Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.

Holy Qor-aan                                                  094:002                                         اَلَمۡ نَشۡرَحۡ لَـكَ صَدۡرَكَۙ

Aa-lum-nush-ruh-la-ka-sud-ra-ka

Have We not broadened your mind for you?

  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. The one male addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)

* Note 094:009. The Commandment is to establish single-mindedly the worship of the Almighty God. He knew that the hassle of earning livelihood will hang on man’s’ mind and hamper his worship. He Himself prioritized the sequence and made man responsible to first finish fending for family. He directed man to turn to Him after he had completely provided the essentials which sustain life. He finally told man to dig in His remembrance with full attention, surely, securely and squarely. .

Then that is he who shuns the orphan

Who are unmindful about their prayers

  • سَاهُونَ — Saa-hoon — Unmindful (= Careless; distracted; heedless; neglectful; oblivious; inattentive; unfocused. Also those who ‘delay their prayers from their stated fixed times’; ‘who outwardly / visibly offer prayers but are inwardly / really the hypocrites’; ‘who ignore the spirit, aim and object of praying’)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:007                                        ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ

Ul-la-zee-na-hoom-yo-raa-oon

Those who act to be just seen

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to articles, things or persons)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom  — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid worshipers)
  • يُرَآءُونَ  — Yo-raa-oon  — Act to be seen (= Attempt, endeavor, try or want to just the show-off; create the illusions of worshiping; make a show of piety. Also, the hypocrites who do good deeds just to be seen by others. The show-offs)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:008                                           وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ

Wa-yum-na-oo-nul-maa-oon

And withhold even tiny kindnesses

  • يَمۡنَعُونَ — Yum-na-oona — Withhold (= Abstain, desist, deny, hold back, refuse, refrain or stop)
  • ٱلۡمَاعُونَ  — Ul-maa-oo-n(ul)  — Tiny kindness (= Charity; least beneficence; legal alms; small favor or simple request for help that cost the giver little or zero. Also, refusing ‘Even to supply neighborly needs’; ‘acts of kindness’; ‘small kindnesses like salt, sugar, water’)

Note 107:008. This prohibition is to avoid doing the prevented acts. It also mandates people to stay away from obstructing those who avoid the prevented acts by their word, conduct or other means. An example is a proponent of Free Enterprise in a Capitalistic Society who touts against welfare assistance to the socio-economic disadvantaged segment of his own people, group, countrymen and even family.

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)

Wudh–dho-haa

By the brilliant brightness of the day

  • الضُّحٰى — Dho-haa — Brightness (= Brilliant brightened morning; forenoon; light of the day; growing brightness of the morning or forenoon)

Wul-lai-lay-ezaa-sa-jaa

By the dark stillness of the night

  • الَّيۡلِ — Lai-lay — Night (= The opposite of sunlit day; the period between sun-set and the following dawn)

  • سَجٰى — Sa-jaa — Stills (= Becomes still enveloped in thick dark. Brooding stillness of the night. Calm and quiet of the darkness spread out all around. Gets darkened)

Ma-wud-da-aa-ka-rub-bo-ka-wa-maa-qa-laa

Your God has not forsaken you nor forgotten you

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                            092:001

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡم

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ ○ وَٱلنَّہَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ ○ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَى ○  إِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتَّىٰ  ○  فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أَعۡطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ  ○  وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ  ○  فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ ۥ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ  ○  وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ  ○  وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ  ○  فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ ۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ  ○  وَمَا يُغۡنِى عَنۡهُ مَالُهُ ۥۤ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ  ○  إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَلۡهُدَىٰ  ○  وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلۡأَخِرَةَ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ  ○  فَأَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارً۬ا تَلَظَّىٰ  ○  لَا يَصۡلَٮٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى  ○  ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ  ○  وَسَيُجَنَّبُہَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى  ○  ٱلَّذِى يُؤۡتِى مَالَهُ ۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ  ○  وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُ ۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٍ۬ تُجۡزَىٰٓ  ○  إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ  ○  وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ

3. By the day when that brightens everything in the sunshine
4. By all that He created as male and female

6. So as far him who gave and feared God
7. And upheld the good
8. Then soon We ease him on way to the Prosperity

9. And as far him who was miserly and indifferent
10. And denied the good
11. Then soon We ease him on way to the Adversity
12. And all his wealth will not help him when he is turned over to ruin

13. Most certainly on Us is the guidance
14. And most certainly for Us is the End and the Beginning

15. So I warn you of the Fire with flames
16. None will burn in it except the most Unfortunate
17. Who belied the truth and turned away
18. And the Pious will quickly escape it
19. Who gives his wealth cleansing himself

20. And no one has with him a favor to be returned
21. He seeks little (in giving his wealth) except for a favor of his God, the Most High
22. And certainly very soon he will be real happy

  • تَجَلّٰىۙ — Ta-jul-laa — Brightens (= Becomes radiant and resplendent; brings the light of the day. Glory of morning hours appears in full splendor. Growing brightness of the forenoon. Morning appears bright with sunshine; shines)

  • شَتّٰى — Shu-taa — Spread (= Dispersed, diverse, going, scattered or split in different directions; aiming at or seeking different goals and ends. Implication is that Man is confused about the end goal which is better for him to focus all hi attention on it and make an all out effort to reach it)

Fa-um-maa-mun-autaa-wut-a-quaa

So as far him who gave and feared God

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; in result; then; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • اَمَّا — Um-maa — As far (= Combination of two words. The first word اَن means ‘that.’ The second word مَا means ‘all that; whatever.’ Joined together they mean ‘whatever’ or ‘as far as’)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whosoever)
  • اَعۡطٰى — Au-taa — Donated (= v. Awarded. Bestowed. Gifted; Granted. Contributed. Gave in charity or spent to promote the good causes and in the cause of Allah. Devoted to God all his abilities, capabilities, resources and talents)

Most certainly on Us is the guidance

  • عَلٰى — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over; upon.
    Also incurs, obligates, subjects himself to, or takes on)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)

Fa-un-zur-to-koom-naa-run-ta-luz-zaa

So I warn you of the Fire with flames

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • اَنۡذَرۡتُ — Un-zur-to — I warn (= Advise; issue caution; inform; notify; presage; tip off)
  • كُم — Koom — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You men. Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women)

And the Pious will quickly escape it

And no one has with him a favor to be returned

Il-lub-te-ghaa-aa-wuj-hay-rub-bay-hil-au-laa

He seeks little (in giving his wealth) except for a favor of his God, the Most High

وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضٰى

Wa-la-sao-fa-yur-dzaa

And certainly very soon he will be real happy*

  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; positively; surely; truly; verily)

  • يَرۡضٰى — Yur-dzaa — Real happy (= v., m gender., 3rd person., Attain complete satisfaction. Become totally content. Really satisfied. Well pleased.)**

** Note: Various translators have drawn different conclusions by referring the ‘3rd person’ verb to one of the following scenarios.

  • He ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous) will be pleased by his God.
  • He ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous) will be well-pleased by entering the Paradise.
  • The Almighty God will be well-pleased with him ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous).
