o “High-bosomed maidens” as per N J Dawood.
o “Perfected maidens of equal age and beauty” as per Ahmad Zidan.

See above 078:028 for a different shade of the meanings of this word)

*Note 078:037. The word حِسَابًا (hay-saa-baa) literally means ‘appropriately, equally or properly counted and balanced account’, ‘in equal balance commensurate with the work done.’ The same one word has been used to convey two different shades of its meanings as given in the verses 078:028 and 078:037.

And there is another, almost opposite meanings of this word as a ‘characteristic of the spoken language or of writing that is used to create the effect of conversation.’ Colloquially and customarily it conveys being ‘Beyond measurements’ and ‘over and above the balanced, equal or normal reward.’ In this sense it conforms to the Hadeeth that Islam dismantles and demolishes the previous evil deeds and so do the migration for Allah’s sake and Hujj (pilgrimage to Makkah) as reported in the Sahih Muslim. Other Hadeeth have reported that sincerely embracing Islam begets rewards from ten to seven hundred times.

But a different translation was given as “None shall speak except (Muhammad) to whom the Most Gracious (God) will grant permission and who will speak (only) what is right.”

The Holy Spirit

The (Holy) Spirit

The verse 017:086 tells of a question people ask about the Spirit and provides an answer that this “Matter lies in the domain of Allah and you are not given its knowledge except a little.”

One question is answered by mentioning that the Spirit and the angels a) would ‘stand in rows‘ (078:039) on that day before the Almighty God, b) are ‘sent to His servants‘ (016:003), do c) ‘ascend to Him‘ (070:005) and d) ‘descend to the earth‘ (097:005). Such descriptions clearly show the Spirit as the Chief of the Angels who like an army General is in the lead while other angels stand behind their leader like the soldiers — in rows and according to their ranks.

Another question for which the Almighty God provided a limited information to humans is as follows.
a. It is part of Him (019:018).
b. It comes from Him (015:030, 038,073).
c. It has come to ‘you’ (042:053).
d. It is breathed in man when balancing him with the hearing, seeing and a heart (032:010)
e. It came to the chaste woman (021:092) named Mary (004:172).

Translations have generally agreed that the said ‘Spirit’ is also called the ‘Trusted’ Spirit which poured this [The Holy Qor-aan] into your heart (026:194) and the ‘Holy’ Spirit which has supported prophets like “Jesus son of Mary” (002:088).

Translators have disagreed on some issues. A Yusuf Ali added rise to the Judgment-Seat in his Note and overruled the dominant view. The Almighty God (after repeating some of the contents of 006:166 in 043:033) said in 043:034, “If all men were not to become of one type, He would have given His deniers silver stairs to climb up and reach Him.” Interpreting from this that the virtuous human beings become angels after dying appears a bit stretch. That is why the readers should take a pinch of salt when they come across the following words.
• The Note 2651 by M Muhammad Ali stated that the Holy Spirit was “the spirit of man when it leaves the earthly body.”
• The Note 5911 by A Yusuf Ali concluded that “It is better to take a wider meaning – the souls of men collectively as they rise to the Judgment-Seat of God.”

We have yet to come across any known divine revelation to the effect that the virtuous people turn into angels when they die. In the world of fiction, however, there was a TV series in which the spirit of an evil-doer ran amuck until it had performed a good deed, and after doing one assigned good deed the spirit of that evil-doer also turned into an angel.

1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.
2. By those who invite to God, deeply dedicated
3. And by those who bond with God, really toughened
4. And by the fast movers, wholly determined
5. Then the go-getters excelling with the best conviction
6. Then the executives managing with the real production
7. You hear that day the sound of the first blow of the Trumpet
8. Following that the second blow of the Trumpet
9. That day the hearts trembling
10. Their eyes frightened
11. They would say, “Are we really going to be returned to old ways …
12. Would it be when we had been bones rotten
13. They would say, “Return of that kind would be a real loss”
14. Then indeed there would be only one shake
15. Then look! they all will be in the openness

16. Has come to you the history of Moses
17. When his God called him in the Holy valley of To-waa
18. Go to Pharaoh. He surely has rebelled.
19. Then ask, “Do you have a plan to cleanse (= How about cleansing) yourself?”
20. And I can guide you to your God so you will fear Him
21. So he (Moses) showed him (Pharaoh) the Tremendous Sign
22. But he (Pharaoh) denied and disobeyed
23. Then he turned away hurrying
24. So he gathered his people. Then he announced
25. Then He said, “I am your Lord, the Supreme.”
26. So Allah set him up as an example for those yet to come and those gone by
27. Most certainly in this is a lesson for whoever fears God

28. Were you harder to create or the sky that He built
29. He raised its pitch. Then He perfected it
30. And He darkened its night. And He brought out its bright forenoon
31. And after that He spread the earth
32. He produced from it its water and its pasture
33. And the mountains, He firmed them up
34. As provisions for you and for your cattle

35. Then when the Great Disaster has arrived
36. The day man would remember all that he had pursued
37. And the Hell opened up for whoso could see
38. Thus as regards he who rebelled
39. And preferred the present life
40. Then surely it is the Hell that is the abode
41. And as regards who feared standing before his God and restrained himself from lust
42. Then surely it is the paradise that is the abode

43. They ask you about the Hour, “When would it arrive?”
44. Regarding that how can you tell?
45. With your God is its ultimate answer

46. You certainly are a Warner for anyone who fears it
47. The day they see it surely would be to them like they had not stayed in this life except a night or its one day.

* Note 079:007. Army uses trumpets for signals. The sounds by blowing into a trumpet relay various messages to all soldiers in the hearing range. The earliest in the morning or the first trumpet sound الرَّاجِفَةُ usually announces the morning rally. The last in the evening or the second trumpet sound الرَّادِفَةُ usually closes all activities for the day. That aspect was captured in the following extract in one translation. “On the Day (when the first … Trumpet is blown) the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die) … The second blowing of the Trumpet … (and everybody will be resurrected).”

Many translators have colored aforesaid ‘manifest and temporal’ concept with spiritual connotations. Most people commit wrongs in the heat of passion, storm of anger or some dire human necessity. Such fall by succumbing to temptation entails the consequences which one must bear for his acts. Then the remorse sets in after the initial forceful upheaval subsides and cooler conditions return. Thus the commentators have likened these two verses to that rise and fall to the Day of Judgment. On that day everyone must answer for deeds done and accept the awards announced.
