وَكَذٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنٰكُمۡ اُمَّةً وَّسَطًا لِّتَکُوۡنُوۡا شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَيَكُوۡنَ الرَّسُوۡلُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ شَهِيۡدًا ؕ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا الۡقِبۡلَةَ الَّتِىۡ كُنۡتَ عَلَيۡهَآ اِلَّا لِنَعۡلَمَ مَنۡ يَّتَّبِعُ الرَّسُوۡلَ مِمَّنۡ يَّنۡقَلِبُ عَلٰى عَقِبَيۡهِ ‌ؕ وَاِنۡ كَانَتۡ لَكَبِيۡرَةً اِلَّا عَلَى الَّذِيۡنَ هَدَى اللّٰهُ ؕ وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيُضِيْعَ اِيۡمَانَكُمۡ‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوۡفٌ رَّحِيۡمٌ‏

 

Wa-ka-zaa-lay-ka-ja-ul-naa-koom-omma-ton-wa-sa-ton
Lay-ta-koo-noo-sho-ha-daa-aa-alun-naa-say
Wa-ya-koo-nur-ra-soo-lo-alai-koom-sha-he-daa
Wa-maa-ja-ul-nul-qib-la-tul-la-tee-koon-ta-alai-haa
Il-laa-lay-nau-la-ma-mun-yut-ta-bay-ur-ra-soo-la
Mim-mun-yun-qa-lay-bo-alaa-aqau-bai-hay
Wa-in-kaa-nut-la-ka-bee-ra-ton-il-laa-alul-la-zee-na-ha-dul-laa-ho
Wa-maa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-lay-yo-dzee-aa-ee-maa-na-koom.
In-nul-laa-ha-bin-naa-say-la-ra-oo- foon-ra-hee-m.

 

And this way We made you a nation of moderates
So that you become witnesses on the people
And the Messenger becomes a witness on you.
And We had not fixed the Qibla on which you were
Except to expose who follows the Messenger
From him who turns on his two heels.
And most certainly it was a big thing except on those whom Allah had guided.
And Allah has never been for wasting your faiths.
Certainly Allah is the Kindest, Most Merciful with the people.

  • كَذٰلِكَ– Ka-zaa-lay-ka –This way (= Combines two words. كَ means ‘example, like, identical resembling, similar.’ ذٰلِكَ means ‘all this right in here and refers to an aforesaid event, fact, person or statement.’ The combination translated variously is ‘even so’, ‘so it will be’, ‘such is the way’, ‘like this’, ‘that is how’, ‘thus’)
  • جَعَلۡ — Ja-ul — Made (= v., p., Appointed; assigned; brought into being; caused; created; declared; designed; fashioned; formed; turned; labeled; produced; rendered; set up)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You * (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You men. Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women)
  • اُمَّةً — Omma-ton — Nation (= Community; group; large body of people in the world)
  • وَّسَطًا — Wa-sa-ton — Moderate (= Exalted nation; justly balanced; right in the center or middle; just and the best)
  • لِّ — Lay — So that (= For; for the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of)
  • تَکُوۡنُوۡا — Ta-koo-noo — You become (= v., Are; have been; conveys continuation from the past to the present and leading into the future)
  • شُهَدَآءَ — Shoha-daa-aa — Witnesses (= n., pl., 1. Those who testify to prove a fact; testifiers. 2. Guardian. Guiding example. 3, Bearing testimony as a witness)
  • عَلَى — Al…(un) — On (= Above; against; on top of; over; to; upon)

