadhan every year as mandated by verses 002:184 to 002:188.

5th worship — Practiced every life = Performing Hujj or Haj  mandated by verse 002:197 and others.  This worship includes visiting and praying in the Kauba, Holy Mosque, Arafaat, Mush-aril-haraam, Mooz-da-le-faah, doing the To-waaf and Sa-ee, stoning the Satans and performing other prescribed rituals.

Besides the above, verse 002:178 gives a detailed account of other basic elements of the Faith.  Also, “Gratitude for God’s gifts is one form of worship” – Note 172 by A Yusuf Ali.