  • الرَّسُوۡلَ — Ra-soo-la — Messenger (= s., Apostle; God’s messenger; great prophet; sage; saint. Here the ال before the word رسُوۡلُ for the ‘messenger’ particularized it to mean only the Holy Prophet, s.a.w)
  • مِمَّنۡ — Mim-mun — From who (= Combination of two words. The first is مِنۡ that means “among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind or several persons or things.’ The second is مَنۡ meaning ‘who.’ The combination thus means ‘from who’ or ‘concerning, regarding or relative to whom)
  • يَّنۡقَلِبُ — Yun-qa-lay-bo — Turns (= Revolves; turns about; disowns)
  • عَلٰى — Alaa — On (= Above; against; before; for; on top of; over; upon)
  • عَقِبَيۡ — Aqau-bai — Two heels (= Heels; the rear-most part of a person’s foot)
  • هِ — Hay — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to anyone who failed to follow the Holy Prophet, s.a.w in changing the Qibla immediately when the Commandment to that effect came down)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اِنۡ — In — Definitely ** (= Absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • كَانَتۡ — Kaa-nut — Was (= v., Conveys continuation from the past to the present and leading into the future; has been; had been)

  • كَبِيۡرَةً — Ka-bee-ra-ton — Big thing (= Exacting discipline. Hard and heavy uphill task or test. Momentous situation. Used for both the good and bad; Hard test)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; but; besides; excluding; save; unless)
  • عَلَى — Ala…(ul) — On (= Above; against; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-na — Those whom (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to all those who followed the Holy Prophet, s.a.w in changing the Qibla immediately when the Commandment to that effect came down)
  • هَدَى — Ha-da…(ul) — Had guided (= v., Showed what was appropriate. `Led to the best way, correct course, linier lines, proper path or right road)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Absolutely never or not all was the purpose of Allah)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na…(ul) — Has been (= v., Conveys continuation from the past to the present into the future – like ‘continued doing’, ‘went on doing” ‘would have’ or ‘had been’. It is not the purpose of Allah)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of; so that)
  • يُضِيْعَ — Yo-dzee-aa – Wasting (= Render useless; of no consequence; of no effect; in vain make fruitless. Some translations have applied this verb to the prayers that Moslems had offered facing Jerusalem prior to the change of Qibla towards Kau-ba)
  • اِيۡمَانَ — Ee-maa-na — Faith (= Behest of Faith. Belief. Total confidence. Trust. Faith and worship)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You men. Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women)
  • اِنَّ — In-nul…(la) — Certainly ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • بِ — Be…(in) — With (= This word in Arabic literally means with)
  • النَّاسِ — Naa-say — The people (= Folks; human beings; mankind)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly verily)
  • رَءُوفُۢ — Ra-oo-foon — Kindest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most. and none more than Him is Kind, Considerate and Compassionate)
  • رَّحِيۡمٌ‏ — Ra-hee-m — Most Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most. and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like the endlessly and perpetually incoming waves from the oceans; Merciful Forever)

* Note 002:144. Two translators have elaborated the pronoun كُم used here as follows: “You [true Muslims – real believers of Islamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w and his Sunnah (legal ways)]”. This site denies the two things implied in above statement.

a. The narrowing down كُم to only ‘true Muslims’ suggests as if there were or can be ‘untrue’ Moslems. No human being has any right to declare whether or not another was really a true Moslem. Quotations by the Holy Prophet s.a.w have been reported to that effect in many incidents. Once the Moslems in Madina buried a stranger in the town and did not offer funeral prayer. When questioned they justified their conduct on the ground that he had not been a Moslem. The Holy Prophet s.a.w asked if they had looked in his heart to hold he was not a Moslem. Thus whoever has ‘followed’ him is a true ‘follower’ and there can be no ‘untrue’ followers.

b. By limiting his Sunnah to ‘legal ways. It was implied that some Sunnah were not ‘legal ways’ – a preposterous insinuation indeed. No one has any right to hold that any action by the Holy Prophet s.a.w was other than legal. The Holy Qor-aan declared him to be the Best Exemplar and his conduct worth duplicating. What he did was always what he then perceived to be a direction given by the Holy Qor-aan. An action requiring modification was done by the Almighty God by additional revelations. The incident of his following the old Qibla until directed to change clearly illustrates that. Scholastic opinions about some quotations (Hadeeth) may question the accuracy of others. But his proclaimed acts (Sunnah) remain most accurate dictates beyond any such challenge. So all his and their modifications under divine direction will forever remain 100% legal.

‏   سَيَقُوۡلُ السُّفَهَآءُ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَا وَلّٰٮهُمۡ عَنۡ قِبۡلَتِهِمُ الَّتِىۡ كَانُوۡا عَلَيۡهَا ‌ؕ قُل لِّلّٰهِ الۡمَشۡرِقُ وَالۡمَغۡرِبُ ؕ يَهۡدِىۡ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ اِلٰى صِراطٍ مُّسۡتَقِيۡم

 

Sa-ya-qoo-loos-so-fa-haa-o-may-nun-naa-say                                                                              Maa-wul-laa-hoom-un-qib-la-tay-hay-mool-la-tee-kaa-noo-alai-haa                                      Qool-lil-laa-hil-mush-ray-qo-wul-mugh-rib                                                                                    Yauh-dee-mun- ya-shaa-o-elaa-say-raa-tim-moos-ta-qee-m.

 

 Soon the foolish among the people will say,                                                                       “What turned them from the Qibla on which they had been.”                                   You say, “The East and the West are for Allah.                                                           He guides to the Right Road whomever He pleases.”

* Note 002:143.   The significance of قِبۡلَت (Qib-la) to offer prayers facing in one direction is recognized.   The Jewish and Christians practiced that and Moslems also prayed facing Qib-la in Jerusalem.   Then the Holy Qor-aan revelation 002:145 directed the Moslems to use Kau-ba as their Qib-la.   From then on the Moslems have offered their prayers that way both at home and in travelling.   Mosques the world over are built facing Kau-ba to facilitate public praying in their congregations.   Translation by Yusuf Ali verbalized the aspect: “Islam lays great stress on social prayer in order . . . (to foster) Universal Brotherhood and mutual co-operation.”

Our Commentary titled as Repetitions in the Holy Qor-aan have benefits  illustrated some in the Note 002:141.   Following words and phrases used in other verses are part of this verse 002:143 also.

  • 001:006 had taught a prayer which in 002:143, 002:214 and 006:040 is shown as God’s gift to all He chooses by putting on proper path and shown the right road, صِراطٍ مُّسۡتَقِيۡم.
  • 002:009 had discussed the assertion of some among men, مِنَ النَّاسِ.
  • 002:014 had described the conduct of the foolish, السُّفَهَآءُ‌.
  • 002:106 had detailed the Almighty God’s discretion to do what He deems to be the most appropriate thing to do, مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ.
  • 002:116 had directed man’s attention to the fact that all in the east and West belongs to Allah, لِّلّٰهِ الۡمَشۡرِقُ وَالۡمَغۡرِبُ.

وَاِذۡ قَالَ اِبۡرٰهمُ رَبِّ اَرِنِىۡ كَيۡفَ تُحۡىِ الۡمَوۡتٰى ؕ  قَالَ اَوَلَمۡ تُؤۡمِنۡ‌ؕ  قَالَ بَلٰى وَلٰـكِنۡ لِّيَطۡمَٮِٕنَّ قَلۡبِىۡ‌ؕ  قَالَ فَخُذۡ اَرۡبَعَةً مِّنَ الطَّيۡرِ  فَصُرۡهُنَّ اِلَيۡكَ ثُمَّ اجۡعَلۡ عَلٰى كُلِّ جَبَلٍ مِّنۡهُنَّ جُزۡءًا  ثُمَّ ادۡعُهُنَّ يَاۡتِيۡنَكَ سَعۡيًا‌ؕ  وَاعۡلَمۡ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ عَزِيۡزٌ حَكِيۡمٌؕ‏


Wa  iz  qaa-la  ib-ra-he-mo                                                                                                                   Rub-bay  aa-ray  nee  kai-fa  toh-yay  il-mao-taa                                                                          Qaa-la  aa  wa  laum  toe-min                                                                                                            Qaa-la  ba-laa  wa  laa-kin-na  lay  yaut-ma-in-na  qaul-bee                                                     Qaa-la  fa  khooz  ur-ba-aa-ta  um-may-na  ut-tai-ray                                                                  Fa  soor  hoon-na  aa-lai  ka                                                                                                                Thoom-ma  auj-aul  aa-laa  kool-lay  ja-ba-lin  min  hoon-na  jooz-aun                                  Thoom-ma  aud-o  hoon-na  yau-tee-na  ka  suy-yaun                                                              Wau-lum aun-na  ul-laa-ha  aa-zee-zoon  ha-keem

 

And when Abraham said                                                                                                      “My God, show me how You give life to the dead.”                                                          He (Allah) said, “And don’t you believe?”
He (Abraham) said, ‘Yes, but to comfort of my mind.”                                                 He (Allah) said, “Then take four birds.                                                                           Then get them used to you.
“Then put each of them separately on as many hills.
“Then call them. They’ll come to you scurrying.                                                              “And know that Allah certainly is Mightiest, Wisest.”

  • كَيۡفَ — Kai-fa — How (= How about. How would it be, do or fare. What would it look. In what fashion, manner, method or in which way)

* Note 002:261a. The word الطَّيۡرِ means the birds that qualify according to   فَصُرۡهُنَّ اِلَيۡكَ and so can get tamed, attached and used to human beings. The qualification of being the fliers, flying creatures, living birds or soaring being that fly and float in air with wings spread is not essential since the flying vultures and bats can’t be tamed and or get used to humans.

The pigeons are warm-blooded egg-laying feathered flying creatures that fly with wings spread out. And the chicken and turkeys, though not flying and soaring beings, nevertheless fall in the ambit of this verse because of the words يَاۡتِيۡنَكَ سَعۡيًا   since ‘they will come to you hurrying, scurrying, swiftly and doing their utmost.’

That word   الطَّيۡرِ  in the verse 003:050 is translated as the spiritual flights of imaginations, ideas, thoughts or plans. But Man did know when Jesus son of Mary was born as to what would happen nineteen centuries later. The prophetic forecast came true when his followers invented flying and soaring things with wings spread out such as airplanes, missiles, satellites and drones fueled by sources of energy unknown to Man nineteen hundred years earlier.

 

** Note 002:261b. The simple straightforward translation of this section as given above is ‘Then get them used to you. Then place them apart on all (as many) hills’.  

The convoluted extrapolations by making additions such as ‘then slaughter them, cut them into pieces’ [Dr Al-Hilali and Dr Khan] and ‘cut their bodies to pieces’ and ‘scatter them over the mountain tops’ [NJ Dawood] are not palatable for the following reasons.

  1. Such translations are contrary to the Law of Nature since a physically dead person is not returned to physical life on earth again.
  2. No word in the original text provides any of the impugned extrapolations.
  3. The prior words فَصُرۡهُنَّ اِلَيۡكَ categorically negate any possibility of such extrapolations.
  4. The translations like ‘Put them each on a separate hill’ [Allamah Nooruddin] positively contradicts impugned extrapolations.

Wa  ul-laa-ho  laa  yauh-day  il-qao-mauz  zaa-lay-mee-n

 

Have you not looked at he who argued vainly with Abraham
Regarding his God since Allah had given him the Kingdom?

When Abraham said, “My God is He who gives life and brings death.”
He said, “I give life and I give death.” 

Abraham said, “Then surely Allah comes up
With the sun from the east
So you bring it up from the west.” 

Thus confounded was he who disbelieved.
And Allah guides not the wrongdoers.

Abraham was not an Idolater

Abraham was not an idolater

The Holy Qor-aan established that Abraham was not an idolater (002:136, 003:068, 006:162) and repeated that differently – 006:079/080. It conferred the title of Best Exemplars on two prophets (Abraham p.o.h and Mohammed s.a.w) and one nation – Abraham’s followers – 060:005. It is the most authentic source to show how Abraham prayed, professed and practiced – 002:125 to 137.

Abraham thanked for his birth and guidance (026:079 and food and water – 026:080. God honored him specially (002:131) and raised prophets in his progeny – 019:059, 029:028.

Abraham prayed. He prayed for the acceptance of his prayers, sacrifices and services – 002:128, 014:040/041, 019:049. He prayed for his parents and the believers – 014:042. He prayed for his father – 019:048, 026:087. He prayed to get children – 037:100/101. He prayed for his children – 002:129/130, 014:036 to 041. He prayed for his town’s residents – 002:127, 014:036. He prayed for a cure when sick – 026:081. He prayed for a good legacy – 026:085. He prayed for forgiveness in the Hereafter – 026:082/083. He prayed for his admittance in the Paradise – 026:086. He prayed all the time and was forever inclined to God – 002:136, 006:162.

Abraham observed the natural elements, sky, sun and stars and concluded that he must worship their Creator – 006:076 to 079, 037:089. He saw the birds placed on four peaks flutter hurriedly to him on his call and saw how God quickens the dead back to life – 002:261.

Abraham finished the assigned tasks – 002:125. He convincingly countered argument that a human being controls life or death – 002:259. He argued with his nation who decided to burn him alive but Allah rescued him – 029:025. He demonstrated willingness to sacrifice his son until God stopped him – 037:103 to 108. He thus ended the custom of human sacrifice. .

Abraham honorably received guests (051:032), when they brought him the good news (029:032) and when they told him of his getting a Knowledgeable Son – 015:054, 051:029. He surprised his wife with the news of her bearing a son despite old age – 011:070 to 077, 051:030.

Abraham set up good precedents to follow – 002:126, 002:128, 006:162. He built God’s Home on Earth – 002:128, 022:027 to 030. He got Scriptures 087:020. He smashed statutes he could – 021:059 and opposed his father and nation worshiping idol – 006:075, 019:043 to 048, 021:053/058, 026:071/077, 029:017, 037:086/087. He turned his entire focus to God – 006:080.

As a whole-heartedly submissive person to God, at peace with His will and pleasure and bowing in total devotion, dedication, obedience, surrender and subservience, Abraham was مُسۡلِم which is a derivative of the root  س ل م . But to translate his pursuits as a Moslem, in Islam (a believer in the Holy Qor-aan after Islam had come) is not right for the following reasons.
a. It defies the divine word since Torah and Bible came after Abraham – 003:066.
b. It belies the statement that Abraham was not a Jew or Christian – 003:068.
c. It runs against the grains of God’s question decrying the aforesaid claim – 002:141.
d. It runs against the logical sequence of events that occurred several centuries apart. He was not a Jew, Christian or a Moslem because all these religions came long after him.

2 Words of Emphasis used together multiply Effect

An Arabic ‘Word of Emphasis’ as obvious is a word that emphasizes its intended objective.  See ‘Arabic Grammar -103 Questions Answered.’  Such constructions aim at creating an extreme emphasis.

One unique feature of the Arabic language is to join together or place successively in the same one clause or verses “Two Words of Emphasis” with the same or very similar meanings. Used very frequently are اِنَّ , اَنّ , لَ and قَدۡ . The literal equivalents of them all in the English include ‘absolutely, categorically, certainly, clearly, definitely, doubtlessly, earnestly, indeed, in all seriousness, in all sincerity, obviously, really, positively, specifically, surely, truly or verily.’

Translating them literally as ‘certainly certainly or definitely definitely” is not the normal English. Translating them accurately in English is best when done as ‘most certainly’, ‘most definitely’, etc. Translating them like that is also appropriate as shown by the several following examples.

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنٰكُمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَوۡتِكُمۡ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَشۡكُرُوۡنَ‏

                 Thoom-ma-ba-uth-naa-koom-min-bau-day-mao-tay-koom-la-ul-la-koom-tush-ko-roo-n.

        Then We raised you  after your stupor so that you be grateful.

  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; subsequently; thereafter)
  • بَعَث — Ba-uth — Raised  (= Appointed; brought back to life; brought back to the land of living; reincarnated; resurrected; revived; set up)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                      002:003

ذٰ لِكَ الۡڪِتٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛۚۖ فِيۡهِۛۚ هُدًى لِّلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَۙؕ

Zaa-lay-ka  ul-kay-taa-bo  laa  rai-ba  fee  hay   ho-daun  lay  il  moot-ta-qee-n

This is the Book … No doubt … in it … Guidance for the Righteous

  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka … (ul) — This (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it was because; right here; such is this; that is how it is)
  • الۡڪِتٰبُ — Kay-taa-bo — The Book (= n., s., 1. The Decreed part of a religion. The Divine   Directive of Commandments, Prohibitions, Rules and Regulations. The Holy Scriptures. The Perfect Bok. The Testament that holds good and is operative eternally.  The Spiritual Code codifying the rules of universal application.  2. The Collection of mandated, ordered,  prescribed, preserved, recorded or written do’s and don’ts.  3. Authentic penned down material in black and white)

  •  لَا– Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation)
  • رَيۡبَۛ — Rai-ba — Doubt (= n., Absence of faith. Dubious. Dubitable. Element of dispute. Grey area. Inadequacy. Incomplete. Open to suspicion. Something lacking or missing. Uncertainty. Unclear)
  • فِىۡ  — Fee — In (= Contained in or amidst a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation; inside. Also, concerning; for the sake of;’ in reference to; pursuant to; regarding; relative to. See Note 002:028)
  • هِۛ — Hay — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref is to the Book, the Direction)
  • هُدًى– Ho-daun … (lay) — Guidance (= n., The action, direction, instruction, means, measure,  method, pointer or set up showing the best beacon, correct course, enlightened entry, linear lines, proper path, right road, wise ways or the knowledge about what is the best. The criteria judging things appropriately.  The way of life that the Creator chose for all He created. See Commentary Islam – 101)
  • لِّ — Lay … (il) — F or  (= For benefiting those who are, intend, pursue or try to be)
  • لۡمُتَّقِيۡنَۙؕ — Il-moot-ta-qee-n — The righteous (= n., pl., Those who avoid angering Allah, become God-fearing, pious and righteous, clean their inner self, do duty to God, guard against and ward off evil’. See Commentary The Righteous for more meanings) 

 

* Note 002:003. Our Commentary Punctuations and Vowels shows how disregarding a punctuation alters the essence, message and result of a written communication.   To understand a message it is essential to abide by a punctuation indicating where to pause.   The two clauses ‘No doubt’ and ‘In it’ in this verse have punctuations for specific purposes.   It is imperative to know the effect of such punctuations for anyone who translates a scripture.   All translators, interpreters or extrapolators must follow them to translate the verse correctly.   Connecting such punctuations with antecedent clause or precedent clause changes meanings.   How big can the difference be is best illustrated by taking the same words in two sentences.   Relocating the coma in Stop, not let go and Stop not, let go produces the opposite meanings.   Moving the coma ahead one word and reading it by pausing there makes a huge difference.   It would be okay if it stays at a scholarly difference but that is not shown in Moslem history.   Conflicts don’t arise if the Holy Qor-aan is read correctly by following the punctuations.  See The Holy Qor-aan and Different Translations.

Arabic Grammar 3

2 Pronouns referring to the same person when combined create extreme emphasis And the same effect when one Pro & 1 Verb are joined together

 

The English grammar does not recognize a sentence combining the equivalent of two pronouns together. A construction like ‘He boy came’ or ‘She girl went’ is not acceptable in English – leave alone to use such an expression for creating an emphasis. Oddities like this make translating a foreign work difficult.

But the Arabic language has the unique feature to create extreme emphasis in following two ways.
1. Placing together two pronouns successively. Examples: كَ and اَنۡتَ  002:033) has an exact equivalent in English by saying ‘You and Only You.‘ And اِنَّهٗ هُوَ (= inna-hoo-ho-wa) (002:038) has an exact equivalent in English by saying ‘He and Only He.’
2. Placing after a pronoun a verb with one of its several variations that practically duplicates the prior pronoun. Examples: اَنۡتُم تَتۡلُوۡنَ (un-toom-tut-loona) (002:045) will in English be ‘You are the very people who read it.’ And اَنۡتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ (un-toom-tau-la-moon) (002:023 and 002:043) will in English be “You are the very people who know full well.”

Following and many other examples in the Holy Qor-aan illustrate the above uniqueness of Arabic.

Thus اِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ الۡمُفۡسِدُوۡنَ (inna-hoom-ho-mool) means ‘Surely these very people are’ – as described – ‘the evil-doers, corrupters; corruption creators; disruption developers; law-breakers; mischief mongers; spreaders of bad and evil.’

pronouns coming one after the other and referring to one
addressee in 2nd person are intended to lay extreme emphasis
and so the translation herein is ‘You and only You’)

o The first word اِنَّ (= inna) means “Absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily.”
o The second word كَ (= ka) is a pronoun (= pro., s., m., addressee in 2nd person) that refers to you.
o The third word اَنۡتَ (= unta) is also a pronoun (= s., m., addressee in 2nd person) that refers to you.
o A phrase duplicating two pronouns like كَ and اَنۡتَ lays a tremendous emphasis on the person highlighted. Thus إِنَّكَ أَنتَ (= inna-ka-unta) means “You the One and the Only One and no one else like You” qualifies for the adjectives that follow this phrase.

o The first word هُمۡ (= hoom) is a pronoun that refers to ‘all those’ in masculine gender.
o The second word يُوۡقِنُوۡنَ (=Yoo-qe-noon) is a verb showing the act ‘of bearing an absolute conviction’ done by ‘them all’ (= pro., pl., m., addressees in 3rd person).
o When a pronoun points to a person, and is followed by a verb which with one of its 14 variations refers to an action by that person, the two-worded phrase so created lays an extreme emphasis on the stated action. Thus the phrase هُمۡ يُوۡقِنُوۡنَ (hoom-yoque-noon) means ‘They really are the people with a wholesome conviction without any shadow of doubt‘.

Qor-aan, The Most Read Book

The Holy Qor-aan – The Most Read Book In The World

  1. The revelation of the Holy Qor-aan was started with “Read with the name of your God” (096:002) to benefit the whole mankind. Teaching “with the pen” and the prayer “add to my knowledge” (020:115) foretold the future about to unfold. The reading and writing accelerated multiplying knowledge exponentially. It doubled all prior human knowledge every 25 years.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan for the last 1500 years has been read in almost every country by a large majority of Moslems at least once in their lifetimes. Millions in the last 15 centuries committed the whole of it to their memory and recited all of it every week. 1.7 billion Moslems in the world today are taught since childhood to read some part of it daily, and many of them do that.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan has been translated wholly in several languages and in parts in almost every language spoken on the globe. Records, cassettes, audios, videos and electronic devices play its reading and recitation daily in almost every country. Billions of teachers and students have discussed and dissected its teachings in mudrassas, schools and Universities in the world.
  1. In Trillions of disputes, cases and controversies the judges and jurists, and in academic situation the academia and critics, have interpreted and extrapolated its Commandments and Prohibitions in all kinds of legal and social issues, spiritual and temporal environments, personal and familial matters. That fact alone makes the Holy Qor-aan the most read Book in the world.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan illustrates from the natural phenomenon around us that God Almighty created them for a purpose and not in vain (003:192), providing rules of universal application to benefit and not harm man. Sun shines and warms; light travels in straight line; gravity pulls; and all of us whether believers or not are bound to abide by and subject to live with those realities.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan guides all people (014:002), teaches all that is best for mankind, and resolves all situations (017:090) for all times in the past, present and future. It gives the factual account of historical events and exhorts man to learn from them for history always repeats itself.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan describes the precedents of those gone by (002:141). It prepares man today to benefit from the best and avoid all the rest. It enumerates every element of humanism in man’s personal, familial and social life. It repeats teachings and historical narrations in different scenarios lighting them up from all sides as if under the floodlights from several angles.
  1. The Holy Qor-aan is the vehicle. God Almighty has set man for a ride on his evolution trajectory where he will eventually reach as destined. It is in Arabic language (041:004) where some words have 20 different meanings. Man is endowed with the ease to learn it (054:018). He has the flexibility to interpret reasonably, but not to exceed that inappropriately (054:004).
  1. The Holy Qor-aan states the truth but empowers man to make choices and equips him with the intellect to draw conclusions for himself and evolve the right road for his human village. History shows total failure of those succumbing to absurdities, falsehoods or poor judgments, or attempting to limit, twist or circumvent its teachings to any locality, community or timeframe.
